Frumpy old lady clothes
What’s with all the frumpy old lady clothes on HSN? I’m in my 50’s and if it wasn’t for Skinny Girl and G by Giuliana, there would be nothing hip and stylish for me to buy. How about getting some younger, fresh designers. Also, higher quality clothing.
-
Since frumpy QVC bought HSN the day oh HSN being fashion forward are gone. Probably never to return.
-
I agree. The clothes are turning into bland frumpy clothes for women who never want to be seen in public. Also they have no variation in the size of the models. All of them have the same body type. I have been with HSN them from the very beginning but Its pretty obvious they are saving QVC and taking HSN customer base and thinking they can force it into QVC . Its for a certain kind of consumer and petites they are getting rid of all the designers who carry petite lines I know I can trust. I am not wasting my time trying to order from some of these new designers. It was so hard finding petite clothing that fit. The models are all new because I was familiar with the fashion models and even some of the hosts sizing I had a good idea how clothes hung on different body types. and ordered accordingly. I don’t have the time to experiment with ordering.
-
totally agree…
-
-
This almost 85 year old has noticed this also. Too bad.
-
Oh please don’t get me started HSN had some really great designers through out the years my favorite was Randolph Duke. They have not had a decent designer since Hal Rubinstein.
-
I agree. I noticed they show more of Coleen L’s clothes. They are beyond FRUMPY. I noted in another string, they remind me of the Jaclyn Smith line sold at Kmart. Just hideous.
-
I saw photos of Iman this morning in Italy with a very pretty green and white maxi dress. I’m sure she would have copied it for her old HSN customers. I miss her items.
-
I miss Iman so very much. Hope she is enjoying her new life without HSN. She deserves all the best.
-
I miss Iman too but if I was her age & worth over $100 million I’d be chillin’ too.

Hi kaykay, she was in Italy receiving a humanitarian award yesterday. Congrats to her! I think we all must understand that yes, she is a business woman but also a humanitarian and first of all a mother. With all that on her plate I will certainly say “take as long as you need to design a fabulous new line of fashion, if it takes a year then it takes a year” Kudos to her for a lifetime of compassion and giving. I think it’s something we should all strive for.

It’s like a swap meet. What happened to Hal Rubenstein, Naeem Khan??
-
I agree. Khan has dressed famous women around the world and HSN let him go? Randolf Duke and Hal Rubenstein was also mentioned, they are gentlemen who now how to dress real women. I like the latest trends too but classics never go out of style. We all don’t wear leisure clothes, jersey knits, short sleeves and pull on pants. I like good slacks, nice dresses, well lined blazers, pretty blouses , etc.

Most of Everything Sold on HSN is ‘MADE IN CHINA’ …. same as Shopping at WALMART …. the Jewelry selections at HSN are GARBAGE !!!! Diane Gilman Fat Hag Jeans …. 8 Times per Month !!! HSN is Falling Apart …. Just like the Hosts are Running Away !!!
-
While I agree with your clothing assessment I must disagree with your jewelry remark. Heidi Daus has very, very high end gorgeous one of a kind pieces and Carol Brodie is always on trend with her unique, stunning collections! I no longer watch HSN except to see Heidi and Carol’s presentations. I always order online.
-
Heidi’s jewelry is something you really like or don’t. Not everyone likes her type of jewelry, for me it is too gaudy, not all pieces though, and from what I have read her pieces are beautifully made.
There are a lot on Ebay. She has a ton of fans so I don’t think she will be going anywhere. I agree the clothes, which I haven’t bought in decades are way too old fashioned and flowery. -
I agree with you about Heidi’s jewelry. People seem to love it or not. I’m on the not side. It reminds me of what all the senior ladies wear to church every Sunday. I prefer less frill and more natural look of real stones. But the great thing is both are offered to all on HSN. So, buy what you love!
-
Joan Boyce has great jewelry! Total quality & a great warranty. I don’t get Carol Brodie’s line. To each his own.
-
Snow collector, Heidi’s Jewelry. Does it have real stones ? What are they made of ? Crystals or rhinestones? Just curious also the metal or does she use plastic? I have never ordered. Also the settings for her stones, I have seen costume jewelry that has impeccable settings for lucite stones from the 60s and 70s that look real. Can you explain her line on another thread
-
I think Diane makes a great jean. You might need to size down but agreed she’s on too much becasue there’s no one else.

Hi andy1977😃 Over the last 15+ yrs, I’ve a CLOSET FULL (50+ AT LEAST!) of DG2… BUT FROM YESTERYEAR! Lol. But, what about TRUE P/XS – 00 sizes? NOTHING FOR US TO SIZE DOWN TO! AND, I’m 52… YET VERY PETITE. The newer STRETCHY fabrics ARE JUST TOO BIG (for me). AND I REALLY LUUUUVVVV SOME OF HER STYLES AND WOULD LIKE TO BUY, too. But… I ‘AM’ HAPPY FOR THOSE WHO DO GET TO SIZE DOWN! As a woman, THAT MUST FEEL AWESOME TO DO-AND-HAVE FIT WELL! Yaaaay for ALL OF YOU…👍😃💛

Delray Law,
I wish I had your problem! LOL!

Oh my gosh ladies, I just typed in to the web browser ‘where is Hal Rubenstein?’ and up popped your conversation! I couldn’t agree more with all you are saying I hardly buy anything at HSN anymore. Not only are the styles bad, the quality and fabrics are just, well not my cup of tea. Maybe the old CEO will start another place for us to find decent clothes at decent prices. I used to buy staples at QVC, but their stuff has gone down hill as well. Its been back to brick and mortar for me. I mean how many t shirts and polyester lounge pants can one person have? I want to try harder as I get older, not give up hmrph!
-
I have to agree, the clothes are really frumpy looking on HSN. I really like Guilana & Hillary Scott when she is on. I use to like Coleen’s line but that is even changing.
-
Agreed! HSN’s clothes have gotten cheap & frumpy. I’m 59 but don’t want to look like my Grandmother did 50 years ago. The material & styles looks like they came straight out of Walmart. I too miss the good designers like Hal Rubenstein & IMAN back in the day–not now.
As far as Joy, I kinda miss her. I love her hangers, steamer & some of her early luggage pieces were nice. Several of her other items were junk.
What’s happening to HSN?

Has anyone bought Marla Wynne’s collection? They seem quite expensive, but I guess not for designer choices. I liked one of her blouses, but most of the collection is quite “wide” and I’m not a small woman.
-
I like Marla’s line of clothing. She has become one of my favorites. Try her line. -
Talk about frumpy AND SO OVERPRICED….Marla Wynne’s fashions are awful!! Boxey boxey boxey and hang like a big trash bag.
-
Marla’s line is not my cup of tea at all.
-
-
I have to agree. I’m no fashion plate but most of the clothes now look like my grandma & I”m almost 60!. I still have clothes from Hal, older Colleen Lopez, Liz Lange , Randolph Duke etc.
As for Dianne’s jeans, they’re the only ones I wear due to my body shape. I have jeans from 10 years ago.
Does anyone remember when Bradley Misckha was there.?
I think it went downhill when Mindy Grossman left and now under QVC it’s gotten worse.-
Hal Rubinstein and Badgley Misckha were excellent designers with excellent quality clothes.

I still buy Antthony, MarlaWynne, DG2 and basic Slinky dresses. I can’t think of anything else I buy anymore. HSN used to have a lot of exclusives. But now it’s things that I can get out there, items that look like everything else. What we’re looking for are things that are different like before. Not the same-o same-o.
I understand companies change but I don’t think HSN changed for the best. -
I just happened upon this conversation but I must agree, the clothes that HSN are offering are beyond frumpy and cheap looking. I’m no spring chicken but I just refuse to have a closet full of things that look like they came from walllmart. With the exception of Marla Wynne, I buy little or nothing in the clothing lines carried. I listen to the constant complaints about Marla Wynne prices and wonder to myself just where these women have been shopping. tHE SHOES ARE NO BETTER- HOW FAR THEY HAVE FALLEN. iT’S APPARENT THE qvc OBJECTIVE IS TO TOTALLY DESTROY THE hsn BRAND- THEY ARE DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB. wITH THE BAIT AND SWITCH PRICES AND THE RIDICULOUS SHIPPING AND HANDLING THAT IS MIRROWING qvc, IT WON’T BE LONG. i KNOW i’LL SAVE QUITE A BIT OF MONEY BUT WHAT A SHAME. oNLINE SHOPPING WILL EVENTUALLY KILL THEM ALL.
-
Why are celebrity clothing pieces so expensive? Vanessa Williams is a singer and actress, why would I pay more for a name? Bring back the designers you let fall by the wayside HSN. I’m more than disappointed in the shoe offerings – they stink. If my mother was alive and lived in a Nursing home, I would buy shoes from HSN for her.
-
I agree, the shoes are ugly. I am and will always be a shoe lover. There are no pretty shoes out there. I refuse to buy all the so called comfort shoes. They looks of them belong in a nursing home. Too much comfort style in clothing and shoes. Disappointing.
-
Kay Kay228, I agree w/ your statement about Vanessa William’s line. I was excited to see her on thinking there might be hope for HSN’s recent decline in fashion. I thought her clothes looked a little tacky & overpriced. Most of these celebs are overpriced–except IMAN wasn’t.
Bethany Frankel has a $90 “pleather” moto & you can’t get a gorgeous GILI jacket on QVC for $50-$60. Bethany’s presentation was irritating too.
If you can get Joan Boyce’s jewelry on sale, her line is so nice! Total quality & she offers a lifetime warranty which I’m not sure you would ever need to use.
