VALUEPAY IS NOT THE WAY TO GO
I recently got an alert that a hard inquiry was made lowering my credit score by 11 points. After further review to my surprise and bewilderment I found that shophq made the inquiry. Customer service said that because I used VALUEPAY to purchase an item over $200 it can generate an inquiry randomly. I have been a customer for well over ten years using VALUEPAY and NEVER had this occur!! There is NO WAY a long standing customer like myself would know this when making a purchase unless speaking to a CSR and if it’s random would they know??? Also to have an inquiry when using a credit card that is not shophq is RIDICULOUS!!!! They don’t even do a soft inquiry which doesn’t impact your score the same as a hard one. I can understand if I was applying for a shophq card but that was not the case. I already was subjected to a hard inquiry initially from the company issuing my card and for shophq to have the AUDACITY to do one also is poor business. I am seriously considering not using this shopping channel anymore.

On their site it says, “ValuePay orders may be subject to credit approval by ShopHQ and ShopHQ reserves the right to review credit reports to qualify customers for ValuePay. If an inquiry is made by ShopHQ, it will show on the customer’s credit report.”

If you did not authorize a hard credit check, you can dispute it and request that it be removed. Google “dispute hard credit check ”
Good luck. -
Thanks BonnABC. I have seriously been considering doing just what you suggested. It has not set well with me at all.
Also I have begun spreading the word about shophq practices. I am glad it has already started to make others think twice.
Appreciate the encouraging words. -
Re: VALUEPAY IS NOT THE WAY TO GO
Hi avatar 806, what shophq did to you is absolutely outrageous!
I’ve never bought anything from shophq, and after reading your post, I never will take the chance.
Clearly they can’t be trusted. It seems to me you might be able to bring a lawsuit against them. I suggest contacting your local television news stations and talking with their consumer advocate – or reporter that does human interest stories. In many cities local news stations have a consumer advocate that will do a televised report on a situation like yours – it would be worth getting it on TV. Also I suggest getting “the word out thee” on what shophq did to you.
Don’t let those, jerks, dampen the happiness of the new year and the start of a wonderful decade. (((Hugs)))
