Nod to Americana
I watched Colleen Lopez introduce the Nation LTD brand tonight. She raved with the manufacturer about the cuteness of the flag inspired attire. She mentioned Dianne Gilman’s jeans and said this program is a “nod to Americana.” Unfortunately, NONE of the brands are manufactured in the USA! Incredibly, the foreign made shirts of Nation LTD were at a special “reduced price” of $59.95: for a cotton/poly shirt that was unremarkable. Isn’t that the reason manufacturers state they are making clothing outside the USA, to save consumers money??! Hey HSN, how about devoting one of Colleen’s Thursday night programs to American manufactured items? I don’t mind paying extra $ for quality American made products. I’m sure other customers would also like to stimulate our economy and create American jobs. HSN Community, am I wrong?
In a word, yes, you are wrong. While many people say they wish to buy American, the fact is most people are not willing to pay a premium for it. If they were, there would be more American-made products available.
For instance, people buy thousands of sets of Wolfgang Puck cookware (a good product), but choose this cookware rather than pay a premium for All-Clad. This applies to cookware, appliances, etc.,
For those truly willing to pay a premium, the best option is to search online. There are websites devoted to American-made products, but most people will continue to ignore those and go to sites where they can get the greatest bang for their buck.
People want the most for their money.Thats the bottom line. However it does annoy me for places to push Americana products that are made in China, etc, etc.and especially when they attach a premium price to it as if it is very high quality.
