Watch Lore
I love watches, but quartz watches always need batteries replaced. Somewhere I read you can pull out the stem of the watch when storing and it makes the battery last longer. Of course you have to set the time each wearing. Has anyone ever tried this trick to save battery life of watches? Now that I am retired, I only wear my watch when going out and wear my Citizen Eco-drive watch that charges from light.

Yes, I do it all the time and it does prolong the battery life considerably. Of course it depends upon how often you do wear the watch. I don’t have a problem resetting the watch. It’s worth it.

I have pulled out the stems on unused watches. It prolongs the battery life somewhat but the batteries still do not last as long as a watch you wear everyday.

It *does* work, but as my hubby is a rabid watch collector (think cases of the things) I rarely bother with my own. Every “time change” he goes through all of our watches and changes out the batteries that need replacing just like the smoke alarms. LOL.

Yes, pulling the stem out does prolong the life of battery, I have several watches, which I don’t wear often anymore, and they are still running once I push the stem back in, and reset the time, which is no big deal to do. Why should the watch still run if it’s just sitting somewhere for several months before I wear it. Save money where you can…..
have more to spend at HSN.

I have heard that & funny this thread came up as Saturday I was cleaning my jewelry & going thru all my late Mom’s jewelry (she recently passed) & was cleaning that & then I went to all my watches. I have 10 watches that need batteries replaced!!!!! Zales wants $15 a watch to replace on my ceramic watches. Any ideas on how to change them less expensively?? Some of my watches are really good watches & some are just fun watches which those I will have my husband pry off the backs & go to Walmart & get batteries for those. Kind of makes me wish I didn’t buy all those watches but I love collecting watches…….

Why don’t you consider the Citizen Eco Drive, or otherwise a “kinectic” type. This would eliminate need for batteries.

When my batteries die….I go to Batteries Plus and they replace the batteries for you at no extra cost, just the cost of the batteries which are not expensive, especially when I see their sales on watch batteries that are usually located in the papers or comes in mail with all the other junk mail.

Yes I do and its a great idea to save battery:)
Sometimes I do tend to forget and have to buy another battery at the store:)
I always take my watch when I wear it to the store that sell watch batteries like K Mart:)
