Electronic Retailing Changing- Not For The Better
As a fairly long-term HSN/QVC (18+ years) shopper, I have seen a lot of changes by both retailers, unfortunately as of late I don’t think for the better. Pricing and shipping has risen to astronomical levels for the average customer and the quality has not followed suit. I am frequently asked for my feedback on what I feel that both retailers are doing well and what they need to improve upon, however, It seems like it falls on deaf ears. For example, repeatedly long-term customers complain that coupons are available to new customers, yet without the long-term customers you would not be in business. We need to be recognized for supporting your company for so long. I used to shop specific brands on HSN, but have gotten to the point where I can’t stand to watch the presentations anymore, because they have just become too over the top, i.e. Diane Gilman and I used to wear only her jeans. No more. I could write a book and I have practically to some of the retailers, but no one would want to read it. In light of all the recent HSN host changes/departures I thought it was the right time to voice my opinion. I am sure there are many who don’t agree with me and that is fine, this is merely my perception.
Lots of places offer free shipping. Some are free regardless of how much you spend and some tie the free shipping to the dollar amount spent (i.e., spend $50.00 to qualify for free shipping). These stores are my go to typically, but they don’t always have what I need.
Every site that I shop does the same thing regarding coupons.Once in awhile they offer free shipping or discounts but most are aimed at new customers. They have to draw new customers to stay in business. This is with almost every company..
As for quality that has gone down hill for a long time but gotten worse in the last couple of years..A company can only sell what they can obtain for resale.Every place is cutting corners to try and hold prices down.We may complain but 90% of us wouldn’t/couldn’t pay the price it would cost to get really good quality now.Everything has gone through the roof.
Regarding shipping I can understand why so much has been cut regarding that. Some people used the return feature like swinging doors since someone else was paying for it.Like everything else when some abuse it then everyone loses it.We need to understand free returns are not free. The customer pays for these things by higher costs.Anyone that mails packages is aware of the outragous shipping costs now.$6.45 is the cheapest at the USPS now and that is for something very small..I order cases of single serve chips and the shipping by Fed-X cost about a dollar less than the case of chips themself so the shipping amost doubles the cost.
I agree with much that is stated but this is not just an HSN thing..It is every where and only going to get worse.I don’t buy a lot from HSN but that is due to finding cheaper prices elsewhere.I have a number of reward cards that offer discounts and that usually puts the cost less so that is where I buy.Overall HSN is about like everywhere else. You have to look for deals and there are others that need to use Flex-Pay which also factors in a bit higher costs for offering that perk.Shop different sites and find the best deals for YOU..Everyone has to do that now.We can no longer expect a company to bend over backward for us.Times have changed..maybe not for the better but changed.
I disagree. People complain about pricing and shipping, but prices are up everywhere. Prices constantly go up over time. It is a fat of life, and shipping costs money. Shipping is expensive. Why people think that it is not is beyond me.
As far as rewarding long-time customers, I find the concep tridiculous. HSN and QVC are retailers — nothing more, nothing less. They are not our family. They are not our friens. They do not esist to entertain us or alleiate our boredome. They owe us nothing, and we owe them nothing.
As with any other retailer, if HSN has an itemI want at a deent price, I will buy it. If not, I will move on and look elsewhere.
I totally agree with you-just paid my account off after 21 years.
Click on Arcade(by the gray jigsaw puzzle piece) at the top of the page. About 5 inches from the top (at least right now) you will see a pink banner that has Customer Appreciation Month written in it. Click on where it says Learn More. A box will open up where you can write the code.
