Hosts Leaving
Two words. Age discrimination. Did you notice the hosts who have “left” (or leaving soon) HSN and QVC since the merger are ‘seasoned ” (of a certain age.) They are replaced with younger, cheaper hosts. I understand seasoned Hosts are more expensive. However, these hosts have a loyal following. We feel as if we “know” them, and are more inclined to watch a show…and buy products. If I am channel surfing and come across an HSN show with one of my favorite hosts, I’ll watch for the familiarity factor. I’ll change the channel if I don’t know the host. I am in an industry, where the seasoned employees are often replaced with younger, cheaper, less experienced people. There’s something to be said for experience and knowledge. They know the business. They have a work ethic. They do not act like they are entitled to work and receive the same benefits as their seasoned counterparts. It’s being penny-wise and pound-foolish. These seasoned Hosts you’ve fired or forced out MADE YOUR NETWORKS SUCCESSFUL, and now you discard them like yesterday’s trash. QVC and HSN executives -you disgust me, and many others. Would you want your parents treated like this? One day, you will also be replaced by a younger, cheaper model. You reap what you sow.

Amen to this post!! I truly hope these seasoned hosts go to other shopping networks. ShopHQ etc.

This drives me nuts – how ALL the HSN hostesses slaughter the first name of the lady spokesperson for M. Asam beauty products. All they have to do is go to Howtopronounce.com and type in “Beata.” They will sound much more intelligent if they would just do this. It is NOT pronounced as “Bee-uh- tay.” I cringe every time they say it incorrectly, which is ALL the time. The lady herself is too polite to correct them. End of my rant. Thanks for reading.

None of us are wrong for how we feel yet, I don’t feel any of the hosts are my friends. I guess if one has watched for years and years, these people’s TV persona becomes familiar to us. But we don’t really know these people that we watch on TV. We are watching them on their job, watching them work. They work hard to make us think they have our backs, are not selling when they are selling. It is a matter of personal preference really – the hosts many say they love simply irritate me. I find that I watch during commercials from other shows only. I don’t sit and watch the entire sales show. It is simply too painful and boring to watch grown adults gushing and emoting over a product and telling us how we need to buy two. So I guess I’d say I am ambivalent and I share my opinion to hopefully give another perspective.

“Watching themselves in the monitors”, oh yes, a lot of the hosts do that, including some of them who are “not so young”!!! Let the models do their jobs and quit trying to model the items while you prance and twirl around looking silly. Some hosts on QVC also do this, one in particular. I miss the professionalism that made watching HSN a pleasure. So sad to see those days gone forever.

Hi, new to posting here but this topic on hosts is of interest, so please excuse me if this isn’t the place to say that there are some of the younger hosts that I simply cannot watch. Won’t name names, but the non-stop banter with continual, almost mumbling, “side comments” and under their breath comments to self that are meant to be humorous just kill any momentum of the presentation which is moving too “hard sell” to begin with. A good sales person knows how to make a connection with the purchaser by “talking” directly to them, stating a usable and desirable feature of a product, then pausing (and PLEASE take a non-gasping breath). The pause allows the customer to think about how that feature is going to help them and makes them want to know more. A couple of the younger ones make it all about themselves, watching themselves in the monitors, immature behavior, and failing to give good product information.

wow I’ve been slow on the uptake ~ dear Lesley Machado is no longer on HSN ~ what’s going on? I love the host that are still there ~ but “but things they are a changing”
Have an awesome day wonderful people 🙂 -
Hi everyone ~ I miss our dear Shannon Smith. And Shannon Fox.
Remember the days when HSN was fun ~ on all night ~ and the merch was so much better ~
sigh ~ Group Hug ~-
Yes it is just not the same anymore. With Colleen Lopez only selling her own jelewery now and Shannon Smith gone. The only good thing, I wont spend as much money.

I too feel that there are too many hosts on both QVC and HSN that are very annoying, don’t explain the product and overtalk the vendors, and the chattering among themselves needs to stop. I don’t tune in to hear about their weekend, their home life or anything. Just talk about the product please. You are going to lose your longtime customers with this continued behavior.
-
Jane T always talks about her family it is very annoying even if I am interested in the product I turn it off because of her
-
Totally agree! The over talking is really annoying. Everyone brings up needing or wanting some wine. I don’t begrudge anyone for having a glass or 2 of wine but it feels they are shoving in my face since I rarely imbibe. All of us watching are not sucking on the bottle. Just seems so shallow.

Bobbi and Bob Circosta were the first to introduce people to home shopping. If I remember correctly, they sold an item over the radio. It sold out quite fast. Then it was up to Bobbi and Bob to box or wrap the item and then send it off to the customer.
-
sad situation, many of us are upset with the firing,no warning just pull them off of their shift and tell them you are fired ,leave immediately.shame on you.
-
Bobbi Ray is probably one of the oldest ones and she isn’t being let go. The older hosts I think try to hard (not Bobbi) to be upbeat and it isn’t believable. To me the younger hosts seem more natural. Voices change too (deeper) with age and I find it hard to listen to.

Are you for real? How would you know that the younger hosts have no “work ethic” or are “entitled.?” It sounds like the one who is engaging in age discrimination is you! You are discriminating against the younger hosts. Don’t forget, these “seasoned” hosts started when they were young, too.
Unless you have some inside scoop, there is no proof that the seasoned hosts were “forced out” or “fired.” Your argument is ridiculous and sounds like bitter grapes.
There are hosts I like and hosts I don’t like, regardless of their ages. I, for one, will not discriminate against the younger, newer hosts JUST because they are younger and/or newer by refusing to watch.
I feel sorry for you. Btw, I am the age of these seasoned hosts.

Yes, I do know what is going on with both sister stations and Qurate take over.. John Malone and his wife, the previous owner for some years back of both HSN and QVC, were my neighbors. Wonderful people and cared about the town, the county, the country, the people and all their teams. Malone would never have treated hosts and employees as badly as Qurate did, pink slipping 400 employees with less than a days notice.
-
John Malone is Qurate’s chairman and owns the majority of voting shares. He is in control.

I agree. I am outraged at the great hosts I enjoyed for years as a customer of 30 years, are out and dimwits are in. Both HSN and QVC now hire mostly young females who have voices like nails on a blackboard, silly teenage valley girl language patterns and too busy flipping their hair around to try to look cute. They know zilch about the product they are selling, they are not entertaining and they are too painful to hear and watch. They are airheads and talk over the guest vendors we want to hear. I am dropping both QVC and HSN cards. Better prices at big box stores and the big A online store. They deliver and have same flex and easy payments for big items. I purchased 4 TVs, 3 beds. 4 lazy boy chairs, 3 computers in the 90s and at least 8 laptops the last 25 years, 8 tablets, 15 phones, clothes, dozens of pairs of shoes and 13 pairs of winter boots, winter parkas, hats, lotions and potions from QVC and HSN hosts that did their homework, studied their product and knew what they were talking about. These new hosts are annoying, irritating, cheap and tacky in my opinion. They came in with an entitlement attitude customers find overbearing and a turn off. I give these two sites 3 years and they will be off the air. TG.
