Wolfgang Puck – Terrible TV Presence
I don’t know if this has been a topic or not, but I hope HSN takes note of this post!
Wolfgang Puck was on air the other evening, dipping his finger into food then eating it, over and over. He was eating from a lot of the dishes being made, chewing, without looking at the host. Honestly, I found it gross, unsanitary, and thought he was disinterested in being where he was. Maybe he hadn’t eaten all day; all he did on that show was eat with terrible manners. I changed channels…couldn’t watch any longer. Maybe his products are good, but I had to stop watching, and I can’t even remember what was being sold! If there are other viewers like me, HSN may be losing business over things like this!
I like the Wolfer. Especially when he teams up with Shannon. If you’re not in the studio and not eating food it makes no difference what he does……Ronnie
Don’t like Wolfie and his somewhat arrogant/obnoxious personality; nor do I like the way he handles food. If any of his fellow professional chefs watch him, they prolly cringe whenever he rubs his nose with the same rag with which he handles the food. It’s disrespectful. It essentially says to the audience and consumers that he doesn’t care because he’s a big "star." He’s above following any etiquette or guidelines because he makes and has big money. He doesn’t care about opinions, rules of conduct, or decorum. He’ll just keep serving up snot and saliva.
It is obvious that HSN doesn’t care. He makes money for them, and that’s their bottom line. However, if people don’t watch because they are grossed out, that LOSES money.
My daughter had to take a restaurant sanitation class. Most of what he does goes against that. Maybe he does that in his own restaurants, but they really should tone it down on HSN.
I can’t watch him. It’s hard to believe that he owns several restaurants and caters to the Hollywood elite. He keeps wiping his nose and then touches the food. Basic hygiene and food safety are obviously lacking. I find it disgusting to watch and would never touch anything he cooks.
Who eats foei gras anymore? Barbaric treatment to get it. Those dishes you mentioned are all outdated. Very few younger people eat that kind of food anymore, there are younger and far more modern chefs out there that are innovative and more creative. French cuisine is not that popular.. Wolfang is an older generation chef, maybe their standards were different. I have friends in the restaurant industry, and they have very strict sanitary standards because of Hepatitis A and other serious illnesses that you can get from ill prepared and cooked food..
Just the difference in people I guess….what bothers one not the other…as for me, I would be honored if Wolfie cooked a meal for me. When he’s on, I sure don’t switch channels……so dapper in his glasses. Seriously, really……get off it. Use your remote!
Yes you can defend anyone or anything. But defending it doesn’t make right nor acceptable. Wolfgang/HSN at least try to understand we want to purchase his items but it is disturbing to watch him lick up food and rub/blow his nose. .
Come on Wolfgang it’s unsanitary. Just imagine what goes on in most restaurants low and high end. Awful.
and just because famous people do it, doesn’t make it acceptable.
Well, this post is very enlightening.
I have worked in food service my whole life, and have never once, seen anyone lick a spoon or fingers….but I have worked in low-end chain restaurants. So I guess if you don’t want to pay for and eat somebody’s spit/germs, then you shouldn’t go to high-end restaurants.
…and yes, I agree, Wolfgang is absolutely repulsive! Blech!!!!
This post is ludicris…WP is a professional chef…that is what they do…that is how they cook…no, you would not let your children or anyone else do that…he is promoting a product…and acting like a chef!!!
Obviously, none of the people who complain about WP’s kitchen doings have ever worked in a professional kitchen; which is why, when you go to a restaurant, the kitchen is hidden from the dining room, *lol*
I’ve worked professionally in two 4-Star hotel kitchens and let me tell you, these chefs taste, taste, taste everything. If they had to use a spoon each time, they’d go through about a thousand spoons a night. As well, it’s about 110-degrees in a kitchen, ALL NIGHT LONG, so, yeah, they wipe their faces constantly. No ‘at home cook’ is ever subjected to those kinds of temperatures… nor, for so long a time. Thus, better to have them wiping their faces, including their noses, than having their perspiration and mucous dripping into your food.
So, my advice is this—> get over it, *lol*.
I don’t like how he’s always wipeing his nose or touching his nose or face..just to much nasty habits to be a famous chef. He makes me gag sometimes always around his nose just watch him next time he does it every show. The host act like they don’t see it but they do can’t say anything but he don’t cook for me,and then digging in the food he just looks dirty to me. I like his products but his bad habits need to not be there if your on tv. I would not eat anybody’s food I see doing that. Just my thought.
Seemingly it is a behavior that is deeply rooted in him. As a young cook, he was probably trained to taste, Taste, Taste all of the food. Perhaps as a child, he might have been hungry at times. People who grow up hungry will always be hungry and they will always eat food when it is present. Using hands and fingers is what’s done in commercial and many home kitchens.
I don’t know what it is … But It will Not change.
It is why before I eat Any food that I didn’t prepare … I say a little Prayer.
As Puck is one of HSN’s primary vendors, generating significant sales volumes, I seriously doubt that they are concerned.
Were you under the mistaken notion that he was cooking food for you or the public? He is demonstrating his products — not cooking for the public. He is also cooking products on a television set with no running water.
If you do not enjoy him, do not watch, but to claim that his cooking style is grossing you out S(Sdespite the fact that this is food that you will not be consuming) is a bit on the silly side.
