There goes the neighborhood…
Looks like choice for consumers is being lessened as QVC is buying HSN. I like both for different product/reasons and yet don’t want to see this acquisition as it ultimately gives us less choice.

QVC has Free shipping on top brands 7/11/17. QVC had free shipping on EVERYTHING on Sunday, July 9th. i think both are a good sign.
Most apt post title!
This makes me very sad. I shopped QVC for years, until HSN and (then Value Vision came on my TV. QVC, as others have noted, originally had some good products and vendors, but their offerings now pale next to HSN and Evine. The jewelry and fashions are uninspired and overpriced. I rarely watch today, but when I do it’s always the same pair of khaki pants or sad t-shirt. The jewelry is overpriced and rarely discounted. Do they ever offer free shipping? And the younger hosts have voices I find challenging.
If HSN is QVC-afied I sadly will no longer watch or shop. I’ll give it a chance, but if there are drastic changes, if beloved vendors (Nicky Butler, Joan Boyce, Real Collectibles) or hosts (looking at you, wonderful Shivan and sweet Bill Green) leave, that’s probably it for me after 23 years of major shopping. At least we have Evine…
I agree. I don’t like the idea of QVC buying HSN. I started out on QVC but have shopped less and less there the past few years. They were great in the beginning but have become less of what they say QVC stands for. They don’t have flexipay and their prices are ridicules. Not crazy about the newer hosts and therefore don’t watch it on tv hardly at all. If they change the way HSN is now I will have to say adios. Not a happy camper.
Amazing how some of these replies could come from both avid QVC and HSN shoppers alike! If it were not for Louis Dell Olio and his Linea line, I would probably never darken the Q door again. Their Customer Service has always been good to me. Unlike the warehouse, where most of my orders live in “Process Land” for two or three days. I joke that maybe HSN can teach QVC to run their warehouses and shipping more efficiently. For me, returns at HSN are handled very quickly, unlike QVC, where it may take 10 days to 14 days for my refund to be processed. Free shipping is more the norm at HSN where at the Q it is practically non-existent. Q clearance prices are a joke compared to HSN.
On the other hand, when I purchase from HSN, my orders ship out by the next day and I usually get them in three days, compared to 5-7 days from the Q. My purchases from HSN are mainly SCA and PRAI.
Once I discovered 11 years ago Louis Dell Olio and his Linea line on QVC I never turned back to HSN for clothing needs. Unfortunately The Q made it harder to purchase clothing because of their shipping policy on returns. It can cost $11 just to try something for sizing or whatever. That is totally unacceptable. Luckily, I know my size in Linea and that helps a lot.
I too, have very mixed emotions about this so called “merger”. I feel some one at the top is going to get more wealthy at the expense of the bread and butter of the company: the customer.
This explains the departure of Mindy Grossman. 😞
I also see a lot of product lines down to the bare bones. 😭
I want a pair of slippers for the summer by Foot Petals. They do not have it available. This is unusual.
Emma Fox purses has very few SKUS in the line. 👜
Yellow Box has very few choices in their line. After I asked if this is as good as it gets for Yellow Box this summer, I was told YB would have more choices available this month. It seems more like an after thought because of the question. HSN always has more YB available in the summer than what is currently in stock. 👡
HSN is not replenishing stock like normal. When a merger is in the works, it is always obvious in the inventory. As a former buyer, who also went through a merger, I noticed inventory reductions several weeks ago. 🙆
I grew up watching my mom shop HSN. She had the UPS men trained where she wanted the boxes left in the house. In return, she provided them with coffee, soda, water, cake, cookies, etc. She loved Bob. 💝
When I was injured, HSN became my go to because clicking is easier than the hassle of going to stores in pain. My favorite is Bill. He could sell me a heater in the dessert, and I would not regret it. Love you, Bill. 🙂 💖
As a person who lost her job because of a merger, I pray this merger does not go through. They always bring in their own people and keep a few of the existing employees. Most of the time the employees they do keep, it is to extract information /knowledge. When they get all the needed information, they dump the employee.
Skittles, I am so sorry about your job. Yes, all too often they say companies will remain separate and as you found out, it rarely happens. Mike George stated they will combine some areas which will result in staff reductions.
You are kind person with a beautiful heart. 💝👼🌹
Blessings in Abundance to you. 💞
Thank you, Skittles!
I had to log on 15 different ways to get on this st*p^d thing. Do I have to go through the back e*d of qvc to post a comment here now too?
I think it stinks! This is what’s happening all over the country and around the globe, companies gobbling other companies. We seem to be building monopolies again. I wish there was a way to reincarnate Teddy Roosevelt so he could bust up these ‘mergers’ and monopolies. There’s no competition anymore. Prices soar and the consumer gets it in the e*d. My question is: What will happen when the U.S. is sold to china?

I prefer HSN. QVC has gotten so high lately and they have raised their shipping costs again. They offer no coupons (like HSN and Evine) and very litte QVC stuff is free shipping. I am really saddened by this. I depend on the coupons from HSN and Evine since I am on a fixed income and can get more for my money. I hope they leave the same hosts on HSN.
Each entity will operate exactly as it has in the past. QVC will stay the same and HSN will stay the same. It wouldn’t make any business sense at all to change HSN to QVC. Each business model works well and all their vendors will continue in the same place. So, just relax.

I too am disappointed. There aren’t many deals to be had at QVC, and since they bought Zulily prices have risen there. This isn’t good news for HSN customers.
QVC has three network stations now, QVC, QVC 2 and Beauty IQ. They will probably keep the network, but combine warehouses and phone centers, to cut costs.
What I meant by saying “two” is combining the two similar businesses along with all of their smaller channels – QVCLive, QVC2, BeautyIQ, HSNLive, and HSN2 all under the same corporate umbrella. I believe they will keep some separate and combine some. We might see some of HSN’S beauty vendors on Beauty IQ. By the way, I love BeautyIQ and have bought some fabulous products.
I wonder how long they can keep both channels separate. As others pointed out, it looks good on paper but previous corporate acquisitions/mergers/takeovers point to combining the two. Granted, QVC kept Zulilly separate but that’s an entirely different buying experience. I understand why some believe this is a merger since many news outlets are calling it the same. I found this article on the Washington Post (I can’t post link) regarding the news.
“In a letter to employees, QVC chief executive Mike George, who will lead the new company, said the combination should be able to generate between $75 million to $110 million in annual cost reductions within the next three to five years, and that money would be used to fund new innovations.”
Here’s the part that caught my attention-
“We will be able to operate more efficiently, by combining technology platforms where appropriate, leveraging our joint service and supply chain networks, eliminate redundant corporate and support services, and negotiating volume based discounts with our partners.”
“George warned , however, that there would probably be’ headcount reductions as we address areas of overlap, which will likely affect both companies.'”
I look forward to volume based discounts but have empathy for those who might be without a job.
The same company -Liberty Interactive Media- will own both QVC and HSN will remain stand-alone brands .
QVC and HSN will continue to operate as individual brands, “with their own unique identity, culture and customer following,” as stated by Liberty’s press release .
Liberty Interactive Media also owns Zuilily
Last evening when I couldn’t sleep I researched both companies. QVC had so much more revenue due to the fact they have QVC Global in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Japan and China and Canada, but HSN leads QVC in sales in the USA. I said in a previous comment many big vendors like Diane Gilman, Marla Wynne , Heidi Daus, Lancome etc. and many many more sell their items on QVC in these European, Asian, and other countries ( and of course Canada). Thats how they all have multi, multi million dollar businesses now. Liberty bought over a third of HSN back in the 1990’s anyway. I still hate big monopolies anyway as that doesn’t benefit consumers ever, competition does. For now I assume HSN’s format will remain the same as they generate more US revenue of the two and QVC might benefit by adopting some of HSN’s policies. They both have been losing revenue in the last couple of years and need to figure out how to make the core customer of each network happy so all of us will continue to shop both of the entities. In the meantime there is no reason to be concerned. Large companies don’t always make changes that quickly and need to be careful how they do it so it doesn’t become one large failure. Everyone have a great weekend and enjoy shopping!😀
Well said JADiva. Both the Q and Hsn have different audiences and styles. These are not likely to change. Why would they each risk losing their shoppers? The pizza hut/taco bell example is a good one. As is the same parent company owns Outback Steakhouse, Carrabas’s Italian, Bonefish Grill and Fleming’s Steakhouse. HSN’ parent already owned a number of other catalog and online “companies”, and QVC’s parent company purchased Zulily.. All are different even if the parents are the same, like children. 🙂 I assume they will change things up a bit, but that’s ok! I say bring on the sales and discounts!
JaDiva has that full moon been keeping you up too! We have missed you on the Heidi thread the past few days.
Thanks for posting that info. I had noticed that some HSN vendors were on QVC in other countries and figured something like this was going on.
Mooncat3 I actually decided to skip this TSV for Heidi. I have more jewelry than I can possibly wear in this lifetime. I have like 600 Heidi Pieces alone. I need to stop buying for now. I have no one to leave it all too, my nieces are more conservative than I am and only like my smaller jewelry pieces, not my Heidi statement jewelry. I adore it all though.
JADiva you are in luck, I just came up for adoption 😉
Long life and good health my friend!
JADiva, just a thought on your comment of no one to leave your jewelry to. I have a similar situation although I don’t have much really nice jewelry. You might check out some of the charities in your area. Some of them run things like silent auctions to raise money. Your Heidi pieces would be perfect for that.
Lizzie818, that is a great suggestion. I am only 59 and in good health so far thank god. I hope
I still have many years to enjoy my stuff and my grand nieces may want it.
Kinda hard for me to pick sides here because the very first time I tried to order from HSN about 2 years ago they canceled my order and blocked my account!! Have had no problems with QVC yet although I will strongly admit I prefer what HSN sells over QVC. They have the better brands and honestly I really only like QVC for kitchen items. So I guess I’m the only one that’s thinking with this merge I can finally buy some amazing things from HSN.
And yes QVC’s clothes are hideous! I avoid the channel every Monday because I can’t deal with that!
