I was happy both occassions and even happiest when they moved out!
Did you cry at your child’s wedding? Oh hell yes, cried of joy and he was gone forever, lol.
Did you cry at your child’s first child birth? Oh many times a cry of, now let him see what he put me through.

School because they were so young and it was the first time being on their own. That, and it was the first time in awhile for me being alone too.
First day of school, I cried like a baby all day.
College. You realize they have grown up in the blink of an eye and no longer need you like they did when they were younger. I got home and walked around the block crying. One of my neighbors stopped me to see what was wrong. We both had a good cry as her child would be going off the following year.
.it was the first day of school. I cried getting her ready, I cried in the car so much, I could hardly park the car. The director of the daycare, literally had to pull her hand from mine. to Make matters worse, when I got to work, I tried to call, and I dialed the wrong number, and it said the number was disconnected. I upset my whole office; no one could work. Someone got the correct number and dialed it me. Once i had the right number, I called every two hours.
The first day of college was definitely the most difficult for me. I knew that this incredible young woman was taking the first step towards her new life as an adult. I was so proud of her, but I realized that our lives would change. That was ten years ago; we are still very close, but that was the first day of her new life!
Definitely college…my twins (sons) both flew the coop on the same day. It seemed like life ended that day…but they do come home again for visits…it’s never the same again though.
Life is about change, and embracing the changes!
First day of college was Hardest. I could not decide what to do with the spare space I now had!:robotsurprised:
We have 4 boys: 23, 19, 18 & 11. Being super close to all 4, I can say moving the first two off to college was by far more difficult than their first day of school. It is the proverbial kicking each of them out of the nest & knowing they will depend upon everything you’ve instilled into their brains, hard-work, dedication, morality & belief system, etc., & begin their own life’s journey.
I’m so proud of all my sons, but I’m most joyous in watching them become the successful dual leadership roles while away– strong young men, but also kind & thoughtful gentlemen… It tells me we taught them well & cutting that cord for college is okay… They will come back home, but it will be with the memories & stories to share with us of their first steps and roots of the beginning of their own life’s journey.
First day of school was harder! I am a stay at home mom, and after three years everyday with her, to being separated for a few hours for the first time was torture!
