Merger HSN & QVC in 2.1B $ deal
I think I hit send too quickly… SO, where is the convo on this? Sales are down 3% per the Times… The Wall Street Journal said that ecommerce is so competitive now with Walmart (no thank you!) and Amazon (yes please) free, expedited shipping. If nothing else, maybe our shipping costs will be greatly reduced and more on point with the rest of online retailers. I imagine vendors are hotter than ! If it drives up sales though….
Excuse me hvl_lady but my phone company still gives me a copy of the white pages and one copy of the yellow pages. Only cell phones don’t have books.
Yes, QVC acquired HSN. I think it’s a good thing.
Why the harsh tone though hvl_lady?! “I bet you have a cell phone and haven’t even noticed that the telephone company doesn’t provide White Pages anymore.” Who was that directed at!?
It is an Acquisition not a Merger. Everything changes. Look in the mirror.
L;’Oreal bought Maybelline about ten years ago and Maybelline has never been better. L’Oreal also bought IT Cosmetics recently which I use and love. And among other companies L’Oreal owns Lancome. Stop making this a catastrophe like “Reality TV” Acquisitions have been going on for over one hundred years. Decades ago General Foods, which started as Post Cereals, bought Phillip Morris. It wasn’t to slip some corn flakes into cigarettes. It was probably an agricultural thread, an opportunity to own fields of tobacco along with their fields of corn. These companies are all survived the “change,”
I’ll bet you have a cell phone and haven’t even noticed that the telephone company doesn’t provide White Pages any more. The world is changing. It always has been and always will. If you hate change, then drag out your Sear Catalog and start making your wish list because Christmas is less than six months away.
I embrace change and always look for the positive. However, acquisitions or mergers can result in lower quality products. For example, many claim Philosophy changed their formulas after being bought and it wasn’t better. I love It Cosmetics but notice changes with some of the products since being sold. Mally Beauty was another favorite of mine until Mally’s company was acquired and formulas changed. Hostess Is another example. New buyers tweaked recipes and sell smaller portions. Change can be good, but I think people are fearful of the negative trickle down effects of an acquisition or merger. In addition, media and some press releases call this a merger. Really read what’s out there. Change is coming. Just my opinion.
Thetracybear – I don’t know. Initially I thought it would mean one network. That makes sense, less ‘overhead’, less production costs, less AIRTIME costs, etc. But sales would certainly be dramatically reduced as there are only 24 hours in a day. I expect they’ll consolidate to one channel, but could be wrong.
Very true unterderlateme! They’ll just tack it on to the pricepoint.
As a consumer, as someone who shops a lot from HSN and QVC and Amazon…. I do believe we are are all, well I’ll just say I am ultimately responsible. When I hear that 39 more Sears stores are closing nationwide, I know that my own line spending habits over the last 5 + years are responsible.
I saw something on it earlier, but am not sure what it will mean, but I do like the idea of them finally doing away with shipping, free shipping is almost standard everywhere else now.
Remember there is no free lunch ! You will absorb the shipping cost one way or another !
This merger will have a few hosts fired . some of the older ones probably will be asked to retire.
It will be very interesting and sad too !
I had noticed that the stock price was slowly eroding , but had not researched it since I did not own this particular stock.
The vendors must be worried too . Hard times ahead for many, I am sure
How everything is changing and not necessarily for the better .
One just does not know what tomorrow will bring !
i am worried about this merger I love HSN just the way they are and I also buy from QVC. Each are very different and that’s what I like.
