On his way to make history. This photograph by Afshin Shahidi shows Prince on his way to rehearsals for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in March 2004. That night, Prince would be inducted and shine during an all-star performance of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
“I talked him into walking there,” Afshin Shahidi remembers. “It was a beautiful New York day. I don’t think people were able to compute the fact that it was Prince walking by them—they just felt someone special was nearby.”
“While My Guitar Gently Weeps” was performed in tribute to George Harrison, and George’s son Dhani joined a band led by Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Steve Winwood. Prince stepped forward halfway through to deliver 3 full minutes of virtuosic guitar bliss.

Today hiked with my husband, but he didn’t want to do a hard trail so I had to double down and go in the late afternoon with a friend.

I loved the Broadway hits last night. I enjoyed everything……”Memories,” “Tonight, Tonight” ” I Could Have Danced All Night,” “I Feel Pretty, All So Pretty.” “People.” Loved it all.

I used to think like you. Wouldn’t it be nice to live in NYC and have Broadway at your fingertips. Being two hours away by car or train was not enough. That is, until one day hubby and I decided to bus it with a group for a day to do your own thing. When we emerged from the bus, the smells were not like anything we had before. It was raunchy. It was awful. This was December and the garbage was piled a mile high or so it seemed. We made our way towards the subways to head to Chinatown and Little Italy our favorite places. Made it off the subway and walked what seemed like miles to the two flights of stairs and up to fresh air, or so we thought. However, the odors and scents changed as we walked up Canal. Fresh fish permeated the air. There were people trying to sell Gucci bags, Rolex watches, etc. though you knew they were fakes. However it was freezing outside and so we made it to a restaurant and ordered tea.
Later on we stopped for Congee with fish. Wait staff couldn’t believe that we knew what Congee was. It’s a staple in the Orient and is their oatmeal. But, it is made with rice and they add pork, chicken, fish, nuts and spices into the middle of the bowl. Sorry, one choice with nuts. This is something I look forward to when we cruise. Except last year, the taste was awful. Had to be the Covid. Long story short, no, to living in NYC not for us. Rather visit for a day or so.
More fun. More excitement trying to get as much in as we can. Then when we get home, breathe cleaner air.
