Blind Dates
Has anyone been on a blind date? If so, how did it work out?

Disaster…never did it again. Enough said.

Once in 1978, and never again. A coworker’s husband had a friend that had one thing in common with me. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to make things fun or interesting. Mostly he was too nerdy for me. He called me back for a second date, but I turned him down. At my aunt’s suggestion, I gave him the number of her best friend’s daughter, but I don’t think he called her.

I once met up with a man who claimed to be of the Romanoff family. He was fat, old and ugly. We met up in NYC and he spent an hour or so detailing how exactly he was sick to his stomach after something.
Then there was this guy who took me to a vegetarian (vegan?) place
Then there was this guy who spent at least a couple hours – all in a beautiful sunny park! telling me about his problems with his Father that his psychoanalyst uncovered in him.
Then there was this guy who had some severly autistic crazy son; so crazy that he could not meet at his house for like ever, etc; oh, he was also allergic to cats. I mean, he was a decent fellow, but I cannot see how it could possibly work, between my cat and his son.
Then there was this guy who tried to get me to have sex with him in a church in a confession booth(?!) – don’t remember how we wound up there, probably were walking along the street it was on or something.
What can I say, I’ve been attempting to find somebody off the INternet for a while. Used to get a few responses now and then when i was younger and thinner. Not anymore, at all, so I gave up.

Once in New York City. Meet this great looking greek guy and we spent the day
in Central Park and St. Patrick’s Cathedral had a great day.
Never saw him after that one day.

Hi Snow! My parents met in the 1950s on a blind date, to a dance. Both of their best friends started dating, and thought my parents would like each other. The other couple wound up marrying as well, and both couples were lifelong friends.
As for my match making ability for setting friends up on blind dates, it was always horrible! There are probably people answering this same blind date question out there somewhere right now saying, "I’ll never forget the time my friend Karen got the crazy idea to….".

If only they could of remembered Its Not My Fault! I didnt set this up! Now take me home!:smileyvery-happy:

Four or five years ago, one of my girlfriends gave my number to a single (divorced) guy that she knew. He called me and we spoke on the phone for two weeks. He sounded like a nice guy, interesting fun conversation. Then we made a date to meet each other at a restaurant close to where I live. It was the middle of summer, so I waited outside. I was texting a friend while I waited. When I looked up, I saw this clumsy looking male with an overgrown beard lumbering toward me. His shirt was totally faded out and his cargo shorts looked like he’d picked them out of a hamper, all wrinkled. At first, I thought it was a homeless guy! He asked me if I was so and so. When I said yes, he didn’t shake my hand or even smile. After we were seated inside the restaurant, his phone continuously blew up, he excused himself several times to go to the restroom, and only talked about the fireplace that was in the restaurant. When we finished eating, I told him I had to go to my parent’s house to help them move some patio furniture. Then I got into my car and raced away.
Never again!
Sorry for the length.

The first of my two blind dates was with an extremely nerdy guy with a bow tie. His family owned a computer parts manufacturing company. I had been working 80 hour weeks. Dinner was a snooze fest and I fell asleep sometime between the second and third course. After that I thought I would never hear from him again but he became a stalker of sorts. It ended badly after he threw a container of homemade chicken soup on top of my prized 67 Mustang that I’d had since high school.
My second blind date was with a bad boy type who a co-worker set me up with. I should have realized that things were not going to go well when he was over an hour late meeting me. At the time, I was too embarrassed to get up and walk out of the restaurant alone so I stayed there waiting. He finally showed up and we were engaged two weeks later. The marriage lasted over a decade and we have two wonderful children and grand children…so it was worth it.
As far setting other up on blind dates, I set up a coworker with my then husband’s confirmed bachelor cousin. They hit it off and are still married. Several years later I setup my best friend with our corporate attorney and they were engaged in a week. They are still together too!

I would never do it myself, but my best friend goes on blind dates pretty often. So far, it has never turned into a love connection, but at least she has had no horror stories yet. Usually one or the other just isn’t interested in the other romatically.
