We've Lost A TRUE Fashion Icon
Iris Apfel, the influential fashion icon and interior decorator who helped restore the White House for nine presidents, died Friday at the age of 102.
Talent agent Lori Sale confirmed her death. Apfel died at home in Palm Beach
Apfel’s Instagram account posted an image of a stunningly dressed Apfel and the words “August 29, 1921 — March 1, 2024.”
In 2018, at age 96, Apfel appeared on “TODAY” to talk about recent trends and what constitutes style. She was interviewed at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.
She called ripped denim “insanity” and criticized those who wear athletic clothes for everyday activities, saying, “Athletic wear should be worn at the gym.”
She said those with style are expressive and self-aware.
“You have to be original, but not original to the point where you’re nutsy,” Apfel said. “I think you have to be true to yourself, know yourself, not be a trend follower. You’ve got to take a few risks.”
Apfel was born in 1921 in Astoria, Queens, on Aug. 29, 1921.
As a girl, she was fascinated by her grandmother’s scraps of unused fabric. “What I saw made my eyes pop: a gigantic bunch of little fabric remnants in all sorts of colors and patterns,” she wrote in her 2018 book, “Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon.”

I love my jeans so even if I disagree with her on that … I really respected her fashion savvy.
Also she opened up the lead for other women in the fashion world .

@iamashortdiva,
Thank you for the news.
What an original, one of kind woman she was ! I’ve known her since 1990 when she and her husband were running Old World Weavers at D&D in New York. They were both iconic and unique love birds. Many designers and decorators including myself, inspired by their knowledge and talent in both fashion and home decor. I own her embroidery coat and few other things from HSN including the book. I truly will miss her. Yes, she not only the most fashionable diva in the industry, the lady was sharp and smart but most of all she was funny. Rest in peace Iris Apfel, I know you are with Carl. RIP, Beautiful!

I was just watching her newest ad where she states, “You need to start at the bottom. You start with the rug and go from there.” She was and always will be a lovely and colorful person. I, like so many others, will miss her fashions. She was the “fashionista” pioneer. RIP Iris.

She was amazing. Smart, stylish, sassy. She and her husband were true life partners, yet she was able to continue living a full life after losing him. She gave great advice, like plastic surgery at 72 will not fool people into thinking you’re 27. She wanted all women to be comfortable in their own skin and have an individual sense of style. A wonderful role model who was inspirational for so many. Rest in peace, dear Lady Iris.

Sorry, I received a reply stating that I had a duplicate post. When I checked, there was nothing there. Oh well, two posts are better than none I suppose. Wish there was a way to delete…….

Iris was a true inspiration of a life well lived. She never stopped working. I have a top of hers, owl sheets, necklaces, bangle, Barbie dolls, an owl tote bag.
She was so entertaining.
I always looked forward to watching when she was on. May her memory be for a blessing
