Tracfone text problem with spam
Purchased a tracfone here about a year ago and had not used it much. About a month ago found that some spam came to the phone over a couple of days from a sender mostly indicated as post_master or postmaster and was obviously spam by the message. I had not even given the phone number to anyone so not even sure how they got through to me other than some programmed robo calling. But hundreds coming in in little more than a couple of hours ran through all my available text allotment.
Tracfone said nothing they can do. I have another recent tracfone purchase here a month ago that I have not activated but worried about using this service
Anyway, any ideas or anyone else with similar problem. Scared to give up the ol’ AT&T phone and only having tracfone…though I guess this could have happen with them but that plan is unlimited so just weighing pros/cons and trying to see what the H happen!
As an aside, I did try to run search here in the community but the search block does not work for me (guess I am batting a thousand:)! oh well
And thanks in advance for any assistance from you ‘tracfone veterans’
This is happening with all cell phone providers not only tracfone. My friend who uses AT&T had to change her number last week because of all the spam callers. I’m have been getting it too on my so called private landline.
To @labchocolate you can call tracfone and they will change your number. But I find “blocking”
works best, eventually it stops. it is annoying! 🙂
I had several unwanted calls & texts coming in on my Tracfone, so I had to change my number, not once, but twice. Even now, I still get several unwanted calls a month. It is annoying, because, like the OP, I only use my phone occasionally.
Regarding the advice of clicking on the 3 dots, the calls keep coming from different numbers, so they can always get through. These days, you never know who is actually calling you, because the creepy callers can make it seem like they’re calling from a hospital, doctor, or any other business from which you may be more likely to accept a call. And you never even know if the call is from this country, even though it may have a local area code. I never answer the phone unless it’s from a friend or family member. Too many scams out there. If a call is truly important, they will leave a message.
One thing you can do is go to your text list and click on the 3 dots (or bars) at the top of the screen and you can mark them as spam which should stop anything new texts from coming. Be very careful before giving up your AT&T plan if you use data or text pictures on a regular basis. You will use your Tracphone allotment up very quickly.
