Conversation 25

  • Sheba2011
  • 05.23.24 12:45 PM

Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 25 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

NATIONAL TAFFY DAY | MAY 23

May 23rd celebrates a mouth-watering confection on National Taffy Day. Taffy candy has been made and sold for many years and has become a favorite souvenir of many vacationers.

Salt water taffy in was invented 1883 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Confectioners make this sweet treat using boiled sugar and butter. They stretch and pull the concoction until it is a chewy consistency that can be rolled and cut. The flavors range from buttery to tart to sweet. There is a flavor for everyone, and it seems like they introduce a new one each year, too. Taffy’s colorful displays entice children and adults alike. And they have been doing so for generations. At one time, candy shops and pharmacies sold penny candy, and taffy was one of the many tempting options we could choose from. However, those days are now long gone.

With summer just around the corner, seasonal candy shops are stocking up their latest selections. With so many flavors to choose from, it’s often hard to decide which ones to pick. That’s why they often offer flavors swirled together to help us narrow it down. But we’re still enticed by the variety and the colors.

NATIONAL LUCKY PENNY DAY | MAY 23

On May 23rd, National Lucky Penny Day hopes you’ll have good luck all day long. Heads or tails, does it matter which side you find your penny?

Years ago a penny was able to buy something. (Check out National Taffy Day – to see what we used to get for a penny.) Today, due to inflation, the penny does not buy much of anything. The metal value and cost of minting pennies exceed their face value. Many nations have stopped minting equivalent value coins and efforts are being made to end the routine use of pennies in several countries including the United States.

See a penny, pick it up. All day long you’ll have good luck.

      First U.S. Penny
The United States first issued a one-cent coin produced by a private mint in 1787. Benjamin Franklin designed it. On one side, it read “Mind Your Business” and the other “We Are One.” This coin was made of 100% copper and was larger than today’s penny. It came to be known as the Fugio cent. However, the first pennies struck in a United States Mint weren’t produced until 1793, but they were also made of copper.

Pennies may not have much value these days. However, there are a few pennies that have made a mint for the owner:

1943-D: Lincoln Bronze Penny sold for $1.7 million.
1944-S: Lincoln Steel Penny sold for $373,750.
1943-S: Lincoln Penny made of Bronze sold for $282,000.
1909 VDB: Lincoln Penny sold for $258,500.
1856: Flying Eagle Penny sold for $172,500.

Why are pennies lucky? Well at one time, metals, including copper were precious material. Finding a penny was a valuable find. Sometimes finding a penny had more to do with the daily battle between good and evil. Do you only pick up a penny if it’s head side up?

Superstitions carry on from generation to generation. And with some of them the rule that says if you find a penny tail side up, you should flip it over and leave it head side up for the next lucky person to find.

On a wedding day, there’s also a saying that leads people to put a penny in the bride’s shoe. It’s more likely to lead to a blister than to bring good luck in that case.

When you are out and about, look on the ground for pennies. It just might be your lucky day!

      @shoelady60,

Good morning in the ‘burgh. Yeah I had to start a new thread. No biggie I’ve been doing
this for ten years. I can do it in my sleep. I am not in competition with anyone and never
have been. I like what I do because it all comes from my head. LOL! 😎🎈

This thread is not for everyone and it never has been people like to look and I know
this for sure. 😎🎈I wish for one thing that we had the HSN private message I miss
that feature. My reason is not to talk about others but to say something I don’t want
others to read due to privacy. I hope I said that right. LOL!

Hey friend wishing you a cool day and I know you are doing things.

Sending cool vibes to you and Jake. 😎💕

      @sheba2011

I did look yesterday and saw that it was messed up so didn’t post, not knowing where it would end up. This has been happening more frequently than years before.🤪

Very nice day, no rain for a change. Same tomorrow but hit or miss for the weekend. Just got home from an early dinner with friends so now I feel full and lazy.🥴 Plan to stop at mom’s tomorrow for a couple hours.

Hope your husband has a long weekend and you two can take it easy for a change. We always seem to be running here and there.🏃‍♀️ Yesterday I had a doe jump into my yard and decide to take it easy. She laid down for 3 hours. I didn’t want to scare her so stayed inside and kept watch through the door and window. Saw the baby fawn when she left. It couldn’t have been more than a week or two old.🥰

Hugs to you, Poppy and the kitties.🤗💖

      @shoelady60,

Good evening just relax and rest. I love the Fawn in your yard. So glad it was safe. 💕

Glad you had a great day OZ is cooling off and it feels great. 😎💕

      • 05.23.24 8:20 PM

      @sheba2011

I made it to Costco yesterday and had a great time looking around and such. I did manage to put purchase the water I so desperately needed. A nice gentleman came by as I opened the trunk and put them inside for me. Thank goodness I didn’t need to lift them. Also, I picked up a crunchy salad which is absolutely delicious. It comes with the dressing. Don’t laugh, I had some for breakfast. On the way to see Hubby I picked up vanilla custard and chocolate decadent which was the feature one for the day. Both with hot fudge. I don’t know what made hubby so happy, the ice cream or seeing me. The aid kidded him on getting the fudge on his shirt and on the sheet. Guess both wanted a taste (LOL).

I left early and had a beautiful sky with the moon. The moon was full and it emanating the clouds all around. It was very similar to one of your pictures on this thread. It had some yellows and whites. Loved it.

When I arrived home my plants had arrived along with a package that I assumed was from HSN. The plants are beautiful and the flowers gorgeous. Full bush for both and cannot wait to plant them. I picked up two huge planters from Sam’s Club in a lapis color. I was hoping for teal, but took what I could. The planters are a little large for these plants, however, if we get a bad storm during the hurricane season, the soil should hold them down. If I’m here, will bring them into the lanai prior to any storm. And speaking of packages, received one that I assumed was HSN. I don’t recall purchasing clothing, but opened it and found something that was not my taste. Looked at the label which took some time. It was from the Q and belongs to a neighbor on another street. I will drop it off with a note on my way to see hubby.

I see there is someone else having problems signing in. I think anyone who has been in the Arcade lately, should definitely check their virus software. I just have a funny feeling on this one. For once, I hope I am wrong.

I’m on my way out the door, however, I wanted to let you know that I received the pans last night from the TS. I will let you know when I return what I think of them. Howver, there have been many articles written on the new Hex Clad on MSN. com.. Sounds like people are giving them a 5 star review. Of course it depends on the manufacturer.

      Oodie

      • OODIEBOM
      • 05.24.24 3:09 AM

      @taci

The two pans are made well. When you look at them they are totally different from any other pan that food des not stick to. However, these are made in China and I did do some more exploring and asked tons of questions. Seems for now, most or all of the Hex Clad pots and pans are made in China. I checked my All Clad pots and pans and they are made in the USA, however these are all stainless steel. All Clad does use China, Germany and the United States for manufacturing and they do have the Hex Clad, but the price is out of sight.

According to what I have read, these pans can go into an oven up to 500 degrees. I’m not sure if I would trust these pans in 500 degree temps. People should be aware that the oven sometimes cooks at a higher temp. Safe to say 350 to maybe 400 would be OK. . Also, though the manufacturer says they are dishwasher safe, I would still wash by hand since most detergents are really harsh on any coating including stainless steel. I discarded all pots and pans that discolored or had pit marks as a result of using the dishwasher. The detergent used in the dishwasher is not the same as the one you use in cleaning by hand. I will be keeping these pans. Totally different from the ones purchased from Curtis Stone and is no where like the old Teflon either. It does not have the same surface as other pans I own. Cannot wait to give them a try since I enjoy stir frying.

I hope this has helped in some way. I will be picking up some freshly caught fish and will let you know how that comes out. I usually make my fish stove top. That’s so I do not over cook it. Different taste when it has not been frozen. Very sweet and moist.

      @taci,

Good evening I am so sorry I think your post went poof earlier.

Taci I hope you are feeling better and your cold is one and done.

Let me know how it is going and welcome to the new thread. Taci this is number 25.
I have had some threads that ran for over two years. LOL! I should have around 100 threads
just for Conversation and that is not counting all the others I have done in the Community.

Hey Happy Trails my friend. 😎🎈

This is my evening with hubby and be on the look out for the moon I did mentioned
that yesterday on the other thread. 💕Waving…

Sheba, Happy 25! Do you feel young now? 🙂 25 Conversations threads is no easy task. You are amazing at it and wow so many years too. If your backyard looks like the picture then it is a beauty. The Hydrangea plant that I bought last year has one bloom appearing. I am thrilled it lived a year and hope it will start to really grow. I do have a 2nd one and if it lives will plant it soon. My blooms are pink. Still congested and a bit sick. Taking it easy and stayed in for the last 3 days. Glad you like Brentwood but if you go please don’t take your valuables. Just check the news and you’ll understand what I mean.
Have you or anyone you know hiked The Camino de Santiago? I am trying to talk my hubs into it but he isn’t crazy about the idea. My son said a woman where he works did it and she’s old like me. haha, actually she is a decade younger. All ages can do it though. Maybe Ms. Heidi will want to get her groupies to to it, oh i mean a group. haha. It looks fun to me. Why have I never heard of these things in my younger years? Well, guess I was busy working.
      Have a great evening!

      @oodiebom,

Glad you had a good time at Costco. 😎🎈Oodie so much better someone was handy
      to help with the lifting.

I hope your day is going well. Oz is in the 50’s with a beautiful moon tomorrow we have
rain all weekend off and on.

No worries I have plenty to keep busy. 😎

      • TACI
      • 05.24.24 3:51 AM

Oodie. thank you for the information about the ts pots. Please keep me posted on how they wear once being used. Just about everything is made in China. I get temu adds when playing the games here at HSN, and i do not plan to order from them.
You mentioned water issues and I wanted to let you know that quite a few years ago our water smelled heavily chlorinated. Whenever they work on the water system here, apparently they load it up with chlorine.
I bring a reusable water bottle when I hike (not the famous Stanley’s, guess i am not cool enough haha) and upon opening would smell the chlorine. We decided to filter the water dispenser on the refrigerator/freezer and I also bought a PUR Pitcher. The pitcher is easy to use and you can refill it easily. You also need to buy the purifier refills at any retail store. Maybe you have seen them, but if you have not it may help you. We also test our water and both filters work well.

      Nancy Sinatra Lyrics
      “You Only Live Twice”

You only live twice or so it seems
One life for yourself and one for your dreams
You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is it’s name

And love is a stranger who’ll beckon you on
Don’t think of the danger or the stranger is gone

This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice

And love is a stranger who’ll beckon you on
Don’t think of the danger or the stranger is gone

This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice

      NATIONAL COOLER DAY

What more could you need than a cold drink for the official launch of summer? Something to keep it cold, of course! National Cooler Day, the Friday before Memorial Day, makes staying cool easy this summer.

As simple as the design of a cooler may seem, it wasn’t until the 1950s that the first cooler or “portable icebox” made the scene. In fact, the material needed to make coolers didn’t even exist until 1944.

While we rely on coolers today to keep our food and beverages cold for various outdoor activities – they do so much more. Coolers save lives during disasters by carrying food (cold or hot) to areas affected by loss of power. Sporting events, fundraisers, and parades run more smoothly when volunteers bring their coolers along. They also keep medications at the proper temperature during shipping.

Of course, the combination of durable portability makes the cooler an essential tool in many ways. It is our spare seat, prep station, and umbrella anchor, too. Despite the wear and tear endured, they faithfully provide us with an ice-cold drink on a hot day – until the beverages run out.

      NATIONAL ROAD TRIP DAY

The Friday before Memorial Day is declared National Road Trip Day and serves as the official kickoff of the summer road trip season. Millions of Americans hit the road each year over the long weekend to visit friends and family, while paying tribute to our American heroes.

OFFICIAL DESTINATION FOR NATIONAL ROAD TRIP DAY 2023
National Day Calendar traveled to Pontiac, IL, to celebrate the Official Destination for National Road Trip Day 2023.

Americans are anxious to hit the road to kick off the summer road trip season. A recent surveys suggest an overwhelming majority prefer driving as the leading choice for reaching their summer destinations. According to The Vacationer, 80 percent of Americans are going to take a road trip this summer. In fact, most are making plans for Memorial Day weekend and plan on traveling by car.

Whether you’re seeking adventure, visiting family and friends, or making a business connection, road trips are often a rite of passage. National Road Trip day is about making this vacation season all about the journey to the destination.

      Getting There
Road trips that begin and end with happy passengers are always the best. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Plan ahead. Even a spur of the moment trip requires planning. Two in five, or 42 percent of road trippers find travel apps very helpful when planning their trip. Mapping out your stops ahead of time can be a great way to save both time and money. The Pilot Flying J’s myRewards PlusTM app allows travelers to tailor their trip routes. In addition, the app helps travelers save on the go by showcasing specific amenities, fuel prices and more.
Vehicle maintenance is vital to any successful road trip. Beyond the routine maintenance, such as oil changes and sound tires, other simple checks will keep you on the road. Check your wipers and wiper fluid. Make sure your spare tire and jack are in place. Ensure all lights and signals are working. Look at the condition of your brake pads. Verify your car registration is current or not about to expire.
Plot your course. Consider construction, fuel and snack stops, shopping, and the interests of the other travelers. Prioritize your road trip for convenience and efficiency. About 58 percent of travelers want to stop at all-in-one rest stops that offer gas, food, drinks, coffee, bathrooms, and more. Grab your “road trip essential” snacks. These can include chips and salty foods, freshly made or grab-and-go foods, and fast food options.

      BROTHER’S DAY | May 24

Brother’s Day on May 24th honors the brothers in our lives. Whether we have one or many, they hold a special place in our hearts.

Even for those who don’t have one, someone in their life is usually like a brother to them. Brothers from other mothers are found in a best friend, a brother-in-law, or a cousin. They are the men in our lives we count on even when we don’t talk very often. We share memories, and challenges that frequently began with the phrase, “Watch this!” soon followed by a few stitches.

While minding their own business, they are also prepared to step in when necessary. That’s what brothers do.

Of course, they’ve been known to put toads on your head or gum in your hair. They may have been too cool for you once, too. Brothers come in many shapes and sizes and so do their relationships. Whatever yours is, take the time to celebrate your brother on Brother’s Day.

NATIONAL YUCATÁN SHRIMP DAY | MAY 24

National Yucatán Shrimp Day on May 24th celebrates a dish exploding with flavor. Plump, peel-and-eat shrimp are the centerpiece of this dish, and the flavors remind diners of the sunny summer evenings.

Shrimp lovers shouldn’t miss out on a dish like this. While the Yucatán Peninsula is further south on the Gulf of Mexico, this recipe hails from the waters along Florida’s coast. The garlic, butter, and special sauce give it a kick that keeps diners coming back for more. Serve it with crusty bread and white wine or an icy cold beer. You can almost imagine the dazzling blue waters of the Gulf and the sea breeze with every bite. And don’t forget the large, tender shrimp, too.

Good morning in S. California and I do hope you feel better soon. Taci just do what you
have to do to beat this cold. 😎🎈😘

Thank for such a sweet response to the new Thread I put my heart and soul into this thread.
This is a labor of love and you are right it takes a lot of effort and energy to do it right.
This is just a little knock around thread I came up with ten years ago. Everyone in the
Community were doing their own thing so I thought why not focus on music, fashion
and things. 😎🎈My background is all that. I hope you enjoy it every time you take a look.
Taci I have said this before many times people would private message me and say how
much they liked the thread they don’t post but they love looking and reading it. 🎈

No this thread will not change the world but I like to be different and just do what I love
to do and I am so glad I’ve made friends along the way and you and the rest of the girls
are all a part of this thread. 💕😘

Taci I have not had the pleasure of hiking or walking The Camino de Santiago.
My you are a Wonder lust. 😘💕😎 I hope you do it when the time is right.

Dare to dream of this place. Taci my backyard patio is very similar to the pic I did for you
yesterday. 😎🎈I hope you feel better soon.

Sheba, glad we heard from Xango. Oh my things have been rough for her.
I am still congested and a bit sick. Can’t get rid of it fast enough.
Since I worked a tech job for 30 years and was glued to my seat day and many nights; it’s been great to get out and stay out. Plus I worked in offices prior to that so been in lock up. 🙂

      Your backyard looks really beautiful.

      @sheba2011

I also loved the patio picture yesterday. Wouldn’t mind changing the wicker set to that one. My only concern are the hurricanes which could start at any moment.

The two plants I purchased are absolutely beautiful. I took a chance ordering on line and I will be letting the vendor know how much I am enjoying them. I decided to contact the people who do our lawn and have them transplant them where they can get full sun. that’s a huge choice since the front and back of our home get full sun all day. The flowers are red and coral. I hope the hummingbirds and butterflies enjoy the nectar. Will be fun to sit back and watch.

Yes, I am reading again. It’s a mystery novel by Faye Hellerman, “Killing Season.” Both she and her husband, Jonathan, are writers. Even their son writes every now and then. I just wish hubby would pick up a book every now and then. He has started many stories only to put it down after a couple of chapters. Me, I love being transported to different venues. It’s like being there in person. and what a wonderful way to have a vacation without leaving home or in my case, hubby’s rehab room.

It is very hot and muggy. Temp is almost 95 degrees with high humidity. No rain in sight for the next 10 days or so. I am being very careful what I wish for. I do not think there is one Floridian looking forward to hurricane season. The season begins June 1st and goes to the end of November, though things seem to drop off by the middle of that month.

Hope you and Poppy enjoy tonight. The moon was lovely last night. Huge with a bit of yellow. I surmise it was either a bright red or orange as it rose in the East against the setting sun in the West. Hubby’s room faces the street. I surmise your hubby has the entire weekend off. The grill sounds nice. Take care and stay safe.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening I watched the moon all night as it came to my bedroom window perfectly. 😘💕
Hubby and I will be doing the little things the kids have some plans this summer.

I hope you are enjoying your time with hubby I can’t wait for him to come home.

I am listening to the music of my parents Simon and Garfunkel I love their fantastic
harmony. I can listen to the songs all day. My mom still loves their music. 💕

I don’t go far from home when it gets really dark too many wild animals are coming to the
area and they want Poppy. I promise you that is not going to happen so we go in early
evening when the sky and moon becomes one. 😘

Look up at the moon I will be waving. 😎

Hi Sheba, it’s been an unbelievable experience. I got discharged from the hospital Wednesday. During all this time I have gone through several operations and procedures. Had infections, bleeding and so much more.
In the process got organs taken out.
Well I am home trying to get better and working on eating some solid foods. Not there yet, only liquids and soups.
My poor hubby had to do so much for me, getting up early going to the hospital. Working and seeing me at night. This week he took off for my discharge, it’s so good to be home.
I read you are grilling, have a nice piece of whatever for me. 😊

      The Dangling Conversation
      Song by Simon & Garfunkel

      It’s a still life watercolor
      Of a now-late afternoon
As the sun shines through the curtain lace
      And shadows wash the room
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference, like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
      In the dangling conversation
      And the superficial sighs
      The borders of our lives
And you read your Emily Dickinson
      And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with book markers
      That measure what we’ve lost
      Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm
      Couplets out of rhyme
In syncopated time (in syncopated time)
      And the dangling conversation
      And the superficial sighs
Are the borders of our lives
Yes, we speak of things that matter
With words that must be said
      “Can analysis be worthwhile?”
      “Is the theater really dead?”
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow, I cannot feel your hand
You’re a stranger now unto me
      Lost in the dangling conversation
      And the superficial sighs
In the borders of our lives

NATIONAL TAP DANCE DAY | May 25

On May 25 during National Tap Dance Day, we pay tribute to one of America’s original dancing art forms.

Tap dance is a percussive dance dating back to the early 1800s, with a combination of primarily influences of African and Irish heritage.

Incorporating complex rhythmic step combinations, tap dance performers often expressed enormous amounts of character through sound and body movement. From clogging to buck and wing styles, soft-shoe to the sand step, and a little bit of jazz, tap dancing evolved from a stiff Irish jig to the bodily Cakewalk and vocal Ring-shout.

      Famous Tap Dancers
      Bill “Bojangles” Robinson
      Fred Astaire
      Gregory Hines
      Ginger Rogers
Each of these performers added their own flair to a dance style that continues to influence film, music and stage.

Another dance similar to tap dance is called soft-shoe. While still rhythmic, the sound is muffled since tap shoes are not necessary to perform the steps. Many of the dance steps in tap transfer to soft-shoe making the two very compatible.

The popular Shim Sham of the vaudeville era became a line dance in the 1980s.

      NATIONAL WINE DAY

On May 25th each year, wine lovers everywhere pour a glass of their favorite wine to celebrate National Wine Day. Whether it is Red or White, the sound of glassing “clinking” will be heard around the world today.

Made from fermented grapes or other fruits, wine is an alcoholic beverage. During the fermentation processes, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol. Different grapes produce different wines. Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors. Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used.

Red wine varietals produce deep ruby reds as well as subtle ambers and browns. Their beautiful colors hint at the coming change in the season. With that, we can look for delicious menu changes, too. Besides, what better way to enjoy a great bottle of wine than by pairing it with excellent company and food.

Winemakers produce white wines from grapes with light yellow-green skins or light red skins. However, it’s not the color of the grapes that give the wine its color. It’s the tannins in the grape skins that color wine red and also the flavor. White wines are generally sweeter than red wines and are best served chilled. Most red wines are served at room temperature. However, a sweet red should also be chilled for the best flavor.

      TOWEL DAY

Observed annually by fans of Douglas Adams, Towel Day commemorates the work of the author most known for his series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

First and foremost, it’s important to note for those who are unfamiliar with Douglas Adams, according to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”

And that’s mighty important. Even we mere Earthly hitchhikers require towels for many immensely useful purposes. We dry our furry pets and roll towels neatly into coordinated rows. On long trips, they ease the kinks in our necks. Even our tiny humans use them to dry off after taking a swim. Though, perhaps not very effectively. It can also offer shade on a sunny day.

We’ve found that towels in small forms are effective for sport, too. Golfers and bowlers use them. Add a small towel to a footballer’s hip and call it a flag or wave a white one in a battle to surrender.

In an emergency, a towel can stop bleeding or can carry the wounded. It also can cool a fever. Wrap it around you on a cool day. Wash a car or wipe up the oil. A really large towel might suffice for a toga party. However, in reality, it probably wouldn’t.

The list of options goes on both here on Earth and beyond in every galaxy. The important lesson of the day is, don’t leave home without your towel.

Happy holiday to you!✨ We just got home from a surprise “open house” birthday party for a friend. Looks like storms are moving in for this afternoon and evening.⛈ Tomorrow may be okay but more again on Monday.

It was great to hear from Xango. I hope her and her husband can have a relaxing holiday.

So nice to hear you are going to Leavenworth to honor your family and the fallen. We have a large cemetery fairly close to our home that has a Memorial Day ceremony every year. As long as the weather holds up we normally attend. As you know, hubs is a veteran so it means a lot to him.😌

Enjoy your weekend, holiday hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

Shoelady, Thanks for the well wishes. Still congested but hubs is making me go out tomorrow. haha. I don’t really cook too much so they will be used to it here, but I always offer salads and broccoli. Yah, not the most popular one on the block. Although once a kid was at our house years ago and he had to call his Mom to ask if he could eat a cupcake. So I could be worse.
Enjoy the weekend and Military Service if you are able to get to it. Thank Mr. Shoey for his Service for me!

      @sheba2011

Another sunny and beautiful day on the Gulf Coast. The temp is in the mid 80s and will probably hit the 90s soon. High humidity. Hardly a breath of air. I am about to shower and to visit hubby.
Before I forget, I did order Andrew’s Efficient in the Cranberry and Pomegranate. I’m impressed. Going to bring a packet for hubby to try.

I was going to plant the Dipladenia plants in a planter yesterday. I found two planters in our shed that were OK. The color was wrong, but they would work. So I put a planter by the driveway to see how it would look and I liked it. Went into the house to get a pair of scissors and brought the plant up front only to find that someone had stolen the planter. That will teach me never to bring anything up front until I have everything together. I then contacted the people who do our lawn and they will be out in a few days. He mentioned that they would do best in ground and will take care of the two plants for me. I am thrilled.

So happy to see a post from xango. I hope and pray that this is the beginning of better days for both of them. It had to be difficult for her husband to try and juggle work and seeing her on a daily basis. I wonder if this had something to do with her fall last year in the supermarket.

Hubby is receiving Physical Therapy daily. He wears a brace on the left foot for support. He says he will walk again and not to bother with a ramp. Hmm……I think a ramp is a good idea. It will keep me from falling and tripping up and down those steep steps.

I am still doing KP in the kitchen. Everytime I use Clean Boss I become more and more impressed. The top of our stove looks brand new and this is the first time I can say that. Unfortunately, I still have not been able to use the new dishwasher. The plumber will finally be here sometime after the weekend. Meanwhile I am doing handwashing which does take time and not a happy camper knowing that it will all need to be really sanitized in the dishwasher later. To re-empty the cabinets is not my cup of tea.

I am totally impressed with the new Hex Clad pans that were a TS last week. Though made in China, they are sturdy and everything comes out perfect. The heating element is what I am most impressed with. The bottom of the pan heats everything at the same time. Cleaning is a pleasure. And the top and bottom do fit nicely together where one becomes a cover. Hubby enjoys an omelet now and then, so the two pans will come in handy at that time. Though they can go into the oven at 500 degrees, I will keep it way under. I like using the temps between 350 and 375. I think Taci would be impressed. I started looking at these pans in Amazon when they were first introduced by Chef Ramsey. Several months later Costco had three pans in stock for $70 +. I thought the price was too high and at the time did not understand the concept. My thoughts were that they were nothing more than a regular easy to clean pan. Little did I know. Cannot wait to try my Asian cooking skills in these pans.

Here’s to a great Memorial weekend. Would love to be at your home to enjoy the grilling by your mastery chef. Someday, I hope and pray that we will be doing just that in our own backyards. Like you, I cannot wait to bring hubby home. There will be much to celebrate on that day. Stay safe. Enjoy the moonlight and the stars as you walk with Poppy.

Remember the old saying that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” It takes time to heal especially in the inside. Soup is great. You can add veggies and let them soften. You can puree some things as well and also make smoothies to help your immune system. I am sure the hospital gave you a list and some suggestions before they sent you home. As I said many times. I just wish I knew where you lived so I could come by to make sure you were all right. I definitely need a fix at the Asian market, but the traffic tie ups keeps me away.

Hubby is still in rehab. His mind is good. His legs not so. He is finally getting PT on a daily basis. He has a brace on the bad leg which offers the support. The other leg is starting to look good. After this weekend I will be trying to take him out for a ride and to show him several places that he may enjoy. Not so sure if I will be able to get him out of the car and into a wheelchair at this point. He is dead weight and needs to relearn how to get from Point A to B.

Great you are home. Don’t overdo anything. Just let your body heal. Missed ya.

      NATIONAL FAMILY FUN DAY

Today is May 28 and the Sunday before Memorial Day at National Day Calendar and we are celebrating National Family Fun Day. This National Day is encouraging families to celebrate everywhere to create some family fun during the long weekend and every day!

People across the U.S. use Memorial Weekend as the time to begin summer fun. Families are camping for the first time this season, attending graduations, and having family reunions. National Family Fun Day is your reminder that you don’t have to plan a huge event to enjoy today’s National Day.

We know that not everyone has opportunity to plan a get away. Some people work, some may not be able to afford a long vacation for their family, and some people are too exhausted to go on a weekend getaway. National Family Fun Day presents a unique opportunity for families to create their own fun and make memories. No matter where they are. Let’s celebrate National Family Fun Day and enjoy the day with our family. In fact, we are going to explain how you can have a family fun day close to home.

NATIONAL BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE DAY | MAY 26

On May 26th, two of the calendar’s favorite foods come together on National Blueberry Cheesecake Day. We’ve scattered blueberries and cheesecakes throughout these pages in scrumptious celebration. But one day a year they join forces in perfect, delicious harmony.

History of Blueberries and Cream Cheese
There was a time when people only gathered blueberries from the wild. It wasn’t until the early 1900s through the observations of Elizabeth Coleman White and the research of Dr. Frederick V. Coville that successful transplanting and domestication of the blueberry became possible. It wasn’t long after that commercial production of the blueberry began.

Combine the history of the blueberry with the development of cream cheese, some might consider the blueberry cheesecake to be a truly American dessert. While recipes for cheesecake served athletes in ancient Greece, cream cheese has been a part of American’s dessert making since about the 1820s. However, after the advent of pasteurization, mass production became possible. One dairy farmer from Chester, New York, decided to be the first. William A. Lawrence purchased a Neufchatel factory to begin his production and in 1873 the first mass-produced cream cheese became a reality.

      Types of Cheesecakes
Either way, this smooth dessert hits the spot when dessert time rolls around. While most cakes have a crumb, cheesecake’s texture is nothing like cake. Indeed, its creamy, thick pudding-like character comes from the soft cheese used as the main ingredient. Depending on the recipe, bakers use either cream cheese or cottage cheese. When the cheese is mixed with sugar, eggs, and other ingredients, the batter is added to a crust. Either add the blueberries now or save them for a beautifully fresh and vibrant topping.

When making cheesecake, one of the most common crusts used is a graham cracker crust. Other options include a cookie crust, pastry or sponge cake. However, some cheesecakes are crustless. Depending on the recipe, cheesecakes may be prepared baked or unbaked.

NATIONAL PAPER AIRPLANE DAY | MAY 26

On May 26th each year, National Paper Airplane Day honors the simple aeronautical toy that has been around for thousands of years.

National Paper Airplane Day provides an excuse to play! This inexpensive, healthy, and stimulating form of entertainment brings lots of joy, too. In other words, put down your smartphones and get outside for some primitive fun!

      Did you know?
Many believe the use of paper airplanes originated 2,000 years ago in China.
The earliest known date of the creation of modern paper planes was said to have been 1909.
The largest paper aircraft had a wingspan of 59.74 ft. Students and employees from Germany created it on 28th September 2013.
Joe Ayoob recorded the longest distance flown by a paper airplane in February 2012. His plane flew 226 feet, 10 inches.
The longest-lasting paper airplane flight flew 29.2 seconds.

      @xango,

Good afternoon in Florida. Xango if you are sleeping or resting just be well. 😎🎈😘
Check in when you are able to and Oz had a really bad storm last night.

I don’t think I would want you to have this storm. Xango late last night and at dawn
the storm came it tore down my neighbor across the street wooden fence. Hubby and I
went out in daylight to look at the damage and all we have are a few missing things out
of the yard. I checked on our elderly neighbor who lives alone right next door to us
he said he was so worried he sat up all night. The storm was intense tree debris is everywhere.

Poppy and I had to jump over tree branches and then some right now it is close to noon
here and I have to do some things I don’t know what other areas near me look like.
Many people are still without power holy smoke this is not the day to be without power.

Wishing you and hubby a nice Sunday just relax and heal. 🎈

Thank god the cats are alright one came to me this morning. 💕

      @oodiebom,

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈Oodie a lot is going on in OZ.
We did have a bad storm in the dawn hours today. We have branches and other things
all over the yard. Neighbor across the street from our house his wooden fence that was
beautiful is torn apart and on the ground this fence is from the front of his yard to the
back and goes all around his house.

I am calling my neighbor the female professor who I am very close to and tell her that
her house is in tact. My friend is at her lake house in the Ozarks. I hope she is careful driving
because we will have more storms later in the week. I have seen worse this morning on
the national news all we can do is pray for all the people affected. A lot lost things and some
lost lives my heart goes out to their families.

I do hope you get some rain sometimes you don’t get enough and then you get too much.

Moving on I am multi-tasking today helping hubby get things back to normal. I am thankful
all my neighbors and State is alright.

I hope you and your husband have a nice Sunday. 😎🎈Glad he is getting the PT.

I hope when you fix your Asian Food in your new cookware it turns out perfect. 💕

Oz is getting warmer now it’s not too bad yet. 😎 Let me know how your day goes Oodie.

Lady we had debris everywhere I am thankful no one was hurt. My elderly neighbor

years ago. I always check on him.

Lady enjoy the day with your hubby and thank him for his service to our country. 😎🎈

Glad you are safe. We had bad storms also yesterday afternoon and evening. Tornado warnings again.🌪 More storms tonight into tomorrow morning, this is getting ridiculous.😖 Maybe there was a micro-burst that took your neighbor’s fence down. That happened to us a couple years ago and took some trees out.

Laying low today. The food from the birthday party, although good, didn’t sit well with me last night.😝 I’ve been up since 4:00 AM. Busy week ahead so need to catch up on sleep. I’ll probably fall asleep watching the hockey game.🏒😴

BTW, you need those two jackets with the sunflower and butterfly on them in honor of Oz and your father.🙏 Hope you get everything cleaned up, hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

I posted all the designs for that one jacket. I think they are really cool. 😎

Hubby and I were busy today and I am jumping into the shower before another storm
comes back. Lady when a elderly man tells you he did not sleep in his bed and he lives
right next door to you that is saying how bad the storm was. The friend told me he did
not want to go to sleep with all the noise if something happened he wanted a chance
to make it out of the house. My husband was up but I went to sleep I was worried about
      the cats.

This is where I will be tomorrow afternoon. 🎈😎 Sending Memorial Day hugs to you
      and your husband. 😘🎈

Good morning in California Kitten wishing you and your family a nice Memorial Day. 🎈💕

Sheba, Sounds like you had some awful storms. I don’t know how those cats handle rain, snow and storms. I stayed inside most of the day because my congestion is now a sore throat.
Did you get a dg Jean Jacket? I have a Levi’s jean jacket that is almost 30 years old. I don’t wear it but may have to start again. Gifted it to my hubs but we can share. He probably doesn’t remember. The sunflower and butterfly jackets were my fav.
      Have a great evening!

      @taci,

Good evening I have both the jackets in my favorites I have my eye on them. I do have
the DG Jeans that would look great with them. 💕😎

Taci you have a good eye for jewels and fashion. 💕🎈

I was hoping someone would say something about the jackets that was the reason
I posted all the designs for that one jacket. I would get both. 💕😎

Yeah the storms can be hard and I keep an eye out for them. I don’t think they are
scared of the racoon they don’t seem to care but when they are eating and it runs up
on them they all run away. I am going to talk to our Vet about this.

I hope you feel better soon sounds like it is leaving your body. Taci good thing you are
strong and healthy the first time I caught the flu it was the worst thing that ever happened
to me I think I slept through it. The second time I caught it 20 years later I went to the
ER and was given Tamflu a script and told if I did not take it that night I would feel worse.
I took that pill and slept like a baby I felt so much better and I have worn a mask ever since.

I hope you get some good rest tonight.

      Happy Memorial Day. 🎈

      @sheba2011

I read about the devastation in Oklahoma and immediately went to HSN and found you had just started the thread. Seeing you there I knew you were OK, but nothing was mentioned on line anywhere about OZ. I did know you may be hit with some severe thunderstorms and wondered how Poppy would be and the kitties you see on a daily basis. That kitty you saw this morning may be ready for a pet on the head or back. I have a feeling that he or she may be shy but will let you near. I know and feel there are more storms on the horizon. And that goes for us on the Gulf Coast. I am hoping that hubby and I will be able to travel North where it is a bit safer during this time of year. Thankfully, you and your neighbors are OK.

I haven’t seen hubby the last couple of days. I worked on the kitchen and got some much needed rest. If I took a break and sat anywhere, I noticed that I had fallen asleep for a few hours and then some. The kitchen is beginning to look real good. I cannot wait to try those new pans out. I will be going through the cabinet where the pots and pans are. I do have a few new ones to unbox as well. But these two, are stainless steel with a ceramic coating to make whatever you cook to be perfect and best of all, no sticking to the pan. Of course it will take no time to clean. This is one of the few times that HSN has offered something useful at a low price. It’s a customer pick!! I have all the ingredients for a nice stir fry and will definitely give these a try within a day or two.

Please stay safe. Maybe Poppy should use his favorite tree until things are cleared. I don’t want to hear that you tripped over something. Maybe you should carry your cell, just in case.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening you are so funny. I have never tripped on anything in my life. I slipped on Ice
I did not know was there I never want to do that again. I jumped over the tree debris with
Poppy I am very agile. What worries me is a neighbor’s son went running and a live wire
almost fell on him and people stopped to make sure he was alright he is fine.

I let Poppy go to his spot in the back on really bad storm days and we will have many of
      them tis the season. Sigh..

I read a lot of sadness with the other storms that took lives and property. I know you can’t
control mother nature. All the animals are fed for the night hubby will feed them in the
morning. Hey sometimes I wish I could get a tax write off for the food I provide. I think
everything you do comes back to you so it’s alright. 😎 I have learned how to budget
really well I don’t need a lot of things so that money goes for the animals to eat.

The tabby cat is the cat from next door she knows me. The neighbor gave her to some
neighbors up the street but lately she has been coming to me. I have known this cat
since the day the original owner brought her home she is fixed and has a twin sister who
is gray. This neighbor travels the all over Europe and I have cat sat for him while they are
gone. The cats were his daughter but she has up and moved back to her mother.
Every time she sees me rolls on her back so I can rub her belly. I love doing it. 😎 If I see
her out on a bad night I am bringing her in the house. 💕

I am so glad you are getting some much needed rest. I was wondering about that.

Enjoy this evening and I hope it is cool right now. 🎈

There have been times while visiting hubby that I take the Kindle Fire with me. It enables him to read the news and gives me sometime to enjoy a jigsaw or two. On several occasions there have been some ads. These have been extremely helpful and I am passing them on to you. One of the ads showed a seat that goes all the way down to the floor and rises to 21.” This seat comes with a remote and the entire thing is waterproof. I thought it would be great in a shower or in a tub. It will also give hubby some mobility using the stove instead of sitting in the wheelchair, though he would have to be able to move from one thing to the other. The other thing was a wheelchair that goes over the toilet. This one may be the best for us when traveling North. Both will come in handy if hubby is unable to walk, but can stand on the good foot to move around. Only time will tell if he will have any mobility. Both of these ideas may help you until you are able to move better and be without pain. On the walker. Do you have one that enables you to sit down and has four wheels with a brake. Amazon has these as well as some of your Medical suppliers. I found that the medical people are also on Amazon.

Take care of yourself and be well. I’m doing a happy dance knowing you are now home.

      @oodiebom,
That’s very thoughtful of you, thank you. Hopefully you will have your hubby home soon. All those items are great ideas, useful and handy.
Hubby said the temperature outside is very hot. Well, he gets hot in the Sun after he had his triple bypass. Must be all those wires inside him😀.
He is taking good care of me, no complaints. He reminds me of you, strong, determined, and nothing is going to stop him.
      Take care.

I am sorry to hear about the big storm you are your area had. It’s horrible that it had to happen on this holiday weekend when so many just want to relax or attend an activity. Being without power is even worst.
I am glad the kitty cats are coming to get food after such a huge storm. And glad you have power.
      Becareful out there Sheba.
      Take care

      @xango,

I just finished feeding all the cats and I have three. 😘😎The Racoon will not go away.
I have told my neighbor they live under his deck. I will call animal control again after
the holidays. I want all the critters to be safe.

Get well my friend and you and hubby enjoy this weekend. 😎🎈

      Goodnight.
