We asked: What has been your favorite birthday surprise ever?
You answered: When I was 12 years old my sister and brother-in-law bought me a Black Onyx ring. I love that ring so much. At 59 years old, I still have that ring and wear it often. This is probably the most memorable gift I have ever received.

I’d have to say it was my 45th birthday. It wasn’t necessarily a surprise because I knew what was going on. The surprise part came in with the “weekend” that happened due to the gifts I received. I received two free tickets to the Rolling Stones tour in Atlanta on Saturday night. Hubs and I spent the night, short thought it was in Atlanta. Because the next day, my boss (at the time) had surprised me with the BEST EVER tickets to the NASCAR Atlanta race. It was the best birthday ever! 🙂 🙂
My best birthday memory was a surprise appearance from my father at my birthday dinner when I was young. My father had a job that required lengthy travel in the spring, working for several months before returning home. Seeing him walk in to the room was unexpected and so exciting.
When I was 8 or 9 I got a beautiful full size rocking chair painted black with my initials written in Gold on the top of the rocking chair and at 67 yr old I still have this and it is beautiful and looks brand new still and has been used to rock all of my nephews and neice.
all my friends know that i do not celebrate my birthday, because of something that happened on my birthday when i was 6. but 9 years ago my soul mate, told me get dressed , we are going out to dinner for your birthday. i argued but as always, i lost the arguement. it was a beautiful dinner.
but that is not what made it my favorite birthday ever. it was that she was killed 9 months later, and every year since, i make sure i go out to dinner on my birthday. in memory of her (making sure i had a good memory about my birthday , not the bad one. i hope you see why that birthday is my favorite. i hope everyone can have at least one birthday like this to always remember. art
My favorite birthday surprise ever was a puppy dog when I was child.
A mustache! When my husband and I got married, very young, I mentioned one time I thought he would look like Omar Sharif if he grew a mustache. He was in the Air Force and got shipped off to Turkey for 15 months and I was home with two small children. We had zero money for gifts. For my birthday, he sent me a picture of him with a mustache. We’ve been married 52 years and he still has it. And to me he looks like Omar Sharif every day. He’s Italian and wears it well.
When he left me with the children, I only had a learner’s permit. For his birthday I sent him a copy of my driver’s license, which was a great relief to him, that I could drive and get around with the kids without depending on anyone.
I am lucky because I have had a lot of great birthday surprises but my favorite has to be getting my first horse. My birthday is the 4th of July so the worst surprise was finding out the fireworks were not for my birthday when I was 4 or 5!
My favorite birthday surprise was a trip to Disneyland for my 7th or 8th birthday. It had recently opened and my cousins lived close by. That year I got a white frilly blouse and a black flower-printed, quilted skirt; but the best gift was the trip to Disneyland. Since we lived in San Diego, it was the first of many trips.
Adam… I’ve been very fortunate in having had lots of great Birthday celebrations with family and friends over the years; BUT, at 64-years-old, have to admit that the most ECSTATIC was when my parents gave me a car for my 16th Birthday.
I was so NOT expecting it that it really took me by surprise. I was screaming, crying, jumping up & down, twirling with glee, and kissing them to pieces for this gift.
This memory, (and all the feelings associated with it), still stands-out as the BEST BIRTHDAY SURPRISE EVER!
Well, as embarrassing as this was at the time, it’s still my favorite birthday surprise. I had a hair dye mishap at the hair salon. The stylist turned my hair Smurf blue. For fear of any further damage, I tearfully left the salon with Smurf blue hair and came home to a house full of people yelling “Surprise!” My sneaky husband planned a surprise 40th Birthday party for me. The surprise was on him, and his reaction was priceless when he caught a glimpse of my Smurf blue hair. Surprise!
Knowing that I did a great job and all patients survived the shift.
Hi Adam, my most favorite birthday surprise was this year when I turned 70 and my daughter turned 50! We celebrated together when she and her husband and my three grandchildren flew out to California and we spent five days in Disneyland! The second week, we visited touristy sites up and down the California coast. Best surprise ever!
Honestly, I think it has been HSN’s birthday month.
I’m all ready for fall,
shopping the clearance dept.
Thanks! HSN,Happy 40th…wishing you many more!
A surprise birthday party when I was in College, that is the only time I had anyone plan me a surprise party! It was super fun and all my friends were in on it AND they managed to keep it secret! 🙂
