The Dark Days of Fashion
Why is fashion so hideous these days?! The styles of the different clothing I’ve been seeing for the past couple of years is disappointingly UGLY. Everything is big, boxy, uninspired, bland, boring, and just plain unsightly. Have designers given up??
These prints look like microscopic views of some kind of bacteria.
It doesn’t get much more boring than stripes and oversized shirts. It’s as if the designers are thinking, "I have no creativity or talent, and I’ve run out of ideas. So, I’ll just make everything big and striped."
What is this ghastly trend??!! Sleeveless fur carcasses?? Why do we need to walk around looking like we’re wearing the fur pelts of Dr Seuss characters?
What sadistic sinister minded person thought it would be fun to unleash cropped, flared jeans upon us? I guess there is something worse than enormous striped shirts.
We all need to be saved by some benevolent designers who have mercy and taste.
Who thought it would be a good idea to put points and triangles on females’ hips? That pointed style is all over the place and practically on every top. It emphasizes the hip area, and looks ridiculous. Look at all of the icons of classic style. Do you see Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn with points on their hips?
LOL I got the best chuckle reading the posts. We ARE starting to sound exactly like our parents? (WInk) (smile) Oh I remember the uproar over bell bottoms and those nasty blue jeans. God forbid those plaid Elephant pants that were the in thing back then. Styles come and go…….tastes vary. And oh YES I have a Rachael Zoe Fur Vest and it looks quite the bomb paired with the right outfit LOL. To each his/her own. What a sad world if we banned everything our facist future leaders didnt like. I think I served this country for 12 years to supposedly fight that kind of oppression…….maybe it was all a lie and some want this? I dunno Im just gonna continue eating my popcorn and do whatever suits me. LOL. Have a grand day ladies
fur vest, visions of Sonny Bono…..
chimein-I would never wear any of those nasty looking clothes.
So baggy no style and sloppy looking!YUK!
I hope you read my post with some humor because I was being sarcastic, a tone that seems to have skipped over some people. This holier than thou stuff is out of control.
I actually think you are the one who deserves most of the recognition (smiles). At least, you deserve it for creativity and originality. But……you know how it is………Smilegate.
I have my most desirables but I can deal with almost any style except … leggings/ jegging. . To me, the look is unsightly. I consider them as nothing but tights or leotards – Not to be worn outside or in public. I tell my nieces that they are to be worn Under their clothes … not Instead of their clothes.
Chimein, I love your tongue in cheek commentary! I see a couple of people took you too seriously. People get insulted way too easily these days. I also get that your post wasn’t an assault on Hsn’s fashion. That would be too narrow a category. I interpreted your post as an appraisal of the fashion trends in general.
I actually agree with you. I do a lot of online and brick and mortar shopping, and I can see what you are referencing. Designers seem to be in a rut with regard to fashion. I’ve been looking for a spring blazer for the longest time, but only run into solids and those ugly "things that belong under a microsope" prints. All of the blazers I see, even though the blazers are designed by different designers, are all cut exactly alike. And, that seems to be true with other garments as well.
I do not like skin tight and minis I guess its a matter of prefernce:)
I love Atthony fashions They always true to fit 🙂
If you’ve been around long enough, every style and color come back around again. I’m short so those cropped, flared jeans would probably be the right length and I could be transported back into the late 60’s again. Could be but don’t want to be!
Can’t we all just get along?
It might get boring if the whole world was according to your taste. Should we wipe out the plants and animals you don’t like too?
I have seen many garmets and paintings and heard many songs that I do not need to encounter ever again but we are here to express ourselves not judge.
Well I for one can find many pieces of clothing that I like. Yes there are many styles I don’t like but thats me. I’m sure there are things I like that many don’t like. It is a matter of choice. But I have to agree cropped flares and those prints are not to my liking, and as for a fur vest my daughter would disown me if I wore one.
God save me from the short minis that seem to be every designers newest passion….or is it that a few inches off the bottom of a skirt is yards of fabric saved on a large run? It may be inconvenient for some to hems skirt but for those who desire a skirt to come to the top of the knees and have no hem to let out…it’s a deal breaker for that designer after the first experience. Here’s talking to you, Wendy Williams.
As Beauty was, is, and ALWAYS will be, in the eye of the beholder, Fashion has ALWAYS reflected this and run the gamut from the hideous to the sublime. Why this realization should bother anyone is anybody’s guess, *lol*. It’s all just creative expression.
From my personal sense of taste, some fashion statements hit the mark… others don’t. Thus, those things are for others to wear, not me. Just like Jazz music… personally, I can’t stand it, *lol*… but then, it wasn’t created for people like me… it was created for those whose appreciation of it knows no bounds. There’s room for everybody.
As for the ‘dark days of fashion’— while I love dressing-up in my Ren Faire costumes, and playing ‘pretend’ for a weekend, (for they DO make a striking pose, *lol*), trust me, I can’t wait to get home from it all and tear off those hot, sweaty, uncomfortable, and horribly inconvenient Cloaks, Chemises, long Skirts, and tightly-laced Bodices, *lol*. You can count Corsets among the same torturous ‘dark days of fashion’ as well, *lol*.
What’s wrong with you?! I am disturbed by these mean spirited comments. What did these
uglypoor clothes ever do to you? You should not bully pretty challenged clothing like that. And we boring, big shirted people have feelings too. It’s one thing to say you prefer one style over another, but to publicly tear down clothes styles that did you no harm is something else.
My heart can’t take anymore of this defamation. Oh yes, we do need an ignore button!
