Never buying plants from QVC or HSN ever again.
I have tried several times to buy live plants from QVC and HSN in the last couple years and I can only call their offerings a ripoff at worst and awful at best.
Here’s the result of my purchases, planted exactly as the literature in the box said:
10 strawberry bare roots- Not one plant grew.
six rose bushes- one is struggling to survive; three arrived dead; the other two died after planting
hummingbird mint- dead.
4 butterfly bushes- three dead, one barely alive.
I am thinking the plants they use as displays for the broadcast are as fake as the people selling them.
End of rant.

I know what you mean. I still have two out of six rosebushes that I bought sometime last year. They are barely hanging on. I have ordered some succulents that never multiplied, and they eventually died. I have bought other plants that arrived dead. This year, I bought an amaryllis in a waxy bulb. I have to say that that has been the most successful plant so far. It actually bloomed several times. Right now, it is dormant, but I hope it will keep blooming.

I tried the lavender from QVC and decided never again. I got them to grow gang busters, really get large and then they all died out. But with the huge drought all over the USA, many plants simply can’t make it. Don’t know if you live where there has been a lot of hot hot weather and lack of rain. I am giving up on anything planted this year because it is simply overly hot here and overly dry, we are 12 inches under normal rainfall and we came into 2022 with a rainfall deficit. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. Has not been a fun gardening year for me.

I tried purchasing plants from HSN and realized when I did a comparison they were less expensive at the local nursery. Besides, you can pick and choose the plant you want and you know they are healthy before they go into the soil.

Yes sometimes they state plants are artificial. I stopped purchasing anything live from them 2 yrs ago. From tomatoes to houseplants to other items, as I have found ALL to be of inferior quality. The prices are riduculous. I thought long & hard about it, how they stated sometimes no middle man? Well there is the grower, then the provider who purchases from them, then shopping channel? All three need a portion of the sales price. Now I sometimes watch & get a good laugh at the wee lil “mater” plants etc they offer. I am back to ordering catalogs from places that sell nothing but plants, and they grow them as well. I have fun ordering catalogs and studying them and taking my time to order. Can even chat with a person online who will answer any and all questions. It is wonderful. In winter it is fun to peruse catalogs for special items I want to plant in spring.

Hi vermonttenor,
I can relate . QVC now explains the plants on air can be mostly artificial . I think that’s not fair and I plan to think hard before purchase . I have one nice rose bush out of several Purchase . HSN QVC gave a refund for one request .
