Laminate Floor Nightmare
Did anyone see last Sunday’s 60 Minutes segment about Lumber Liquidator’s Chinese laminate floors not meeting CA regulatory standards for formaldehyde? Apparently, when tested, several boxes of flooring had up to a staggering 20 times the amount of "acceptable" formaldehyde. Especially not good for children living in homes with these floors. A large class action lawsuit has been filed. I have a friend whose husband installed this flooring and now he’s pulling it up himself. They can’t afford to replace it right now and will be living with concrete floors but it’s better than the alternative.
I guess it is safe to say that no matter what we are purchasing, it does matter where it is made. We have to do our homework before buying anything it seems.
I didn’t see the 60 Minutes story but I heard about it on the news today…I think that Lumber Liquidator’s shou;d replace all these floors for people… regardless of the lawsuit. But that won’t happen.
Hi snowcollector I didn’t see this on 60 Minutes but I read about it on MSN business section and this made me angry and very sad at the same time. How could any company knowingly sell something this toxic to people all in the name of profit. I don’t blame your friends for ripping it up but what are the alternatives to replace it with something that doesn’t have all of these chemicals? I am sure that the big box stores have the same products. The companies that carry products that are made in the USA and follow the regulations are far and few. There was one small company in my area that carried flooring products that were made in the USA but the company went out of business cause they couldn’t keep up with the big companies. I am sorry that your friends find themselves in this predicament but at least they got it out before any major health issues ocurred. I am also glad someone had the courage to go after LL maybe this will serve as an example to other companies so tha they will clean up their acts. I am so tired of these sub standard products made in China towels that you launder 1 time and they fade, jeans that smell and the color rubs off on other things even after laundering, expensive leather purses smelling so bad you have to return them. I could go on and on ……
