The Pope Money and HSN
I do not know but what do you think the Pope would think of HSN making money off of his visit. I don’t think he would approve
I would like to answer this via a story.
I very much like gardens. I visted a garden so beautiful, it took my breath away. It had a gift shop and I bought a little souvenir. I was happy to see my money support such a wonderful place. More importantly, every time I glance at my little souvenir (it’s a pretty ornament), I get reminded of the beautiful garden and my soul overfills with joy. I can’t even imagine not being given the opportunity to have that pretty ornament because somebody determined that it’s wrong to make money off that beautiful garden.
Yes, the $$ is just One of the driving forces.
The Community Guidelines dictate that no religious comment should be made. Yet there is so much about him On- Air and here in the forum.
Many would not appreciate engaging comments and images of other religious figures … Yet the Catholic material is allowed. He is not everyone’s religious ‘papa’. He is papa for those of his religious denomination. – To which many do not belong.
the main theme of pope francis’ first visit to the united states is to "LOVE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES" and to continue to uphold the family as it is the "leaven of the future"- direct quote from pope francis. this is not about discrimination or labels or attachments. this is about urging people to go back to the basics. loving and respecting yourself as well as loving and respecting others and the enviornment. these are basic values that the majority of people in this country and the world share or wish to continue and spread. also, the italian and vatican press has been forever repeating and saying nothing but how pope francis is so enthusiastic to introduce himself to the american people as he understands us to be an environmentally-conscious, open-minded, forward-looking people and ultimately, a wonderful and influential world role-model that should be looked up to and respected. this is a well-educated leader who holds the people of this world dear and wants nothing more than for us to make solid connections amongst us. there is a reason why he is called the "pope of the people" and i think that this will be the ultimate, positive impression that he will leave the american people with when he departs for rome on sunday. and, on the flip-side, i believe that pope francis will also leave america with a positive impression of the american people as a welcoming, attentive people who are full of kind-heartedness, welcoming, open-mindedness and respect. both reinforcing and exceeding his initial expectations. after all, this is what friendship, family, loyalty, leadership and making the world the best place to live in is all about. love you pope francis!! thanks hsn for the commemortive items!!! it is a beautiful gesture and a warm welcome that i am certain pope francis will speak about and hold dear for years to come!! memories to last a lifetime!! love it. stay blessed, my friends. xoxo
I thought in the presentations yesterday it was mentioned that some money was being donated to HSN’s UNICEF Fund by Michael Anthony.
Was I mistaken? Maybe a HSN Manager might read this and comment
I don’t understand all the hype about the Pope’s visit, or the Pope himself. But I’m not Catholic, so that is why I guess I just don’t get it. However, I do understand people looking up to a religious leader, because I look up to Billy Graham. WIth that said, the shopping channels will do anything to make a buck off any person, situation or thing.
Personally, I find it offensive and distasteful all the way around.
But … To each his/ her own.
I think he would be very happy if HSN, the Vendors, the Customers, or anyone, would tithe a portion of their profits/salary to the Vatican… after all, it costs a lot of money to keep them, or any religious organization, going. If everyone took vows of poverty, (i.e. nothing to tithe), the Pope, Cardinals, Bishops, etc. would all be wearing rags and living in the street, *lol*. Rest assured, Capitalism is alive and well as far as the Pope and the Vatican is concerned… it always has been. Why? Because that’s where all those tithes come from.
Anything that promotes awareness of his visit, thus promoting the commercialism that goes along with it, also prompts people to give, and give generously. And that’s always a good thing.
