Delonghi Air Conditioner unit only lasted one summer!
I purchased a De’Longhi Pinguino 3-in-1 12,500 BTU Portable AC GRAY.on May 26, 2014 for $494. It worked beautifully last summer. It worked for one month this summer, and then the fan blade dislodged! I did NOT purchase the extended warranty (as I almost always do) as the unit had a 4-year manufacturer’s warranty, and my dentist has one they have used for years on their offices and it has worked beautifully.
Well, HSN would not help me as I was six weeks over the year warranty. I called the manufacture, and I have to ship the unit to Dallas, TX from TN and pay for the labor to repair the unit! Only the parts are covered by the warranty! So, the repair costs would be almost as much as a new unit!
So, I called HSN back, willing to purchase another unit from them (this time with an extended warranty) but hoping they would give me a discount. They would not even discuss it with me.
I was very disappointed. I had only used the A/C for about four months in 2014 and then for about 1 1/2 months in 2015–so it hadn’t been used for a year–and I had been very careful to follow all the instructions in the manual.
Sam’s Club has a slightly smaller unit (only 500 BTU’s less) for $200 cheaper, and I will get an automatic three-year warranty from Sam’s and I can take it back to the local store. So, from now on, I will no longer be purchasing any large $$ items from HSN!!!
Oh, BTW, I am disabled and usually cannot drive or lift anything, which is one reason why I purchase items online. Fortunately, the Sam’s Club will also deliver it to me!
Again, I cannot tell you how disappointed I was in the manager’s total lack of concern for what was going on. I get that they were not OBLIGATED to help me. That is not the point. But if they really care about their customers, and I was willing to buy an even more expensive model, I think they should have been willing to negotiate a little on the price.
Sorry to hear of your loss, but be careful from the next time. Always cross check about the HVAC system before you purchase it. In my industry I was in need of HVAC system, then my friend suggested me to take help of an Air Conditioning Maintenance New Jersey technician before buying as they will help in deciding which system is best suitable for you.
If HSN does not have a return policy in their contracts with vendors for poor quality items, they need a better purchasing department.
The sad part is ,that’s the chance we take purchasing these expensive items
with no guarantee of them lasting.
