HSN stacks positive reviews
I do a fair amount of reading of reviews before I purchase something.
I have recently noticed something that bugs me. They stack all the BEST reviews first. They don’t list them in the order they received them – they go by 5 star first to 1 star last.
I think this is very misleading. As much as I want to think a product is all positively reviewed, many are NOT. So, you may read through 3 pages and think ALL the reviews are good. Well, that’s not necessarily the case.
Although technically they are posting negative reviews, I feel this is very misleading and annoys me. I want them to be random, by order received so I get a more true picture.
Anyone else notice this and find it misleading?
thank you Candace. I am sorry if i was unclear, the disclaimer said it was an internal program, so i thought it was from HSN.
Paid may be too broad a word. I used it since people who do something like write reviews in exchange for tangible items (like a kindle) seeminlgy are being compensated or "paid", tho not in cash.
Love honest reviews as:you cant touch or evaluate merchandise via tv, return shipping is expensive, and I sort them.
Write a review and we’ll give you $99 in free merchandise. Sadly, I discovered this
Person received free product as part of an internal program.
on every one of the nine reviews for item 451-786, all 5 stars. So now you have to read the honest reviews written for freebies to distinguish them from honest reviews from paying folks, and the graphs are less helpful, since they dont distinguish between paid and non paid reviews.
Like other reviewers I considered HSN reviews to be relatively trustworthy even when sorted 5 stars first, since they werent compensated. Also like others, read old and new, start from the bottom, check the reviewers overall previous posts.
Although the disclaimer helps, HSN seems to be going down the same road as Amazon and their paid review lawsuits, all of which started innocently by giving selected reviewers merchandise for free to honestly review.
I posted a comment this am on the paid review thread, but it didnt appear. Happy Shopping. I really like HSN and the folks who take time to share.
it doesnt bother me how they are stacked. i know that the drop down menu allows me to sort the reviews in a number of different ways PLUS the graph of the reviews shows me how the reviews are sorted, 1-5. it isnt misleading, you just have to be aware of the way it is set up. i also like to read some of the newest reviews AND some of the oldest reviews, depending on how long a product has been on hsn. you have to be a proactive consumer when you purchase.
Misleading and unprofessional…huh? Don’t you think people are smart enough to click "lowest to highest"? I like the way the reviews are sorted.
I have noticed the same thing. It is very misleading and unprofessional of HSN….What a shame!
It used to be the reviews were mixed. It has not be that way for awhile. You do have to sort them.
I find products that I like that others do not like and vice versa when exploring all reviews.
What I do not like is the damage control reviews. Once an item is returned, the customer cannot post about their experience. The negative review must be posted by the customer prior to the return of the product. Otherwise, there is no opportunity for a review. Obviously, if it was returned, the review will not be positive. Hence, that is what I call damage control. :womansad:
They do not stack anything. They simply offer the default view by stars, starting with the highest. You can choose to first click on one star reviews (which is something I personally do). You have to default sort somehow, and sorting by stars seems a reasonable thing to do.
Yes I have noticed this. I discovered the button to the right where you can switch it from low to high. or by date. I do think the reviews should be posted by date no matter what the rating is.
The way HSN sorts their Reviews can nowhere be construed as ‘misleading’. I really don’t understand what your problem is. The Review Status is right there on the Review Page; you can easily click on any of them. Personally, having to read thru a plethora of mixed-up 1-to-5 Star Reviews, (by order of Date, as you suggest), is a pain in the neck.
To me, it would be far more ‘misleading’ to bury a boat-load of negative Reviews in a bunch of 4 & 5-Star Reviews… who’s gonna read thru all that?
Better to click on the 1-Star Reviews and work your way up from there. In that way, you can see at a glance what everyone is complaining about; and make a decision as to whether or not those complaints pertain to you. That’s what I do… I always start at the 1-Star and work my way up… much, MUCH easier that way.
You do have the option of listing the negatives first. But of course they want you to read the good ones first. They want you to buy. Misleading? Maybe. But a sales ploy.
