Annoying Hosts' Voices
Some of the hosts’ and guests’ voices are like nails on a chalkboard. Please instruct them to speak in a normal tone, without whining or shrill voices, especially the rep from Slinky Brands, Joy Mangano and her assistant Deb. Please tell Adam to stop emoting; his phony personality is grating on my nerves. He oversells EVERYTHING and is difficult to watch with the sound on – same goes for Guy Yovan, Robin Wahl, et al. Shannon Smith must be a hoarder as she “owns” everything she presents. HSN’s credibility is on a downward spiral.

I don’t buy from anyone,on any shopping channel,who screams at me.Class sells.
Tv hosts go to voice coaches to teach them how to keep their voices forward and how to amplify their voices. They are told to use the upper palate and sinus cavities when speaking, which I guess is the reason so many of the hosts have such tinny caterwauling sounding voices. Also, they are told to vary the texture of their voices. This is ‘supposed’ to keep the listener interested and make the host sound more engaging. If you ask me, it sounds really annoying. Bobbi Ray Carter always drops her voice to this “grrrrr” sound every time she presents something. It sounds ridiculous.
Hosts are told to vary their sounds, pitches, and tones so that the voice ‘tells a story’ and we don’t have to think too hard about anything. We in the audience are all idiots, I guess.
So, the annoying voice thing will never change. All of the hosts are told or taught to speak in that obnoxious way. The networks who enforce the practice of this technique aren’t too smart. They don’t seem to realize it’s annoying and insulting.
