THE SANTA ROSA CALIFORNIA WILD FIRES
Hello HSN community. I want to reach out to you regarding the Santa Rosa disaster. My husband and I were called suddenly by the police department at 1:30 A. M on October 8, telling us to evacuate IMMEDIATELY because of the fire encroaching into our neighborhood. We put stuff into suitcases, expecting to be evacuated for maybe 2 days. The winds at that time were at or about 70 mph and we didn’t realize the urgency or the immediacy of the danger before us.
We went to a shelter to get more information. Within hours, we learned that our house and our neighborhood had burned to the ground. We went numb – we left everything behind including my HSN jewelry and all the purchases from HSN as well as all our furnishings and a car in the garage.
We spent 4 days in a shelter and left because of the smoke that surrounded the city. We were able to take my Mother with us to San Francisco and continue to stay until further notice.
If you would like to contribute to this catastrophe, please give to the Red Cross, as there are many homeless people because of this devastation.
Sylvi601, so sorry to hear of your tremendous loss. It’s very scary and I’m glad you got out in time.
So glad You heard from your Friend @pookie. As bad as those fires were that went through those Cali areas; Your friend is so Blessed to report his Family & House are okay. Cherie likes your Philosophy and agrees with your advice …
Finally heard from my friend in Santa Rosa. He is okay, his family is okay, his house is okay, but his City and his neighborhood are gone. This has been a terrible year, in so many ways, we should all be thankful for what we have and what we have not lost. Sylvi, it’s going to take some time but things will get better. gams5th, get some help.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help and please post updates. Hugs
I am so, so sorry Sylvi. Thank God you and your husband and Mother are safe. Please take care of yourself.♥
I posted this prayer on the California Prayer Thread. I am now praying for you.
I know how you feel my daughter was affected by Hurricane Irma.
You will rebuild I have added you to my prayer list and believe I use it.
God Bless You.♥ Please take care of yourself.
Sheba2011 Thank you for your prayers. I do feel His presence, He is sustaining me – I know He holds my future and I look forward to my new beginning.
Holy One, you are our comfort and strength
in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos.
Surround us now with your grace and peace
through storm or earthquake, fire or flood.
By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen,
sustain those who work to rescue or rebuild,
and fill us with the hope of your new creation;
through Jesus Christ, our rock and redeemer.
Sylvi I’m so relieved you and your family are safe!
This has been such a devastating week for so many here in Ca. As I type I struggle for words w/ any meaning to comfort you. My prayers have been with you since your last post from the shelter.
I donated quite a bit last week but I do have more I can share.
If you have any specific requests I can do my best to help fulfill them, if you are comfortable to post them here. I’m in the county below your old home and a size 6 more or less…have some things in 8.
I’m sure the shock comes in waves and is strange to navigate. Many are eager to help. There are some local websites that have gone up to support the needs of the victims and shelters too.
You CAN apply for aid via the Federal Disaster Fund. There may be other funds too. I know the County is scrambling to work out housing solutions. Until the smoke has cleared, I’m glad you are in SF. Yesterday is the first day I opened a window since this started.
Aside from Red Cross which has varied opinions of… there is GO FUND ME. They do verify each profile. Money goes straight where the need is. There is a general fund for Sonoma County Fire victims as well as individuals.
Also while airbandb has some free listings, people can also pay for another to have shelter at an airbandb. Many shelters are also asking for GIFT CARDS so people can get exactly what is needed.
Sending you a hug and know that it will all be okay and you will be stronger on the other side of all of this.
mooncat3 Thank you for your generosity and suggestions. Our insurance is covering all the essential expenses, they’re looking for temporary housing and hotel accommodations. We are so grateful.
I’m sorry that you were affected and hope that you are well. That smoke was the worst.
fbn135 thank you – we do have great memories and we are creating more. I’m glad to have the community’s support at this time. I know things will get better – they’re better today than a week ago and there is a silver lining ahead.
Oh Sylvi I am so sad to hear this and my heart is breaking for your family. I have been looking for your avatar since you told us you evacuated. This is just devastating news. I have been thinking about you all week. I have been through the rebuilding process due to a hurricane and as hopeless as it seems now, you will get through it. My thoughts and continued prayers are with you. ♡
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. We are in a hotel in San Francisco and may be here until the end of the month until they find temporary permanent housing.
It’s smokey here too, but not as bad as Santa Rosa.
@sylvi601 …. Cherie is Very Grateful to learn you were able to get out with Your lives. Only Tears can be shed … to take the place of words that can not be found to imagine Your Loss. A request for donations to the Red Cross …. Consider it done …. ALL The BEST TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
Thank you for your kind words.
