I'm hesitant to buy/try new products now
I’ve seen a few items that have caught my eye but am very hesitant to purchase. Since the latest fallout over a cleaner, I am having a tough time believing the vendor and/or host on a product being sold. I have bought Curtis Stone Products and Origami Products so I know what I can expect from them but as for anything new, I just can’t pull the trigger to buy. (I’m one of those people that just doesn’t like the inconvenience of having to return something as my time is worth something and I’ve worked hard for my dollar.) Are any of you ‘holding back’ because your trust has been compromised?
I am trying to give HSN the benefit of the doubt about Miracle Clean , but i agree it makes me think twice, without reviews , but now all of a sudden there are over 40 pages of 5 star reviews . Not every product is going to please everybody , but in this case there is something wrong.
I am now with you all the way. I had ordered some of Joy’s other products and they were all junk. I was suckered in by the praises of all for Miracle Clean’s safety, pleasant scent and cleaning ability. Yes I should have SUCKER stamped on my forehead in big red letters! Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice (or more), shame on me! Luckily I tracked the delivery of Miracle Clean through the order status page and refused delivery of it when the delivery arrived at my home. It seems TSs arrive days later in Minneapolis. MN area. I had read all the posts concerning MC in this community. I have asthma and many allergies, so there was no way I was chancing a severe reaction that many others had experienced.
To me , its about the trust and integrity, regardless of the products they sell. Everyone has different expectations and experiences and I respect that. The trust issue has given me a sour taste to try anything new. I don’t want to berade hosts as they are after all, doing their jobs – and I’m sure they have to choose between feeding their families or possibly getting canned for being vocal about a product they don’t believe in. (Don’t believe there are too many jobs out there for tv hosts! LOL) I would think though, that HSN has a quality control department that scrutinizes the products before they agree to demo the product and contract to sell on HSN…the buck should stop there.
As for reading reviews to assist in my decision making, I am not trusting that any more either, especially after hearing how reviews can be manipulated.
Those vendors that have a signed contract with HSN are going to feel the hurt as well if the consumer is hesitant. I always say to myself, when in doubt, don’t…
I won’t go to QVC as I did not trust them years ago…. They will sell stinky socks to wrap around your neck as a flu remedy if it makes them a profit.
I guess it is a caveat emptor – buyer beware! Now I am inconvenienced by having to do my own research online before I consider buying. I used to trust what HSN was selling as I thought they had ‘high standards” that had to be met. HSN had spent so many years in gaining consumer trust to have it crumble on one TS event.
I agree with both of you. When Joy first came out with her hangers, I hemmed and hawed. Decided to wait for the reviews and almost all were 5-stars. So, the next time she had a TSV on the hangers I bought them and used them. Unfortunately, when I took the clothes off these hangers I found that the colors wept through on the clothing. My whites were now black and when I tried to wash them, they were permanently dyed. I have not purchased any of her products since nor have I listened to any of her presentations, I was that put off.
However, on another note, I am finding that the jewelry is not the same as it was a few years ago. I realize that the Quality Control Department are swamped with new products and probably look at a few in each batch. However, letting things through that are broken, torn or the color misrepresented is a bad reflection on the company they work for. Like many customers I do not enjoy returning a product and many times I had to bite the bullet and do so.
I forgot to mention that I almost purchased the Keranique TSV. For some reason, as one ages, their hair starts to thin out and most products on the market do absolutely nothing. Being that I now have an allergy to sulfites, I find myself reading all labels. And I did so for the shampoo. There was no disclaimer for sulfites or sulfates and so I read on. About half way through the list I noticed corn starch and stopped reading the list. Why would anyone use corn starch in a shampoo. It’s a sulfite. I didn’t read the rest of the list. Then again, there were so many ingredients that were difficult to pronounce and far too many for me to research, especially when you have less than 24hrs to do so. Not a good thing.
YES. HAVE BEEN BURNED BY JOYS BLEEDING HANGERS, ULTREX COOKWARE, THE SO-CALLED GREEN PAN, SUZANNE SOMERS’ FOOD AND MORE. UNFORTUNATELY, I MOSTLY DIDNT FEEL THE COST OF RETURN SHIPPING WAS WORTH IT, SO I KEPT SOME THINGS. NOW, I’M SKEPTICAL & WAIT TO SEE THE REVIEWS & FIND THAT THE “NEW IMPROVED” VERSION FREQUENTLY IS INTRODUCED. WHAT ARE SPOSTA DO? THROW AWAY THE “OLD UNIMPROVED” PRODUCT & PURCHASE THE “NEW IMPROVED” VERSION? ALSO, I FEEL IF I WAIT, THE PRICES COME DOWN. I THANK GOD THAT WE CAN NOW SEE REVIEWS ONLINE – THAT HELPS ME A LOT IN MAKING A DECISION.
ABSOLUTELY I am hesitant to buy ANYTHING from HSN now. I agree with all of you on this.
I was looking at Tony Little’s TS sneaker boot today. Tempted as I could use a boot like that in NYC. Well, I found the old sneaker boot that sold out from last year and read the negative reviews first (as I always do). I was happy not to have made the purchase for today’s TS. Those reviews answered all the questions I had in my head before ordering.
I knew from experience that TL uses cheap materials for his shoes and boots. But I wanted to give him another chance and hear from customers who had them and wore them. Many of the reviews stated two sizes too small when ordering your regular size, not warm, feet got soaked in the rain, etc. Dang. A cute little sneaker boot too. But now I know why they are under fifty bucks.
Sad that we can’t trust the 5-star reviews since we know now that they can be tampered with and be outright false. For shame, for shame.
I too was tempted by the TL TS, but resisted until I had time to do research. Thanks to your posting, I no longer need to do. I suspected they were TGTBT. They also promoted a miraculous tweezer today, which I looked up the reviews. I passed on the tweezers. Next was a wonderful brush set, but reviewers said it pulled their hair out and left bald spots. TG for the honest reviewers taking the time to post. It was well worth the time it took to do the research. I hate that I can’t trust HSN, but that’s on them not me.
I refuse to buy anything ever again from them, to have them write to give Miracle Clean another try after tossing my cookies the first time I tried it. Really? why would I subject myself to that again? Sorry HSN I am not , once bitten twice shy. The stuff is toxic, I don’t care what they say. I will not watch HSN ever again, have no trust in them. Food for thought on the huggable hangers, so I can get more clothes in the closet, doesn’t that make the weight more? Just how much weight can the rod hold before it breaks? And as for the hangers bleeding they said in the presentations I saw that they are color fast. Another lie, sorry I am sticking with the plastic hangers from Walmart, I know they do not bleed.
Talk about censorship, HSN removed the word S-T-U-P-I-D from my prior post on this tread, the sentence was – I am not s-t-u-p-i-d. I am so done with this company!!!
I now wonder how many customers left because of the smell of the Miracle Clean. I’m hoping that the new ownership read some of these responses, it may help to make the necessary improvements, or is it wishful thinking on my part. I recently read that to obtain new customers that changes are being made such as adding more beauty and fashions. That’s not a bad idea. However, quality is better than quantity. New designs that can be worn for all age groups could possibly bring in happier and new customers rather than working with one particular age group.
I am really bummed about the Miracle Clean. I actually like Joy’s hangers – no bleeding problems because I always bought a light color. I tried the wax melter and it was ok – not great and the wax melts were’t anything to write home about. I bought the mop like an – it was awful. I also fell for the Miracle Cleaner- I almost choked. Those hosts lied on TV right to my face and the face of thousands or hundreds of thousand others, I really feel betrayed. You can’t touch or smell the products they sell and we rely on the hosts to be honest when describing the products they sell. They must have been spraying water around the set because the hosts would have died of the smell. Not to mention that at midnight the glass cleaning demo didn’t go as planned and it was never done again. It didn’t clean and left major streaks.
It will be a really long time before I buy another Joy Mangano product or have confidence in HSN or the hosts. That product never should have never been sold.
They removed i-d-i-o-t from mine as in I am an i-d-i-o-t because I bought the Miracle Mop. I was insulting no one but myself ugh
I’ve always been hesitant on buying clothes or a perfume online or off a Shopping network.
Perfumes are such a personal preference. In my opinion, 2 people can wear the same perfume but the scent can be very different on both due to our own body chemistry makeup. I also get bad headaches if the scent is too strong so to rely on someone describing a scent, is just not a chance I;m willing to take.
Clothes, regardless of any fashion line, also make me hesitant. I like to feel the fabric and look at the stitching. I had bought a pair of beautiful dress pants only to find the stitching was substandard… after the first wash on a delicate cycle, the stitching had unraveled. I also find that the sizing can be such a variable from one manufacturer to another.
When it comes to Kitchen items, I am more open to a description as they usually demo the product. The only question I ask of myself when watching, is how well the item stands up to daily use – cooking, washing, dishwasher – the day by day wear and tear.
