Do You Return A Lot of Things?
Sometimes I’m afraid I am returning too many things. I wonder when HSN blocks accounts due to too many returns? I keep 99% of the jewelry I buy but clothes and shoes are another matter. I wonder if this is normal and I’m no different from most people or if most people keep their purchases. How about all of you? Lots of returns or not?
I have been shopping HSN for well over 30 years. I never really use to return much the first few decades. It seems that in the last 2-3 years I have returned more than I did the first few decades. It usually fashion due to sizing or something looking cheaply made whcih has been my major problem. Sometimes I return makeup especially foundation that the host and vendor claims it is full coverage and when I apply it there is basically no coverage.
I miss the days when HSN sold beautiful clothes (like Randolph Duke) you didn’t see yourself coming and going and very well made not like the cheap looking clothes that they now sell. It’s really a shame I use to count on HSN for fashion it was my “go to place” sadly those days are gone.
I mostly just return clothes due to it not fitting well, to big or to small or just not flattering. I rarely return jewelry unless its damaged or something falls apart within the first month. I return about 1-2% of what I purchase and I buy all my clothes and jewelry from HSN. Pamlou please don’t worry about, it happens to all of us.
About 10-15% of the time and almost always due to sizing problems. Once in a while the description or photo is a bit misleading and I don’t like the item. I’ve never had any vendor call me out on it.
This is my motto: If it does not meet my expectations, it is going back, and I’m not paying to ship it.
I might return one item out of ten.
No I have not had a need to. I may have return maybe one or two things in 16 years.:smileyhappy:
I think, at least I would hope, that HSN knows when a return is a valid one such as defective or item misrepresentation.
Somethings are going to be a hit and miss, or a a crap shoot if one is not familiar with the designer or the item which is reflected in your history patterns.
I do a lot of exchanges because I try to buy what I know I will like as far as fit and style so it’s usually a sizing issue and the exchange policy is one of the great features HSN has.
Alerts for the HSN “letter” might be:
- Too much impulse buying.
- Buying a number of the same things from slew of different product lines, I’m exaggerating here but re: 10 brown eye shadows, 16 moto jackets, 5 pairs of navy booties, something of one in every color with 12 colors to choose from…you get the idea.
- Purchasing a highly specialized item and returning it on the 30th day or something one would use once for a very special occasion like a prom outfit, holiday decor, staging a house for sale, dinner at the White House maybe?
- And many other obvious misuses or abuses of their already generous policies.
Recently, yes. A. LOT. I posted this on another thread: I’ve been sending and receiving packages of the SAME 6 items due to fit issues. Never had this problem before and I put the blame solely on the vendor. Especially when I order from this vendor all the time and have done so for the past 5 years or so. For whatever reason, THIS year, the fit has been nothing close to what the size chart says and the reviews for these items (as well as other items by this vendor) are saying the same thing: Fit is WAY off and nothing matches the size chart.
I also thing the hosts and vendors lie about how items fit….. Again, based on what reviews say. There is NO WAY a brand of shoes is “fitting to size” when EVERY REVIEW says the shoes run 1-2 sizes too small. I guess the host and vendor have Special feet because THEIR size is the only one that is true to size.
I think HSN is intelligent to realize that after a certain % of returns on an item, it’s not the customer with this issue, it’s the ITEM.
Don’t be concerned; you’re in good company : )
I have returned more things recently because I have been ordering more clothes online. I cannot know if it is going to fit until I get it, nor can we tell about the quality. I recently ordered a lot of clearance items but about half did not fit and I have some items I ordered from Iman and Slinky here that I need to return. However, I do keep a lot of what I purchase. I would think those that get the letters are people that hardly ever keep anything or return items in used/damaged condition.
I have NEVER returned any clothing purchased ANYWHERE after wearing it. I know when I try it on — if it fits or if it has flaws . YES some people do misuse return policy and YES it costs all of us
Of course in HSN sales pitch they say , wear it , you do have 30 days … actually almost three months during holiday to return.
I guess since it is said, it is ok to order, wear, return .
So wearing or not wearing is a non issue .
I have been buying more clothes recently and have had to return almost half. I understand that HSN has shipping costs and if everyone returned every item they would have to increase costs so it hurts everyone. With that said this is different than buying at a store where you can see exactly what the color of the clothes, make up, etc are and you can try on the clothes. I have bought clothes in my normal size that are at least a size too big and others that don’t fit. I know this is common but when buying online from any retailer it is taking a chance the clothes won’t fit or be a different color than what is presented on tv or online. You do not know what you are truly getting until you get it home. So I understand why they may block accounts that have a lot of returns but I hope it is a very high percentage of returns to items bought. I love HSN and I have always received my orders promptly and if I ever had an issue customer service responded promptly and were very friendly. I would hate to get blocked because I take chances ordering from them without seeing it, trying it on, or feeling the material and have to return items because I did not like them once trying them or seeing them in person.
I almost never return anything because I try to make sure I really want it before ordering.I rarely buy clothing online due to so many variances in sizing.I think a lot of people take the try it for 30 days thing to the extreme and it causes everyone to pay in one form or another. If something is defective, etc then returns shouldnt be an issue but people that order 3 sizes and return two for example costs everyone money.Just changing ones mind isn’t a good reason either.Put it in the cart and think about it a few days if one isnt sure..Shipping costs are through the roof and if serial returners want to try everything then return it at costs to others,[higher prices for example to cover these costs],then they need to hit the physical stores.A few returns such as 6 or so per year seems average.
I find women with children and give. I know how some organizations work with resale. VERY HIGH PRICED!
Now I am so afraid of getting “the letter” that I do not want to buy anything. I cancelled my purchases yesterday because I feared, if I did not like the items, I could not safely return them. Clothing is difficult. It does not always match the sizing charts and sometimes it does not look right on your body even if the models looked great in it. Also, fabric can be an issue as well as cut. With jewelry, it often looks different in person than with special lighting. I guess it is time to switch shopping channels which breaks my heart. I have been with HSN for a very long time but I do not want to live with an axe hanging over my head. How Sad!
Yes, I buy a lot and return about half of it. Most recently I returned two TS mattress pads from Concierge that were described as being machine washable but there is a warning inside the package not to put in a washer with an agitator. This is a deceptive practice and it’s not the first time. Who would want a mattress pad that can’t be laundered. Overall I like shopping with HSN. I return items that don’t fit, shrink, or have flaws. I don’t return items that are used unless it’s a small appliance that turns out to be defective. Some brands, like DG, are inconsistent in sizing and I do send them back. I have sensitive skin and return cosmetics that irritate my eyes or skin. Some things I return becasue I just don’t like them or have changed my mind. Or sometimes I find a much better price elsewhere, like Amazon. I don’t buy things from the “as seen on TV” shows because I suspect the quality will be less than I would like.
All this being said, I got the “letter” a few weeks ago. We’ll find out if HSN will close my account because I returned the mattress pads. I’ve been a customer since 1989.
