HSN’s 10% Sales Growth in 4th Quarter 2015 following 3rd Quarter Disappointing Performance
The Tampa Tribune reported that HSN had a 10% sales growth in the 4th quarter of 2015 compared to the same quarter in 2014. The only category that had sluggish sales was jewelry! Mobile sales now account for half HSN’s sales with 40% growth over this time last year.
As far as HSN stock prices go, on August 5, 2015 HSN stock traded at $75.43 per share (52 week high) compared to November 18 at $49.91. Trading now is around $51.08 per share.
Interestingly, CEO Mindy Grossman blamed poor 3rd quarter performance on disappointing jewelry and househood sales. It’s public knowledge that she sold around 13.7 million shares of her own HSN stock in 2015. Her compensation package for 2014 was $4,936,033.
So we should be seeing some major jewelry merchandising changes this year. Also, it will be fascinating to see how TV programming might change in the next several years since mobile sales are the fastest growing platform and already are responsible for approximately 50% of sales.
HSN needs better quality and pricing. THAT’S why their stock dropped. AND at a time when holiday sales were at their highest……Ronnie. Wish I could put up a picture of a light bulb being turned on for HSN. They seem to be in the dark……..Ronnie………
I read someplace that qvc had teamed up with Zulilly. Zulilly is a good company.
HSN should team up with some local or catalog companies. – Forget the ‘celebrities.’
Just before Wendy Williams joined HSN, she was wearing some very pretty outfits on her show. According to Wendy, many f her outfits came from the catalog Newport News. – I love Newport News items. She usually gave the price of the outfits which would be around $30..
… Now, I believe these are the same type garments that are in her ‘line’ for twice that amount.
HSN should stop playing with celebrities about ‘their line’. On TV, celebrities are spokespersons and they do commericials. There is no laughable pretense about it being ‘their line!’ – Get A Grip!
I am far less inclined to purchase something that has a celebritiy’s name on it.
Sell products and forget about these celebrities. All of them. Work with retail and catalog companies.
The netire stock market has been in the toliet for months. I wouldn’t read too much into the selling of executive stock.
I have drastically cut down on my overall HSN purchases. I find the things I need they don’t carry & they don’t listen to us the customer. For example, we’ve been begging them to carry petites, talls & wide widths for as long as I can remember but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. I have enough jewelery to last a lifetime. So if a company doesn’t give the customer what they’re looking for we just go somewhere else.
Dumping of stock by executives is a red flag……
HSN needs to add value to it’s sales, and many of you have already suggested "Warranties Included"…and those warranties( Jewelry included) should exceed the base line one could get, by buying it anywhere else. Also, I’m still perturbed by the per item Shipping costs….this really adds up. Many other large, reputable, sites offer Free Shipping or Free Shipping after some nominal sum: $50.00. I only buy items from HSN, that are hard to find, replicate, elsewhere. I enjoy HSN, but want long term value, low worry-factor, with my purchase.
Also, HSN gives away too much Free stuff. Now several hosts are offering free HSN items. How can you do business by constantly giving away Free-Free-Free items?
I hate to speculate, but many times an executive dumps their stock prior to a change. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. I heard they had a big layoff right before Christmas.
Thanks for sharing this, Snow. The 3rd quarter conference call was interesting. I bet they will make some changes.
I think HSN has too many jewelry vendors. There are must be a dozen of them that I’ve never seen. Streamline with four or five jewelry vendors.
Also, there are too many kitchen vendors and kitchen chefs. They each have the same things. Some of these chefs of kitchen names can go. Promote Brands and companies such as kitchen Master. Promote Cookware Companies such as ‘Home Essentials’. Go straight to the companies and work with them and a rep. No ‘chefs’ No ‘stars’. … WP is the only chef you need.
Chef Garcia’s cookware is okay, but she is not needed. Her type of cookware is at all of te local stores and online.
Use Marc Gill. Have him as the cooking/ kitchen rep for the cookware/ kitchen products.
Amy is great but it is boring seeing and hearing her everyweek. Use other hosts sometimes. The Beauty Report should rotate hosts. The List should rotate as well.
If HSN included the warrenty with the purchase of jewerly that would certainly help and encourage shopping.
Especially with Rarities, Colleen Lopez and Technibond lines!
I wish they had a jewerly repair dept for these lines that they co-develop.
Long live Heidi Daus! and Jay King both who will repair their items.
