Jay King Turquoise
I noticed in the description of much of Jay King’s jewelry that his turquoise is "compressed". Definition I found online:: "turquoise "chalk" that is very low grade and has been ground into powder, saturated with epoxy resin, dyed, and compressed into blocks or cakes to be cut into shapes for jewelry making. Prices should be most inexpensive". First of all, I think this should absolutely be mentioned on air and second of all, it sounds as though the sleeping beauty turquoise he sells (or has sold) would be kind of worthless if this process is used. Thoughts?
Well, I tried to make a nice post thanking Luckyruby for her information to go to Jay’s blog, but it did not post. I will re-post it later
HI Worthington……I posted a suggestion but it ended up more towards the bottom…..go to Jay’s Blog here on HSN instead of his facebook page…..HE WILL answer you for sure there…….
Okay, this ‘compressed’ issue has been going on for awhile…..Jay already corrected it ON AIR AND is making a little film on his process of ‘compressed’……so people can see EXACTLY what is being done. It was already discussed that the last TS was compressed so he could bring more QUANTITY. This subject is really old now.
I have about ten (10) jay king necklaces….turquoise, garnet, auqamarine, etc..and I DO NOT have one problem with any of them. They are all beautiful! I have 3 or 4 bracelets also and love them also. No stone issues, no clasp issues….nothing.
I feel bad for the people that are getting inferior pieces. But, I would not blame Jay. Now reality says that not every single one of his workers are probably up to par, as with any large business. And there’s no doubt in my mind, that when Jay becomes aware of the problem, he corrects it immediately. And I think one of the biggest complaints on here has actually been HSN quality control. If his items were so terrible, he would not still be in business.
Yes, you do have to send a $10 check in with any piece you are having repaired – to cover POSTAGE AND HANDLING costs….which we all know are not cheap. Think of other pieces of your jewelry..if it’s 5 years old for example, can you take it back to where you purchased it and have them repair it for $10…..I don’t think so. Jay is one of the few vendors that does stand behind his products….forever!
Himalayan Gems…I bought a sterling silver/lab bracelet…it was gorgeous but after a week the silver was already Black Oxidized?!? It would not clean up no how, no way…I sent it back and decided that I will not purchase from this vendor again because apparently what filler they are using with their sterling does not agree with me. I’m not going to bash the Company over it…their items just do not work for me.
As for Jay having any material that is ‘low grade’…IMO I highly doubt it. Does he compress if he doesn’t have much of a material…probably.
If we could all afford to own ALL non-compressed turquoise, etc., I think we might be shopping somewhere other than here. And Jay DOES have his gallery pieces…if you want to pay the price for them. It’s all in what you like and are willing to pay.
And HSN is GREAT with their return policy…..I know there have been problems with other Vendors items too……someone received a broken Heidi necklace…..I don’t think Heidi would be happy about that but she is another one that stands behind her jewelry 100%.
There’s alot of problems with Rarities….and she DOES NOT stand behind her products !
So, if you don’t want compressed, then keep browsing until you find something you do like. It’s not very nice to run a wonderful business into the ground because you don’t personally care for their product….that goes for Jay and whoever else has had the misfortune of a customer getting a ‘bum’ piece of jewelry.
HSN has a WONDERFUL assortment to fit everyone’s taste and pocketbook….we all need to just be really happy about that ! And if we receive something that we don’t like or is defective, then we get to send it back…and have the opportunity to shop for something we may like better.
And as for the ‘Sleeping Beauty’….if you have ever watched Jay on air, he hardly has any sleeping beauty left. That mine has been closed for some time now. Any sleeping beauty from Jay (and most other designers) are usually small cabachons now.
It makes me sad that people act this way….do you go into a department store and ask if the stones are compressed…..9/10 they won’t even be able to answer your question on that ! Are you going to rant and rave at the counter IF they are selling compressed stones?!? I doubt it because they would be throwing your butt out of their store. The people that want top quality, expensive turquoise, know exactly where to find it. And if you want that from Jay, buy a gallery piece….it’s pretty simple. Jay brings us alot of unusual stones, which I happen to personally love. And I also love knowing the story behind those stones.
It’s pretty much to each his own….if we were all the same and liked the same things, what a boring world this would be! I really think we all need to try a little more kindness, the world can be a not so nice place on it’s own….especially nowadays…..it takes so little effort to say one nice thing each day…..even if it’s to someone you don’t particularly care for. Try it…I think you’ll be surprised 🙂
I think it is bad business to sell compressed stones – especially since the customer thinks they are getting the real deal. Shame on HSN and Jay King. I’d never purchase any off his stuff. I’ll stick with the real, quality pieces I’ve found elsewhere (like on EVINE).
I hate to say it, but his jewelry is junk. Pretty designs, worthless stones, poor workmanship, everything I have purchased from him was either broken and missing pieces when it arrived or fell apart just after the 30 day refund period. May lightning strike me down if I am ever foolish enough to give him another chance. And if you go to his website to repair his problems, he has the audacity to want you to pay HIM for the defects in his jewelry! I should post pictures, you would not believe the difference between what is shown on tv and what you actually receive.
just noticed a number of threads on this already. Should have looked first. sorry!
