FRIDAY NIGHT TRIVIA, APRIL 3, 2020

  • OODIEBOM
  • 04.03.20 11:41 PM

No April Fool’s here. It’s Friday Night. You all know what that means. TRIVIA TIME!! Good Evening Everyone. Hopefully, we are all well and if not, on the mend. For some you have been glued to the TV and for others looking for something to do other than the news. Well, tonight we will have conversation and maybe for a couple of hours get our minds set to having some fun. For the newcomers, the questions can be found in the Rewards Store within the Arcade. Questions begin between 8 pm and 8:05 pm EST. depending upon your computer clock. There are six questions during the game. The last question is posted between 10:30 pm and 10:35 pm EST. Again, depending upon your computer clock. Each question lasts approximately 30 minutes, so you will need to come up with the correct response within that time frame. If you answer incorrectly, you will see a red “OOPS.” The incorrect response will not count against you unless the time is up. Each correct answer is worth 200 tickets to use in the Rewards Store against the Featured or Current Sweepstakes. So, before you tear your hair out, before you give up, just return to this thread where one or more of us will be able to help. Also, join us in light conversation, ideas or whatever and LET THE FUN BEGIN….:)

    Good night everyone, so good to see all here. Be safe, YouTube has lots OS ways to make a mask. Please ware one as you go out of your home. One cup of water plus one tablespoon of bleach, you can soak paper towels to wipe things down and off such as items from the store. But can be only used the same day and not good for the next day.
    Be safe, take care.

    Part 3…and I’ll try and finish the rant.

    We have no vaccine and essentially no immunity to this virus SO…social distance. WASH your hands. And, wear a mask. Stats indicate that 25-50% of those that are infected are asymptomatic (NO symptoms) but are STILL contagious. A mask helps protect you from me and it works the other way around. Make one and wear it when you go out…ya, I’m pleading! Please look at Masks4All dot co There is a lot of information!

    My wonderful, wonderful niece manages an ICU in the San Diego area and the stories are awful…really sad and awful. Young, old, it doesn’t matter.

    So now that I’ve depressed everyone…I’ll . Unless it is to say, listen into hear Chris Cuomo of CNN that is in his basement and has been battling this virus this week. I would rather not go through that!

      • OODIEBOM
      • 04.04.20 3:16 AM

      @pipman

      I’ve been listening to Gov. Cuomo and his brother. I have a story. About a month ago I was preparing for a two week cruise. Hubby and I were hoping that the trip would be cancelled. We were scared to death to travel. We made arrangements months prior to stay at a motel not far from the airport parking where we would be leaving our vehicle. The trip was not cancelled and so reluctantly we left. We stopped for dinner and went on our way. Our hotel room was icy cold because the overhead air conditioner was left on really low. The room had a strange smell. It took a few minutes to locate the remote to turn the air off. There was an overhead fan over the bed that was turned on high. No pulley to turn it off. I tried all the switches in the room to no avail. We were dog tired and so did not return to the lobby to ask for another room. When I awoke the next morning my throat was quite sore. I had Manuka honey in my overnight bag and brought it with me for breakfast. I took a quarter of teaspoon of Manuka with hot tea. We returned to our room following breakfast and checked the room to make sure we had everything and left. By the time we finally found our parking area the sore throat was gone. We had a free shuttle to the ship. The embarkation went smoothly. We only had to answer a questionnaire and for security to check our passports. We were in a short line for the last part where we got our room keys, etc.. We had lunch and then went through the normal procedures for using for life jacket. After dinner we unpacked all but the large bag. We were both exhausted. During the night I had chills like I never had before and sweated from top to toe. I thought I would die. Had no idea what I had. I was tempted to see the ship’s doctor, but was afraid he would make us repack and send us home by air. As soon as I was able I put a “do not disturb” on the door. I felt awful. Not seasick. Just felt sick. We both went to breakfast and then went back to our room. The coughing soon started. I had Manuka lozengers that didn’t hit. The cough was dry. I decided to try my sinus meds along with Benedryl. It helped somewhat. Had another night of sweats. The next day hubby started with an awful, deep, foghorn cough. We decided to eat all meals at the buffet instead of the dining room. We ate all meals about a half hour before closing for the next meal. We were the only ones there. We were sick the two weeks. Our car never looked so good when they picked us up. They even offered to put our luggage into the car. We said we would handle it. We are now over the hump. However, we tire easily. My energy level is just starting to return. And tomorrow I will start fumigating our entire home. I had just cleaned most closets and cabinets. Now we will start again. Did we have the virus. I do not know. There is no way to find out. There are no tests here for that purpose. So, that being said we are very careful. We were very careful on the trip as well. For the most part we stayed in our cabin and also sat on the chairs outside. Thank goodness for our sinus meds and Excedrin. They helped us through the tough times.

      The thought had occurred to me when you mentioned you and your husband did not feel well on the cruise. I am glad that you’re at home and in control of your environment now (as much as anyone can be these days). If you had it, that means your body has built an immunity to it for this season anyway. Stay safe, and prayers for you both. ❤️

      • 04.04.20 3:45 AM

      Thanks RosaTowwen. Your sentiments are much appreciated.

      My heart really goes out to you and your fellow flight-mates. I found some masks this week in a cupboard when I remembered that my husband wore them to Disneyland on occasion (we had annual passes) when he was recovering from one of his cancer bouts. He lost that battle after three separate occurrences over 8 years, so I know that you had it rough even before you lost Dennis.
      I just want you to know that you are being heard and that you matter. My thoughts and best wishes go out to you.

      @Pipmam, I too get stuck to the TV , CNN. It’s bad, never did we think this could happen here on US soil. Be safe.

      @xango,

      I did watch Chris and my heart went out to his wife and children. I am in medical treatments

      @xango And you as well! Good thing I love just being home and away from people! My flying tomorrow cancelled (and doubt that they can create anything for me), so won’t have to worry about it again till next Saturday. Yay!

    Well, it is that time again when all good things come to an end. The evening was fun and “it seemed like we just got started and now it’s time to say goodnight.” These words were often said by Carol Burnett. I hope each and every one of you and all those who read this thread have a wonderful week and remain in good health. This thread will remain opened all week in order to say Hi, voice concerns or whatever. Until next week, enjoy your friends and family, read a good book, do jigsaws or whatever hobbies you have. This is a good time to think of the good and not the bad. Until next week. Good night. May you all have pleasant dreams.

    • 04.04.20 2:38 AM

    Part 2…

    So now, the entire world has fallen apart! My big beef is that I don’t understand why people are still getting on airplanes or WHY we are even operating. Daily the carriers are hauling ten’s of thousands around the country (and yes, still internationally to Europe, Asia, Canada and Latin America). My company just announced that we normally carry about (ready) 600,000 on a Saturday but tomorrow we only have reservations for 36,000! WHY these people are flying around in a pressurized tin tube with the virus floating around on asymptomatic people is incredible. And to add to it, we are losing $60 MILLION A DAY! Thinking that the $50 billion dollar gravy train isn’t going to go very far for the industry.

    All that said, I am scared to death now to be on an aircraft and am considering a leave of absence. The company won’t revel any details but we know that there was a ground agent that has died and that there are multiple flight attendants around our system that are either home on 14 day quarantine, sick…or worse, hospitalized. It’s bad.

      • OODIEBOM
      • 04.04.20 2:50 AM

      @pipman

      I have said the same thing. I live in a community and why people are flying home or driving thousands of miles is beyond me. I have absolutely refused to fly North or drive North at this time. Many hotels are closed. Those that aren’t leave keys somewhere for their customers because the lobbies are closed. Getting food is a problem with the take outs refusing to deliver to either the motels/or hotels. Many of the hotels have stopped making breakfasts and having coffee, tea or hot water at your fingertips. I cannot believe that the airlines have not closed down all together. Why we do not have one set of rules and regulations for all States is beyond me. Yes, this is scary. Yes, I dread doing the necessary grocery shopping once every two or three weeks. But, the one thing that keeps me going is the light I see on line from people posting. It makes every day a bit easier knowing others are going through and feeling the same as you. We are all in this together and together we will get through this one day at a time.

      • pipman
      • 04.04.20 2:59 AM

      @oodiebom I’ve been causally asking “WHY are you people here???” 99% of what I am getting back is…cheap fare! Sheesh. And the hotels…for our crews have been a huge problem. Just like you said, no food and no coffee. The company has really had to scramble to get hotels to have box breakfasts / lunches for crews to pick up.

      On board service has been reduced to a small bottle of water, 2 snacks, a napkin and a Purell wipe…now in a plastic bag. Shortly, those bags will be given to people when they board, to attempt to keep us from virtually touching people. There is no food, no liquor, no sodas, no coffee/tea…

    I had to run into the desktop machine because I wanted to post a rant!

    SO…I think some would remember that I’ve had “2” jobs since my partner Dennis passed away in July of 2017 from cancer. I ended up with a business that we bought in 1993 and it was a never ending excavation process since he died. I had been about 6 days a week between it and my “real” job. Now that the business is closed (but the financial disaster is no where done) I was actually set to work more at my real job.

    I’ve never blabbed but that job (that was my dream job since I was in 7th grade) is that I am a Flight Attendant…33.5 years at my carrier (flew before that for 3 years, went to a carrier that was then bought in the 1980’s). I’ve always been in Los Angeles and since my Mom came to live with us, have only done one day (out and back or as we call it a “turn” or turn around) since 2011…no layovers, no international. Now that it’s just me, I still just want to come home to my own bed! 🙂

      ddshoppy Tell her to be safe! I grew up in Portland and was crushed to be rejected by Alaska back in about 1981. LOL Alaska has always had a great reputation.

      • 04.04.20 2:35 AM

      @pipman,

      You have been through a lot. I do remember when both your partner and mom passed.
      You stay strong. Most of all stay safe. ❤

      • pipman
      • 04.04.20 2:52 AM

      @sheba2011 I’m trying! Friends ask me how I have not had a mental breakdown over all of this…not sure of the answer but seems that there has never been time to even consider that, as my hands have been full.

      As I said, I really need to look into the variety of leaves that are now being offered (and man, there are a ton of them…1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 12 month leaves. Already something like 9,000 flight attendants have put in for them and there will be more. I take this that the company does not expect a recovery for a VERY long time).

      Hey Sheba2011! I signed some more papers on the house today, so it should close by Monday. It is difficult to believe that I ran to the hospital on April 20th last year when I got the call that she had cancer. Doesn’t seem possible.

      • Sheba2011

      Good luck with the closing. I know all too well about cancer.

    There is one more person I haven’t seen here in some time. Victor was taking care of her husband who was ill. Though the medication he was on was helping, he could not tolerate it. Have not seen or heard from her since the meds were stopped. Has anyone seen her post????
