The average age of these vehicles has climbed to a record 12.8 years (projected to hit 13.0 by 2026), meaning a significant portion of cars currently driven were manufactured well over a decade ago.

Ford and Chevrolet typically command the largest shares of the total U.S. vehicle parc. This is driven by the enduring presence of millions of F-Series pickups and Silverado trucks, along with older sedans and SUVs that remain in service for 15–20 years. The Ford F-Series alone is frequently cited as the best-selling used vehicle, underpinning Ford’s massive footprint in the total active fleet.
