Is it really possible to get 25,000 points in this game? I just don’t see how.
hin, hon, hun, sic, eon, ore, roe,and fie!!
I wish I could get the game to load.
It’s really possible. I posted this in another thread a couple of days ago. I didn’t realize that it was in the Talk Among Youselves topic. Reposting here:
I play this game almost every day, and it will usually take me several levels (10 or more) to get to 25,000.
1 – get to the next level. Do this by meeting the Goal by removing rows or columns of letters. If you don’t get to the next level, the game ends, so if you don’t have 25000 yet, oh well. Bombs can clear up to a 3×3 square of letters, so use them if you’re stuck or running out of time.
2 – once you met the Goal for the level, try to clear the entire board. If you clear the board, your score for the level is doubled! The best way to do this is by making words to completely clear the board. If you cannot, you can use a bomb. But use the bombs wisely. I won’t bother clearing the board if I need to use more than 2 bombs, because I’ll need the bombs for later levels. It’s more important to get to the next level, (see priority 1).
I don’t think the levels get more difficult as you go letter-wise, but you have to clear more rows or columns to meet the Goal, and at some point you get start getting less time per level. So it’s good to keep some bombs, because you might need them to clear some rows or columns to meet the Goal.
Some other tips:
– if you have 3 or more identical letters together, you can clear them as if they were a word.
– the game has a large lexicon, so if you’re desperate try some “words” you’ve never heard of.
– when the level starts, I’ll look for Q, X, Z, K, J, and other letters that may have limited options, and strategize to get letters near them that will make a word (QIS and QUA work)
Hope this helps. Now everyone should understand why Word-Wipe players have been asking for more tickets for this game!
I have always been an excellent speller and love this game. I’m fairly new to it and am still learning how to play it for the best score. However, when I saw it was the GOTW and the score that had to be beat was over 25K for a chance to win, I was very frustrated! I have been trying all the tips I can find on the internet, and still haven’t been able to reach the 25K, yet. You have to move VERY fast and use the bombs to double your score each round (or later rounds) for a chance at anything close to 25K. I’m usually wanting to spell the longest words, but that just eats up time (and I have found that you don’t seem to get THAT many extra points for bigger words). I get very close to using the bombs (have only been successful a couple times so far), but my time runs out right when I’m ready to use them (I also don’t always hear the timer ticking down). I finally just cleared 11 lines, but my score still didn’t make it. Anyway, I’m sure it will just take practice and experience, and learning the strategies that work for me. For example, Boodlemum mentioned that she didn’t think the levels (or rounds) get harder, but I read elsewhere that they do. I seem to think that’s true, because in the lower rounds, potential words are easier to spot (either in a 4-letter block or obviously spelled out on the board). She also mentioned that your time per level decreases the higher you get, and I wasn’t aware of that! I’m also still trying to figure out exactly how the bombs work ~ how many per round, etc. I know once you clear the required number of columns/rows per round with time left, you get extra bombs. I’ve read that you should try to save them for later rounds, but I haven’t noticed that they carry over. I also play on an iPad, and even though I am used to the touch screen now over a mouse, I am wondering if it is somewhat slower (especially when sometimes the letters get “hung up” trying to spell a word). Again, I have found that you mainly have to be focused and fast.
Anyway, thanks to those who have shared tips, because not many people seem willing to help out! Another bummer is that there isn’t an option to use points towards entries this week in the “Rewards Store” ~ wonder why that is? I haven’t checked the rest of the topics, yet, to see if this has been addressed. We don’t have many options of what to spend our points on, so it stinks if HSN is taking that away, as well… 😕
I also think 25000 is a high score for this game, but I’m happy that they have FINALLY chosen a word game for GOTW.
While I enjoy finding a long word, most of the words I make are only 3 or 4 letters. I probably use HIE twice or more per round! The timer is at 2 minutes until level 11 when it starts dropping by 10 seconds each level. I agree that it’s frustrating to run out of time, especially just as you’re about to use a bomb.
I don’t know how the word-scoring works.
After you meet the Goal, there’s a progress bar that fills as you make words, and I think it’s related to scores you make. When the bar fills up, that’s when you get a bomb. The bombs do carry over.
You said something about the letters hanging up. I noticed that there’s one letter in the bottom right area that has to be hit just right, but other than that I haven’t had a problem.
Except when the entire game freezes, which hasn’t happened this week that I’ve noticed.
Hi again! I, too, agree that it was great to see a Word game as the GOTW for a change ~ Angela (or whomever is in charge of selecting the games) seems to pick the same several games over and over (especially the Mahjonggs, Sudoku, Trizzle – 🙂, Bubble Boo – ugh, Landing Party – ugh, Kritter Krawler – ugh again, etc.). There are really SO many games available ~ it would be nice to see a more varied rotation (or maybe the most-played games). I see this week is Mahjongg Candy ~ with a score to beat of 120K! That seems kind of high ~ but I rarely play that game. Looking at the Leaderboard, many players have already exceeded that score. I wonder if Angela really gets some of the scores she posts! Most weeks her scores are average (or very low), so now all of a sudden she’s had two very high scores back-to-back! Hopefully HSN will add the alternative entry option back in the Rewards Store. I sent a message to Angela about that. Anyway, back to Word Wipe, how long have you been playing it? Even though I am tempted to try to spell long words, I, too, usually just spell 3-4 letter words first to clear the required rows and columns. I use Hie, a lot, too (along with Hue, Vie, etc.) ~ many of the same over and over. Which is another frustrating thing about the game. I know the main objective is to clear the boards as fast as possible, but it would be much better if a player was rewarded more for longer words and not using the same words over and over ~ that’s not a very good challenge. Thanks for the info about the bombs carrying over ~ I’d still like to know how many you can get each round. It’s difficult to pay attention to the info on the left side when you’re trying to focus on spelling words quickly and clearing the board! However, it’s still one of my faves, and now I have a new goal to obtain with it!! Maybe I’ll be better next time it’s the GOTW!! 😁
PS ~ OOPS! I meant Shannon ~ not Angela (for GOTW scores). I contacted Angela about the Rewards Store entries. Also ~ where’d the edit option go? 🤔
Thank you appreciate your input.
