Once again, I am reading reviews that some twits left saying “awful fit” without specifying what didn’t fit and how and what their bodies are like!!!!! Who can possibly benefit from a review that says that something did not fit you??? Tell me if it’s too tight or too big in the chest or the tummy and if you are flat chested or got big boobs and if you have big stomach or a flat one!!!!!! Etc. HOW does it not fit?! If it’s too big in the tummy area, that dress is perfect for me. If it’s too taken in at the waist, I cannot ever wear it. If it’s got too much space for the boobs tha’s not a good fit for me, but a great fit for a woman with big boobs. How difficult is it to stop for a second and think about the purpose of these reviews?! Aaaargh.
I so agree Massha. Last night I was starting to write review on a WW peplum shirt. I started with my details and then I couldn’t locate the shirt to say what size I bought so I canceled review. As soon I find the shirt I will go back in & give my body description along with size I purchased so if anyone is my body type they will know which szie fits best.
Again w/ HSN doing away with S/H for VIP itmes I will be buying less & less from especially when it comes to clothing since the size chart they have online would have me ordering a small all the time & that’s for sure is NOT true.
Another question is why do some people give reviews on something when requested by email when they haven’t received the product yet? It really gives you the wrong information to make the purchase…….Ronnie
Excellent reviews! Thanks for sharing…..
massha… If I may, I’d like to post 3 Reviews I wrote, (5*, 3*, and 1*), in the spirit of helping others write better Reviews. If you find this inappropriate, let me know and I will delete the post… no harm/no foul!
We are only allowed 500-Characters , (including spaces), in our Reviews on HSN, (which, to me, is a horrible state of affairs). Amazon, Evine, and the Q are unlimited in how much you write. As such, I write all my Reviews in Microsoft Word so that I can easily keep track of the number of Characters and Edit I as go along.
*5-STAR*– Slinky Metallic Tunic (3/3 Thumbs-Up)
SO HOLIDAY FANCY! I LOVE THIS TUNIC!
I got the Grape, Blue, and Magenta. The COLOURS are rich and vibrant. The Gold Metallic THREAD running through makes them GLAMOROUS without being over-the-top. I wear an XL, (42-D 38-W 44-H), and that’s what I ordered– they fit perfectly. As well, I’m 5’3 and they cover my tush. The drape of the COWL is dramatic and low enough to show-off your jewelry. The LINING makes them NON-SEE-THRU. These are perfect for HOLIDAY FESTIVITIES or a lovely evening out. I highly recommend.
*3-STAR* DG2 Hi-Low Button Sweater (3/3 Thumbs-Up)
I took 2-stars off this Sweater because: 1. It’s way OVERPRICED; 2. The SIZING is way off; and, 3. It is NOTHING like Cashmere! Now then, I bought this sweater for the lovely Chambray Blue COLOUR. The MATERIAL is soft, not scratchy. The DETAILS say ‘Very Loose-Fitting: Designed For 7 Or More Inches Of Ease’. Really? 7-inches bigger than one’s normal size? What’s the matter with you DG? Are you crazy!?! I’m an XL all-day-long, (42-D 38-W 44-H), and had to order a SIZE SMALL to get a proper FIT!
*1-STAR* Adrienne Landau Hooded Kimono (2/2 Thumbs-Up)
A BEAUTIFUL ‘Sizing & Fur-Hook’ HORROR
I’m an XL, (42-D 38-W 44-H). The DETAILS say: Loose-Fitting: 4 To 6 Inches Of Ease’. This means ‘Order the M/L’, which I did; and I’m SWIMMING in this thing! I measured the WIDTH, (Underarm-To-Underarm)– it’s 28"! With my 42-Bust, I wear a 21" Width– the XS/S Size wouldn’t even fit me! The LENGTH is 33"-Front, 37"-Back. The SLEEVE, 25". The FUR HOOKS are ATROCIOUS, (far too SMALL), making it a ridiculous hassle to fasten! I couldn’t send these HORRORS back fast enough! Waste of time & money!
Thank you for this thread. Much has already been said, so I’ll just add these ideas:
Premise: Having to read dozens of rewiews to find out just one thing, is discouraging and too time consuming.
When jeans/leggings etc. come in a variety of lengths, IE: Tall, Petite, etc. The supposed lengths for those categories are listed in the "Details" section: Tall 32in., but we all know that often the descriptions are not what we actually get! ha!
So I always appreciate reviews that say: I’m 5"10" or what ever and wear a size 6, and these leggings were 1-2 inches too short on me. Or the leggings were long enough for me to wear heels etc….then I know the product is "running short or running longer" than advertised. My gratitude to the reviewer/reviewers.
Many sites have an "Overall Review Graph that reflects the number of purchasers who say the item seemed: Too long, Too short, and other specifics. If An item is "running short" It is pointless and a waste of time for me to purchase it, not matter how otherwise wonderful the product is reviewed.
Also, a Graph could refect how many purchasers, for example: 56 out of 75 reviewers, found it, "Bigger/wider/ baggier than expected", too. It leaves me to decide if I want to research the reviews further etc.
I ALWAYS read reviews before I purchase, but it can be grueling to ferret out, the one or two major factors that will determine if the item even qualifies as a suitable buy for me.
Maybe there should be specific response columns for each catagory:
Misses,Missus Petite, Missus Plus, Misses Tall, Plus Tall…wow! would that be a gift of time saving!! I like this idea best, and would give me hours back, and move me to purchases more swiftly….no more reading of reviews that are not specific to my basic requirements.
Specific review categories, when appropriate for the product, would be heaven!!
Agree 100%. Hardly anyone gives measurements and the size they order. If I like the garment enough I may give it a go. If I’m in the mood to pay return shipping I will.
Once I thought about trying a pair of DG2 jeans. There was an upcoming TS and I looked at Suzanne’s facebook page. She told customers to size down from your regular DG2 size. Well, I don’t have a regular DG2 size. Why doesn’t she just do the normal sizes. In her comparison pictures she puts her size 12 against a normal size 12 and that’s not right.
massha, thank you for the Thread. My suggestion, instead of TIPS given from Hsn when writing a review, it would be possible to create a Form for Customers when filling out a Review. Basic ‘necessary’ questions (the Description page, has info. that culd be used to create a ‘General Template’ of questions) for each category of items. A question doesn’t have to be answered but having it in the form, likely the Customer would be willing to complete the answers. Lastly, a space for additional comments.
Also, a Nice Feature is to let Customers ask questions on the Review page to those who have purchased the product, as is done on other shopping sites. I find it to be a very helpful feature. My experience has been: the info. I am looking for that I didn’t see in a Review, customers are eager to help. 🙂
I rarely write a review on anything. Recently I purchased Heidi Daus (my first purchase) bangles and bracelet combo. I returned it. It was absolutely beautiful, I ordered medium/large but they were way too small for me, and the bangles were an oval shape and not round like most bangles so they really didn’t fit properly.
I can’t fault the product, didn’t know the bangles were more oval shape and that the size wouldn’t be big enough, but the actual product itself was lovely. I have other bangles that fit properly so no big deal. I really can’t write a review on this because I do not know if the bangles were flawed, or it was the design, can’t review the size either, maybe I just have fat wrists, but the workmanship was pretty good. I rarely read long winded reviews, unless the person reviewing is experienced or knowledgeable in that particular product, usually techno stuff and media equipment which is often the case on Amazon.
Monday, January 4-2015… Great Thread, massha! I agree completely. Unfortunately, we’re only allowed to ‘Thumbs Up’ or ‘Thumbs Down’ a Review here at HSN. And believe me, I ‘Thumbs Down’ plenty!
Over at Amazon, we’re allowed to actually ‘Comment’ on a Review. And I comment plenty! *lol* If your Review consists of ‘Love it!’ et al, boy, do I get on you about it.
I happen to write great Reviews, if I do say so myself, *lol*. Over at Amazon, I get a lot of compliments for my Reviews. Just last week, a man wrote and said Carhartt should give me a commission because his wife, after reading my Review, bought 6 of the item! *lol*
If I write a Review on clothing, here on HSN, I always give my Meausrements. And also give the ‘Details’ of the garment, such as—> ‘Loose Fitting: 3-4" of Ease’ and then comment as to whether or not those ‘Details’ are accurate.
I do this in the spirit of being ‘helpful’ to others… so they can make an ‘informed’ decision as to whether the product will work for them… or not. Just as I hate to pay for Return Shipping, I don’t wish others to have to pay for it either.
Writing a good Review can make all the difference in one being able to purchase confidently.
HSN shoppers aren’t exactly the brightest stars in the sky.
I should also mention the item was tight around the tush.
I don’t let HSN dictate to me when to write a review. They are always there to review in my order summary waiting. But I agree that people don’t think people read them, and that people don’t know what to put in them. Just saying it was good or bad seems to be enough. And I think they look at what others write and use that as an example.
Happy New Year! :smileyhappy: massha, U got me AT MY ! I’m 48yrs 4’8 92lbs 34c/23/34-(surg post mena ER 39). ALWAYS ADD MY MEAS TO BE HELPFUL B/C I SO RELY ON OTHERS’ INPUT!!! Well, thanks for reading/hearing my rant! :womanhappy: BEEN WANTING TO GET THIS OFF MY CHEST FOR MONTHS! LOL LOL SORRY SO LONG…..
I’ve read many reviews based on HSN or even the delivery service, rather than the product. I also don’t understand how anyone can write an accurate review before really using or wearing the item/product long enough to find out if it truly is a five star or less. So if it’s the T.S. and you know everyone wants to be the first to post their review as soon as the open the package… Really? How do even know? Also, using ‘bust’ is usually a safe term that I use, but whatever, as long as it helps others. Good or bad most reviews are helpful to me, some truthful bad reviews are great, because if you hate it, it may be just what i’m looking for, like descriptions of lightweight or thin fabrics, that’s what I always go for. Just my thoughts.
Unless you received something for free…you are most likely to complain.
More people will come here and complain compared to those who are satisfied.JMHO
