We purchased a condo in S Florida to,spend the winter 2 years ago. This is our second winter here. Sounded like a very good idea, and I got a good deal on my condo.
Now my hubby is pretty ill with stage 4 melanoma, so I want to sell my north home and just have one place. (He won’t be able to do back and forth anymore).
But I don’t want to be in the condo. Just too many rules and restrictions. It’s ok for 3 months a year, but not year round. Also not much privacy.
I would like to live in th south because I’m done with winters in the north. So, I’m asking for any suggestions on nice active 55 plus communities that have single family houses. Affordable and in low crime rates. I did search on line, and there are many, but hearing first had from people who live in such communities is best.
I’m opened to northern Florida (my condo is in south Florida), or South Carolina.
I believe this time around it will be my last move so the more info I have the better. Our budget is 200,000. I need something affordable because if something does happen to my DH, income will lessen. That’s another reason I don’t want to have 2 homes.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
4kitties. That’s a good idea!! I never thought of that. Thanks for such a good suggestion.
I tried to post the before..Another glitch in this messy place!
Try the banks in the area you want to be in..
I say that because a friend of mine passed( he had no family) The house was not paid off..So the bank too the house back.
Banks usually don’t want to “own” a house..you might get a bargain.
My friend lived in an over 55 community the house was beautiful..It was in Venice Florida.
Thanks so much for your reply. Yes talking directly with the agents is a very good idea. I appreciate your suggestions and well wishes very much!!
It really saddens me to hear how ill your DH is.
Just a suggestion:
After selling and buying many residences in the U.S.A., and abroad, I
found the best way is to personally call and speak with various real
estate agents, & Community Developers, based in the vicinity you are
thinking of relocating to in Florida.
Explain what your personal needs & preferences are, & clearly emphasize
your absolute budget, because many times you may say you desire affordable
& have $200,000.00 to buy a single family home in a 55+ over Floridian
Community, but unless you are rigid & state you do not want to view anything
higher than your maximum price range of $200,000.00, so you will not be
inundated with receiving information for too many currently listed Floridian
properties, well above your maximum affordable “fixed price range of
I wish you both much good luck with everything, and Happy House Hunting!
