What’s your all-time favorite jewelry piece?
A cherished family heirloom? A long wished-for dream that finally came true? A stunning gemstone that captured your heart and wouldn’t let go until it was on your finger? I know that all of us have favorite jewelry pieces that we like to wear for different occasions and with different outfits – but do you have one special item in your collection that stands supreme above all the others?
All the fun and excitement during this week’s Tucson Gem Event has really had me revisiting my jewelry collection and drooling over some of the photos that other members have posted from their own treasure troves! I often get asked what my absolute favorite jewelry piece is, the one item that I would keep if I had to (gasp!) relinquish every other jewel I own. It is a nearly impossible question to answer. Let’s face it, my jewels are like children or pets – I love all of them for their own reasons and in their own way! But it does make me think.
I suppose that if I really could only keep one, then it would have to be my engagement ring; as I am sure is the case with many of us. But if I could get a free "safe" pass on that one and remove it from the equation…hmm. That’s where the real challenge begins! LOL.
Even though I have acquired many more rare and valuable pieces since then, I think my number one top pick would still have to be my first emerald and diamond ring. As a young girl from a gem-mad family, the earliest thing I can remember wanting (other than a diamond the size of my fist) was a truly "classic" emerald ring. I saw it in my imagination for so many years that when I finally encountered it in real life, it wouldn’t have mattered how many 60 hour weeks I had to work to get it; it would be mine! *grin* Almost twenty years later, I love it today every bit as much as I did the day all my hard work finally paid off and I was able to bring it home with me.
How about you? Do you have one special piece that you love the most – and what’s the story behind it?
I have a very large collection from bad boy bling to rich elegant stones. I will have to say my favorite is my second piece I purchased being a med size simple cross that I purchased in 1990 and it was before everyone really took the cross as a simple fashion statement, In all of these years I can look at it right now. I call it my guardian good luck and grace cross.
I make sure to wear it if flying, or to a Dr Appt, or road trip. I can say out of all my jewelry this is the one item that will rest on my chest in my last days.
I do not need to wear jewelry to be bling or stared at yet this cross is like amazing. Everyone has stopped my all these years and commented on it.
SIMPLE STERLING- Not a dance club bling cross. I have several of those and the look is over done.
YES IT IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE, GREAT POST AND HOW INSPIRING-
My Grandmother’s wedding ring. HUGE Peridot. She just loved it and my Grandfather bought it for her. Will try to post a pic later. But it just happened to be my birthstone. Who knew? I wouldn’t take anything for that ring!!!!!
I also have the diamond ring she got for their 50th Annivesary. Again, wouldn’t take anything for that one either.
Seanchai. My God your hands are beautiful. So elegant and this is without the stunning ring.
What a great topic, Seanchai!
For me, it is my first engagement ring. Free pass? My second engagement ring (from the same and current) husband!!!
The third choice will be my first emerald ring… from the same husband….very similar to yours. I have no idea how to post pictures. And then on and on! I will be keeping up with this thread!
