So how will HSN.com stack up against Amazon and other online merchants??
I am an Amazon prime member and have been their customer for over 8 years. Amazing service, Super fast shipping and the online ordering experience is slick and efficient. Now why do I say that on the HSN site?
A few months ago I wanted to order a teeter hangup and HSN had the best deal on them. I created an account and provided all my information including my credit card information and went through the checkout process. All cool so far. Now when i placed the order, the website said ‘unable to process the order’!! I checked all the details everything seemed right. Credit card was good, Amazon was sending me tons of stuff on the same credit card!
So, I called the number on the site. After 15 minutes I was informed that I had a ‘Bad Address!!". It took me a while to figure out what that means. It means someone ordered something from this address and did not pay for it. I bought this house 2 years ago. So now I am stuck with a ‘Bad Address’! The customer representative on the phone told me that they are going to escalate this. It takes 7-10 business days!!! That was a few months ago! I also forgot about it. Teeter is not really a ‘Need’ item for me!!
Fast forward to now. HSN still has the best deal on teeters and I still feel I should get one. So I go back this time thinking the ‘Bad address’ problem is probably fixed by now. So I tried ordering again online! and you guessed it ‘unable to porcess the order’!
So I call the number again. But I am better prepared this time. I know I have the ‘Bad address’!! So I call and tell the lady that I have a bad address and it is not fixed yet! She was a sweetheart! She really wanted to fix this. Infact I would say that all the 3 people I have spoken to were very nice and gracious. They just were not equipped to solve the issue. Sharon worked hard at my problem. She could not locate my account!! I gave her my email address, my first name and last name! No luck!! She could not locate it with my credit card number either. And the interesting thing is that all this information is there on the HSN.com site. So I guessed they are not linked and are separate systems. She then escalated to the leadership and after 20 minutes and a lot of thanks for my patience I was transferred to the HSN.com representative who had to be given the same information all over again. I told her that this is a ‘Bad Address’ problem! Even she could not locate my account. And now after 35 minutes, I just hung up the phone with no order placed yet! She says it will take 7-10 business days. They are under federal guidelines on this.
Teeter is not really something I want to have to fight for so much. I can order this from Amazon for a few bucks more. I can choose not to have it at all. As I think aloud, who is really the loser here?? Is it not HSN? and will they be able to keep up with the Amazons of the world!! I think NOT!! At least in my teeter depraved mind right now!!!
So Sorry to hear this !!! i LOVE LOVE HSN an there products..an there Customer Service is right on the Ball..
So sorry to hear that.
I’ve only been shopping with Amazon for about a year but I can honestly say I’ve had more problems with Amazon suppliers in that one year than I’ve ever had with HSN and I’ve been shopping with HSN since the nineties.
Perhaps Amazon Prime is different (not quite sure what that means) but I have found service from some of Amazon suppliers has been non existent at times. I’ve made a list of companies on the Amazon site never to deal with again.
There are pros and cons. I’m also an Amazon prime member, and I love the 2-day free shipping, but I love HSN’s flexpay. You can’t beat that.
For now, HSN has things I cannot get on Amazon, and they also have in many cases a better description and in many cases, a video demonstration. They also have clearance sales and price adjustments which you don’t usually get on Amazon.
Now, naturally, it depends on what I am buying. Jewelry or clothes – I’d say, 95% of my stuff is and hopefully, will be, bought on HSN.
Electronics, on the other hand, will be bought where they are the best combination of features and price, which may or may not happen to be Amazon or NewEgg, but almost never HSN. When I say "almost" – I mean, maybe one day I will buy something, but I have not bought anything yet. Oh wait. Yes I did. that little scanner thing.
One thing on Amazon that HSN does not have but it should is Yizzam shirts and other items. They custom print an actual piece of art onto an item of clothes, as well as tons of other images. Any older art that’s in public domain; and they have pictures of places and animals that they own. I have a couple of their fabulous shirts and love them. They also: have items up to 4X!!! and even their t-shirts are dressy thinner poly shirts not the casual beefy cotton for the gym. I wish HSN would feature them.
Of course, Amazon is quite amazing if you need to send gifts to Europe. Since they have European warehouses, your S&H is pretty much the same as here! So, if I want to get something off HSN for somebody in say, Germany, I will buy it, pay local US S&H to have it delivered, then schlep ot to the postal office, pay A LOT in International postage to send it to Germany, then the recipient will probably slapped with customs fees too. If I order something for them through Amazon, I pay the *local German* S&H to have it delivered to them.
I thought it was always that way at the Q? If you sent something back because of a Q error or a defect…they refunded both Original SH and didn’t charge for Return Shipping. If you returned things to the Q just because you didn’t like something, you always paid for SH and Return shipping.
Coud be I’m not understanding your post…?
That Q channel, today Wednesday all day, has 4 or more Easy Pay on EVERYTHING!
If you have a Wish List……..
BUT, BUT, BUT I spotted this on an invoice that just arrived (Q channel invoice);
"Important! Refunds placed on or after 02/17/15 will NO LONGER include original S&H for returns that are not due to Q** error or item defects."
Wow…if you just don’t like an item you will pay shipping on both ends of the order! Shop ultra careful!!!
I’m an Amazon Prime member. Over a month ago I ordered some special detergent, dog treats and plastic bags. The detergent leaked so I refused delivery per Amazon’s instructions. They advised me to reorder the items and when the refused box reached their warehouse they would credit my credit card. Well, my account was never credited and there was no notation that the package was returned in my account status. I called them last week and was promised that the account would be credited in a few days. Still no credit. Called them yet again and was promised the same. I’m so tired of calling about this so my next call will be to my credit card. This is not a typical occurrance with Amazon.
As far as HSN goes, I’ve always had great Customer Service and in almost 15 years I’ve only had two instances where a returned item wasn’t credited. As soon as I called with the tracking number my account was credited and I could see that it was credited in my account status. Between Flex Pay, exemplary CS and the unique vendors I prefer HSN.
Geez…I feel for you. What a disappointment. I’ve not had that problem with HSN, but quite honestly as you…I do check prices between companies, mainly the online shopping channels against Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond, eBay, etc. before ordering. I haven’t been at HSN that long, so can only speak for the ‘other’ shopping channel re pricing. I do tend to err on the side of Amazon when pricing is close because, as you know… Prime Member shipping is free..almost instantaneous… and I’ve never been charged for returns. Come to think of it, I haven’t returned much of anything to them either!
This is not to say that I don’t like HSN. I do enjoy it here. However flex pay for me isn’t a draw, unless a large item that I don’t feel like paying upfront for, and have in fact purchased larger items but at the ‘other’ channel, simply because I hadn’t been to HSN.
Like you…I factor in shipping/handling and return charges before making a decision, not to mention that you’re paying monthly interest on a credit card that isn’t paid in full each month. So, as you know…to beat the ‘interest’ system, if not ipaying all your credit card flex pays in full…are still paying interest!! My feeling is that if I can’t buy my clothing upfront, then I’m wearing things I either can’t afford, are in excess of what I need..or are things I don’t even own…but that’s just my take.
That said…I think the problem you’ve had isn’t systemic within HSN. Again, I’ve never had a problem either with ordering or with returns. The customer service is pristine, and in fact have found refunds to be lightening fast vs. the ‘other’ shopping channel. I’m always amazed that I receive an email that HSN has notice that my package is in the mail…and then see a refund pop up in my account a day or two later.
So I guess what I’m saying, is that once your account is cleared up (which it most definitely will be)…I’m sure you’ll experience a great order-shipping-arrival of your products. You seem like a savvy shopper who weighs pros and cons of each purchase and am sure if you should decide to order here…will be just as satisfied!! As a new customer, I’ve not ordered that much, but love everything I have :smileyhappy:
I like having things I’m interested in demonstrated, like to see how to use things.Amazon doesn’t do that.
DeepColour… I think Amazon and HSN are horses of a different colour… no pun intended! *lol*
The advantage of HSN is their Flex-Pay program, and also the various vendors and their products. I like seeing the products I’m interested in modeled for me. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I like seeing the fashions, jewelry, electronics, etc. and having their virtues explained to me.
I, too, am an Amazon Prime member and love them. As far as I’m concerned, they have the best Customer Service on the planet, bar none. Their prices are great and their shipping is unsurpassed. With all this, I agree with you. BUT, you better show-up with the purchase price cash-in-hand, cuz they don’t have the kind of Flex-Pay program HSN does.
And that spells the big difference between the two. For the things that HSN sells, I like being able to stretch-out my payments. I can take advantage of this program and purchase so many more things than I could if I had to pay the full purchase price for each one on-the-spot.
I, too, had a probelm with my account last year, and had to run around, like you, to get it escalated. The Leadership Team finally got it all resolved to everyone’s mutal satisfaction, but it was a stressful hassle while it was going on. This is something that HSN has to improve, and I believe they will. But they aren’t the monstrosity Amazon is, so, it’s slow-going.
I trust HSN will get it all worked-out for you. So, keep the faith! *lol* HSN has a lot to offer. They aren’t end-all/be-all answer to our consumerism, but then, no one retailer is. They all have their advantages and disadvantages.
Hi DeepColour, I’m so sorry for the inconvenience you’ve experienced trying to order with us. I checked the information in our system, and see that we are working to have the address cleared for you and will be contacting you soon. I understand that is is frustrating and hope you will continue to shop with us when we have fixed the issue.
