@trekky. Thanks for telling me. I didn’t see it on the show. This is my first win and it feels very nice to win. How do you see everything you see. You have such good info. Thank you for all you share.
Thank you HSN, Brett and Jordan for the gift card !
Fall is my favorite season. It is the peak of all that is made by the warmth of the summer sun and fresh rain showers.
I start preparing for fall by trimming back the gardens, cutting back the spent blooms making room for the rich fall hues of those late summer blooms. The harvest will carry us into the winter.
I try to keep the fallen tree leaves cleaned up and mulched into my garden beds to protect the annuals from the on coming winter snows. Those turning leaves provide a rich tapestry of color as our days turn gray, a fitting farewell to our rich summer lushness.
It is a time we turn our attention to the inside of our homes. Creature comforts……nice rich linens, fluffy pillows and comforters. Clean carpets and polish floors and windows. It may feel cooler outside but the warmth of our homes surrounds us. Time to read cookbooks and get ready to bake breads and cakes. Big pots of soup full with the bountiful gifts of our garden.
I have so much to be thankful for and these changing seasons help me see all the wonderful gifts that surround me.
Living in South Carolina, our fall (cool or cooler) weather really doesn’t get started until November. And even then, some years have seen us wearing shorts on Thanksgiving Day.
There isn’t much preparation done specifically for the autumn and winter months. Clothes aren’t packed away or switched out. We may wear those shorts in December! 😉 It is a welcome relief to be able to open the windows for a few weeks once the heat subsidies. We do have the HVAC PM Fall service taken care of before the cold weather sets in. Also, we make sure the generator is all set and ready to run. If snow and ice hit our area during the winter and we lose power, no problem. It wouldn’t be our first rodeo.
Outside around the yard is a different matter. Once the first cold/frost snap hits, the flower gardens are a mess and it’s time for a massive clean up. But the beauty they provide every year is well worth the effort.
I live where the seasons are defined as: darn hot (june) hot and sticky (july-sept.), warm (oct-nov), not too warm (dec-feb) and back to warm (march-may).
Vacumn dust! Clean air from dust, pollen, and dander! Repeat
I love autumn and winter, so I change ALL the linens in my home. Not only the bed sheets, comforters, curtains and drapes but tablecloths and placemats, kitchen and bath towels, too. Even the rugs in my living room, dining room and bathrooms get changed. I also replace the candle scents and plug-in air fresheners. These alterations make it look like I have a new home.
Just in time for Christmas decorations.
I cover our beds in Soft & Cozy and change out our candle scents to match the season. We also love to decorate for the holidays including changing the color of our solar path lights to match the holiday. It’s definitely our favorite time of year and so nice to prepare for cooler weather after such a hot summer.
To prepare for the fall, I love to have my jackets and long sleeve warm clothes available. I have a few fall decorations I put out. Of course, I love my fall shoes and boots.
Well this might be the first year in many years that we are preparing so soon. Just got in my new sets of door draft guards. Have been looking for covers for the swamp cooler.
Got in some new ruanas from clearance! And my clearance throws are being shipped today.
Of course there are many other things we have to do. But at least we have started!
I love Autumn being able to bring in the scents of the season. The kitchen cooking apples and cinnamon fills the house with a warm welcome to fall. I like having the whole house filled with the fall colors putting throws on the couch and a warm wrap to snuggle up in. Bringing in the bright colors of the leaves and decorating the dining room table for a festive Thanksgiving Dinner with family and friends. I’m .Looking forward to all the new trends of the season..
The decorations change with each season t’s the most fun!
I’m curious why you asked this question?
I live in an apartment and what I do to prepare my apartment for the autumn and winter months are:
1. Change blankets to an autumn or winter theme
2. Replace my cooler clothing into a warming season
We are known as the city of five seasons:)
I live in the Midwest U.S.:)
First thing I do is place my fall wreath on the front door that I made self. I enjoy making all my wreaths for all holidays. Living in North Florida we do get to experience some cold weather, it can reach a freeze for a few hours in the winter. I make a lot of chicken broth, lots of containers and freeze for soups, stews, rice, black beans etc. In the summer and fall, I collect and dry my herbs.
I enjoy decorating for the holidays but, what one puts up one must take down so now I keep it light.
