My county in MD does the contacting – through email & texts – more so through email. My DH & I were able to get the same time slot next Thursday for vaccine #1, and we were only offered Moderna. I guess that’s the only type left at the close location we will be going to. We could cancel and wait for another type vaccine to be stocked, but it took so long – since early February! – to get an actual appointment, we’re keeping this appointment.👍🏻🙌🏻

Another game is over and I feel good. Wanted to say hello earlier, but got blindsided when I received an e-mail for hubby that he has been scheduled for the Moderna vaccine on the 10th. So far there has been nothing for me, but it could be that he will be first and I will probably follow a few days to a week later. Meanwhile I have been reading and hearing that some offshoots of this virus are making it’s way from State to State. I think there are 27 States affected thus far with many hospitalizations. To say I am concerned is not an exaggeration. To say I’m scared is a great concern. The one thing that makes me stop and think is what I will be facing in every hotel room, in every restaurant in every State that I go through until I reach our destination. Having been sick last year at this time I do not relish the idea of being unwell in a State I’m not familiar with and in a Hotel/Motel that is faraway from Florida and one that is not near our destination. Those thoughts really haunt me. Hubby’s second vaccine is scheduled for May 8th. Our doctor appointment is that same week, and of this day not sure if I will have to change that date to another to accommodate my second shot. Only time will tell. I am saying this because you are facing the same obstacles. Only your trip can be done in one day and will not affect you except for the prospect of being tired and to lay your head down somewhere to rest and then to have the family reunion that you have longed for for a very long time. The answer to this is not an easy one and I am not one to jump into something so easily.

We saw some new faces again this evening. I think everyone had a great time even though most of the evening pertained to our spring training question. At least one was new and gave us hope for something different next week.

The e-mail for hubby also included dos and don’ts prior to the vaccine. Also we have to complete some medical forms prior. Though the forms will be at the site, they have asked that we complete them prior since we may not have all the time needed to complete them. Since the area where we have to go is new, we will make a dry run Easter Sunday. I have a pretty good idea of the location, but will either use TomTom to get us there or the one my cousin used for Florida.

Pfizer was one of the vaccines I was looking at. However, when I heard that many had side effects, then looked at Johnson. Johnson is good but not that effective when compared to the other two. So that made us look at the Moderna and from what I’ve read is the lesser of the evils. There are side effects, but not as bad as Pfizer. Besides Moderna has had some results with a few of the offshoots which look pretty good. The only thing I am questioning is how long the immune system will work against this virus. Some say six months, while others say maybe years. Looks like we will be looking at a booster starting in the fall. The booster will determine the return trip, if there is one. Funny, once we are vaccinated we can go out and about, travel, etc.. But no one has mentioned any overnight stays at motels/hotels. That, of course, is my main concern.
