Order in packaging for a week but card charged days ago

I placed an order on 11/9. It said extended delivery so I wasn’t expecting to get it quickly. I was pleased when I saw that it had moved to the “packaging” status but it’s been like that for a week. Then, after checking my HSN card/Synchrony account I see that the first payment (Flexpay) was already charged on 11/14. Usually I do not get charged until the order says it’s been shipped and tracking info is available. Why am I being charged so far in advance? And yes, the charge went through – it is not just “pending”.
