Am I the only one who cannot believe people would pay lots of good money to go see amovie about Joy Mangano, the mop queen, who made tons of money hawking hangers and other stuff on t.v.??
I had no idea that the movie Joy was about HSN’s Joy Mangano until last night while watching the Golden Globes. They mentioned her last name and I thought, could it be our Joy Mangano.
Congrats to Joy and I will see this movie.
I had to leave after half an hour. I thought the part I did see was awful. I didn’t get to stay and see the good part, or the wrong movie was showing? I only did see a disfunctional family mess, I thought it was about her inventions, and success. I am not going to go see it again.
Every once in a while a movie comes along that is family friendly coupled with great castng and a story to tell. For me, the movie, "Joy" has this DNA. it certainly helps that I have been loyal to home shopping networks since the 1980’s. It has been an evolution for them and for me and women in general. As the shopping channels are comprised primarily of women in various endeavors, it speaks to me. I watch for sales technique. I watch for education. I watch for interesting and relevant things to purchase. I certainly have not been thrilled with every product purchased, but I am still a loyal buyer and lurker! The movie was even palatable for my husband and that is "sayin’ something"!
Nice movie; great cast of character actors and a gritty story of tenacity. I was uplifted and I feel that even though the movie probably took great liberties, I was still, once again, educated.
Any person who ventures out into the business world, could learn a thing or two from the film. Great Job!!
I cant wait to see Joy demo the new Miracle Mop right after New Years. I love to watch her on HSN.
Her products are fun, too, Wish she would bring back Vanilla Berru Musk to FF.
Best wishes Joy! The negative commenst are just SOUR GRAPES!
I also agree with Meezergeezer – My daughter and I enjoyed the movie "Joy" and I’m not a fan of all of Joys products, however I am happy with the ones I have purchased. We saw the first showing yesterday and the theatre was about 80% to 90% full. Great story and it had a terrific cast. As the people left, we could hear their conversations of how much they liked the movie – we never heard a negative comment about it. I doubt that it will be an Oscar contender, but not all movies are!
Bringing back the Miracle Mop would be a terrific idea.
My husband and I saw the movie we thought it was inspiring, goes to show with intelligence, hard work, grit and determination and old fashioned chutzpah dreams can come true – it is the ultimate American success story.
I am not a huge fan of every product – but I did have a Miracle Mop and we really liked it – I wish I still had the mop – would have worked out well in our cellar. I hope they bring it back as an Anniversary edition – I would buy a couple and several refills!
I do admit the knock off clothes hangers don’t hold a candle to the geniune Joy M. hanger and I do like the My Little Steamer. The purses I got have been a disappointment – perhaps was luck of the draw.
I guess I like to think people still can make it in this country if they try hard enough and have enough luck along the way.
The movie was GREAT!!!!!!!!! Great story and cast, Robert Deniro was hysterical.
On my way now to see "Joy". I will let you know what I tink when I get back. The fisrt showing is sold out!!!!!!
My husband and I will be seeing the movie tomorrow. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it since I first heard about it. Joy is truly an inspiration and a person to be admired for her accomplishments. I enjoy using many of her products.
It’s not an easy world for a single mom with young children to achieve the success she has.
Best wishes to Joy on the movie.
I would like to hear her story. I think I would read her book if there is one. I have never seen a Jennifer Lawrence movie, not sure I would even recognize her. But I do like Robert Deniro.
My sister and I have a date on Christmas day to see the movie about Joy. It looks like its going to be a great story and especially with such great talent.
We all have relatives or someone we know who has overcome obstacles but I don’t understand the meaness or nasty comments regarding Joy. Her story looks fantastic, so why shouldn’t she tell it?
Good luck to Joy,but I wouldn’t see the movie. There is a woman who I greatly admire who has also overcome obstacles–Sandra Lee.She epitomizes beauty, grace, courage and her show is quite nice-nothing too difficult, the tablescapes are my favorite. However we may all have some in our lives of past who would have a wonderful story to tell!:smileywink:
I AGREE that we need strong women role models, especially women in non-traditional jobs! For example, I am a locksmith and have friend who trains electricians. But Joy is buying crap from China where people (and child labor) make pennies per hour and pollute the air with toxins. It is so smoggy in Beijing, I understand you cannot see. Anyway, she is not a philanthropist, she is a capitalist. Does she start a charitable foundation or school like Oprah? And my own father’s story of a man with polio born into poverty overcame his physical disbilities would make a way better story imho. But each to his own. A story about the man who created the polio vaccine or Mother Teresa would be better in my mind.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Joy. shes the best. I wonder why shes not a shark on shark tank, instead of some of the others.
