Problem with Jay King item
Perhaps this issue has been discussed before, but I am new to the community.
After a very challenging year in 2014, I treated myself to a piece of Jay King jewelry (huge fan) at Christmas time, something I waited to purchase for a long time.
Love the item, but it arrived with a milky covering on part of the silver pendant. At least it appears to be a covering, and it’s not cloudy on all of the pendant, only a portion of the silver. It makes the silver, which otherwise should shine, look cloudy, amost ‘dirty’.
Does anyone know what causes this and how to remove it — if it can be removed? I love the item and it has since sold out so I cannot exchange it for a replacement. By the way, I had this same problem with a vintage piece of JK jewelry I bought on eBay a while ago and was never able to figure out how to resolve that issue either….I will go to a jeweler if necessary.
Best to all and Happy 2015!
Good job with the pics… YES I can see the cloudy areas. It’s almost like a matte finish in areas….like it was not buffed enough to get the high polished shine.
I have seen something like this on hand made silver rings on the inside, where the band is soldered to the top piece of the ring. It’s of the area on the inside of the ring that touches the top of your finger.
I don’t know how long ago you got this piece, but I would call HSN & let them know about the problem. Explain you are trying to contact Jay King to get this repaired. If it can not be repaired perfectly, the way it should look, you should be able to return it. I have kept things that were not "right" thinking I would wear them anyways… I never do. I know sometimes we like something so much we make adjustments for defects. This is pretty noticeable & a pretty expensive piece to just sit in your jewelry box.
And when push comes to shove…do you think Jay King would want you wearing it as it is right now? (what would Jay do?)
Good luck……keep us posted on what happens !! :womansad:
Posting the item number helped, now we can still see the pendant!
Wow…quite pretty too !
My question to you is this…. is the cloudy area on the back of the pendant or the front?
I see an area on the back that is in the center, in the shape of the cross. It’s the area that the larger stones are set on the reverse side. The area looks "scooped out" in the shape of a cross. Is that the area you were talking about? My guess is you are probably going to say …duh..NO ! That would just be too easy!
BUT …… since JK made LESS THAN 100 of these pendants.. I’m am certain he would make this right! And once you have his attention, tell him about the other JK piece you have with the same issue.
Good luck with pictures to show what you are talking about.:womanhappy:
Sorry to read about your problem. Is it possible to post a picture of the pendant? Sometimes its easier to see the issue, or problem, rather than reading about it (or at least that’s the case for me).
Even though it has sold out, is the picture still showing on line? I looked and saw several silver pendants with 1 left, or sold out. Some with stones, 1 or 2 without stones.
Since most of JK’s things include stones, how you try to clean your piece could be limited.
Do you have a silver polishing cloth? Try that first. Do NOT put it in liquid, or a sonic cleaner.
You also could ask JK directly. Ask HSN how to contact him… or look for his blog on HSN.com.
I would start by posting a picture here & see if you can get more help than I could offer.
Good Luck & keep us posted!
Hi Jay_fan. Welcome to the forums.
I’ve heard that Jay King’s company is really good with helping with problems. You can find their contact info by googling "Jay King jewelry" or "Desert Rose Trading."
