High Prices or is it just my imagination
Is it just me, or do you also think that prices for so many items on the shopping channels are over the top? It is hard for me to imagine paying over $50 for one simple, basic top, or $300 or more for a purse. I know that there are overhead costs, salaries, etc., but so often, the prices just seem outrageous. I know part of it is the convenience from shopping in your own home, but items still seem too high for what you’re getting.
So many things are unaffordable to the average person, even with easy pay. I only buy what I can afford as I am on a fixed income and have to be a smart shopper.
IT’S NOT YOUR IMAGINATION. THE PRICES SEEM TO BE CONSISTENTLY HIGH ON THE ITEMS YOU MENTIONED & SEEM CONSISTENT ACROSS THE SHOPPING CHANNELS. I CANNOT & WILL NOT PAY THE ABOVE MENTIONED PRICES. I’M REALLY BLESSED AS MY NEIGHBOR RECENTLY MOVED OUT AND GAVE ME HUNDREDS OF CLOTHING ITEMS – ALL WITH WELL KNOWN BRANDS. I ALSO SHOP A LOCAL FLEA MARKET & HAVE GOTTEN MANY BRAND NEW ITEMS FOR $1, 2 & 3! KOHL’S HAS GREAT CLEARANCE ITEMS ALSO. SHOP AROUND & GOOD LUCK! I ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOODWILL & SALVATION ARMY STORES – MANY BEAUTIFUL THINGS! SORRY HSN. SOME OF US ARE STRUGGLING….
I agree flyby2. Also I think that shopping channels can offer a false sense of value by inflating the price then breaking up the payments into multiple installments.
Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE flex or easy pays. But I will only buy if the item is truly worth it or I really love it. And I have to remind myself if the item is actually worth the total cost and not just the first installment. The first payment is typically used in a sales pitch to lure in the customer but sometimes that is all the product is worth imo.
Very often shopping channels offer the best of both worlds- generous discounts on things you want plus multiple payments. People get into trouble when they keep buying things they can’t afford because the payments are so low (but add up quickly), I try to tell myself if I can only afford something when broken into payments then perhaps I shouldn’t be buying it all (and yet, I have acquired some truly lovely and unique things this way).
But yes prices have ballooned. If I think something is worth $20 I’m not paying $90, even with 3-4 payments. I’m just as picky at department stores. I get so many deals online that it is quite difficult to walk into a store and buy something, especially without a coupon. But is has happened of course lol.
I can’t believe pot roast is $5-bucks-a-pound or more! I sound like my grandma when I’m at the store now, (grumbling under my breath), because, when I was a kid, she used to grumble too—> ‘Criminently! I remember when ground round was 19-cents-a-pound!‘ *lol*
I agree! I am really watching what I buy now from them. I never buy clothes, shoes, etc. as I don’t want to pay the return shipping fees if they don’t fit and I can’t afford them anyways. I always think the people must make good money to buy many of these items.
I agree Flyby, where I have noticed the most increases is the Q. Their prices are over the top. I use to shop there a lot, now a piece of jewelry here and there when the pieces are reasonable. Usually when I do see something I like; the prices are so out of wack with everyone elses that I cannot justify purchasing the item. I usually purchase here on HSN or Evine.
I have always thought the clothing was over-priced and I don’t even consider shopping for it unless it has gone to clearance. Even then, it’s usually more than I am willing to pay unless it’s something I really want and can’t find a substitute elsewhere.
I do not and will not understand a 60 dollar t shirt. Get over it DG2.
I can understand the cost and some for an elegant blouse.
inflation…. Everything is growing in price. Tops are creeping up to a $100 range… You can still buy a whole lot on clearance especially if you are in the "minus" size. Fabulous dresses and tops all for around $20. But full price – is going up. Just wait till the minimum wage becomes $15, everything will be much more expensive.
I mean, there is still Wal-Mart and what not; but HSN is not supposed to be WalMart.
Betsy yeah I’m happy, I still got an ATH.
Don’t worry about it Susana, you have a fantastic score.
