Please don’t post anything on this thread. I’m about to start Just Playin’ Around — 3. Be sure and catch up on all the posts on this thread, then head on over to the new one and start the hilarity all over again. See you there!
Hi All, Had a wonderful but busy day today. Looks as if yo had a good time. That is great. Thanks for the congrats! Yeah, my pictures will post. Have a good one!:womanhappy:
I just popped in to day goodnight. Nothing much happening
around here. All the birds, **BLEEPER** and the Harem and
all the little animals have not been around today. It has been
raining for the past 24 hours. Will try a longer post tomorrow.
Gods blessing to all of you.
Hey, y’all. Time to make a mint julep, pull up a bench to the veranda, and listen to a story.
Being from the South, I am quite aware of all the things that make a Proper Southern Gentleman. However, I am somewhat lacking in some of these things. Now, some of them I couldn’t hide (like not being a hunter), but others I could keep covered with lies and deception (like not being a college football fanatic). But there is one, a deep dark secret shame, that haunted me for years, and one I had to keep hidden at all cost lest I be branded a **bleep** Yankee and ran out of the South on a rail north across the Mason-Dixon line. That, dear readers, was my dislike for grits.
Now, let me pause for a few lines to let the delicate Southern ladies that just fainted from the vapors to recover from that.
I, a man from the South, disliked grits. Now, before y’all get all upset and such, let me explain a couple of things- first of all, it was a dislike. I didn’t HATE them, I just never particularly LIKED them. Second of all, my dear old mother is not to blame- she tried in vain for years to get me to like them. Now, all of Mama’s cooking was as Southern as Dixie, and I loved it- fried chicken, pork chops, green beans with hamhocks, biscuits (not those fluffy Yankee kind that come in a can, the Southern kind- you know what I’m talking about- made from Crisco and flour), and macaroni and cheese (again, real elbow macaroni with Velveeta cheese- not that fake Commie powdered stuff from the box). I just never went for the grits. She never said anything, but I think sometimes at dinnertime I could see a faint hint of something in her eyes, something akin to pity and maybe a little bit of shame.
For you Yankees and such that don’t know what grits are, they are a meal made from ground corn call hominy. It’s white and, despite the name, is not gritty at all. Southerners eat it by itself, or put butter, cheese, and whatever else suits their fancy on it. Now, you Northerners don’t comment here and tell me you know what they are- I was once in Washington D.C. as a young’un, and we stopped at a cafe. There on display, in it’s own area of the case partitioned off from the other food, was a single bowl of something white marked simply GRITS, as if it were a newly-found specimen of moonrock recently put on display at the Smithsonian.
I was able to keep my dislike of grits this hidden for years. Well, the truth has a way of coming to the light, and as the preachers say, the truth shall set you free. One day a decade or so back, my wife and I had stopped at a Waffle House with a friend of mine. (Waffle Houses are a Southern staple as well, though I believe they have been spreading northward and westward in the past few years). My friend, being a good Alabama boy, decided to order grits. I ordered something else (I don’t remember, but it was probably hash browns). He asked my wife if she had ever tried grits, and if she would like to. She did, and she liked them. At that point, my brain was too occupied with other thoughts, perhaps finishing the pile of hash browns, but I casually remarked to my friend that I had never liked grits. I believe it is a true testament to his mental fortitude that he did not reach across the table and punch my lights out right then and there. Instead, he offered me a bite. I tried it, and… well, something must have changed, because I found that I LIKED them. They were actually GOOD.
Nowadays, me and grits are on much better terms. When Easter time rolls around and the Catholic churches are having fish fries, I will gladly have a plate of shrimp and grits. I still prefer oatmeal for breakfast, but I think to re-establish my Southern credentials, I should start having a bowl now and then.
Yeah, that sounds good. Maybe with cinnamon…
SocialButterfly, have you noticed that every time that you smile, you give 2 smiles. That’s one of the perks that comes with the Pro1 Rank. It will go away when you become Pro2. Then when you get to Pro3, every smile you make will give out 3 smiles.
DR, Bill created this pic yesterday… (It could be an older photo) but because I live under the rock I only saw it today!:smileywink: there’s a link when you can add rainbow overlay to any of your pictures to show your support and celebration of this decision.
We came back from the FIRST SWIM OF THE YEAR!!!!! The water was fantastic and swimming made us hungry! I need to go cook something.
Talking about grits. I am not a fan of adding a lot of extras to grits. All I do is add cold water, some GARLIC SALT and pack of instant grits. Bring to boil and stir at low boiling for 1 min. DELISH! I cannot imagine eating grits with cheese, sugar, butter, etc. IMO that spoils good grits.
Oops — and I forgot to add, I think DubuqueRams has a good idea about waiting another day to start a new thread. Look for it tomorrow!!
@boodlemum – I haven’t figured out if I’m a boy dog or a girl dog yet, so I’m not sure about the dresses. Also, I’m MUCH bigger than the model in the picture, so please make sure they come in larger sizes….or at least will slip over my nose.
@Marcy – I’m so glad you chose the HSN forum to "test the waters" of social media! You add a lot of fun to this thread!
@dubuquerams & SB — Bill Green’s picture looks like Facebook — they were allowing people to overlay the rainbow flag on profile pictures to show pride/support for the Supreme Court Decision.
Hi JMC, Joyous and Rachel! I don’t think I’ve said hello directly before! I’ve had a tough time chasing puppies lately so I’m not on the forums much, but I shure have enjoyed your posts!!
herndon, I’ve been shopping for you. I think this would make a really cute chauffeur dress:
and then you could change into this for the wedding/reception:
unless it’s one of those formal Texas do’s:
I appreciate all of you who answered my question on BB. I did not want to open a can of worms. I had no clue you could be banned from the posting. Apparently I did not read the rules correctly or just didnt understand them’LOL" I am a bit slow at times. I do not do facebook, instagram, twitter etc. This is the only socializing I do right here at HSN forums. Im shocked that I do this. You all just make feel so comfortable to YAK! Enough Said Im gonna play Klondike. "LATER"
I hope Bill does not mind me reposting this image since he shared this publically with all his friends! WE LOVE YOU, BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!:heart::heart:
I see that there are some people not fans of GREAT SOUTHERN GRITS….. It is all because you have never tried MY instant grits from the packages… Add boiling water and all…. Those are the best grits ever!!!! :smileylol::heart: True Southern Gourmet!!
I just dropped in to check on the thread, and I see we are on page 99 — I think it’s time to start a new thread before we get locked out of this one. Plus, it’s been lagging when I try to open it, so I really think we need to start fresh.
But I don’t want to anyone to miss SB’s lovely pictures and DubuqueRams WONDERFUL news about Beautyboy and his partner (see the bottom of the page).
How about I wait until later tonight to start the 3rd JPA???
G’day y’all, blocks and sheilas!
It is a beautiful day in ATL. In fact, so nice – we started early and hubby is exhausted. I guess he’s got the same sleeping bug I had for 2 days. We still plan to do something fun later on, we’ll see how it goes.
I am so happy for BB that he HAS A CHOICE now. Whether he gets married or not, sooner or later it is fantastic that most important thing is finding the right person. Not the law. I would be super-excited and honored to be part of his wedding. BB, if you are reading this – we love you and celebrating with you. Chairman sends you all his love. BTW, Bill Green shared a WONDERFUL picture of himself, celebrating the same very thing. Bill is OUR FAVORITE HOST!!!!!!:heart::heart: Love always wins!!!!
Congrats to all Klondikers breaking new score barriers. Marcy, I saw your question about who BB is. He is one of original founders of this group. He is a great friend and very helpful and knowledgeable about many subjects; he is fun to talk to, we all miss him greatly. To know him is to love him.
Ok, now a lil bit about our simple redneck-folk fun weekend :smileylol: We went to see musical "Les Miserables", had awsome food, went dancing at the club (very late last night) and had a small picnic at the pool this morning. Did not go swimming yet, but it looks like in a couple of hours we’ll do just that. Our favorite theatre won a Tony Award for outstanding acheivments in culture and arts of Atlanta. Viva Alliance!!! On photos in the theatre – Alexis Bittar Plum Santa Fe Star set + plum orchid in the hair; at the pool – Alexis Bittar Maldivian collection with iolite; both full sets. Please do tell about your wekends!!! LOVE TO ALL!!!
I am still trying for that 74,000 Klondike game…I have lost my score and tickets on a couple of games..don’t know what causes it…good thing I don’t need tickets . (my rank joke was actually pulled on me when I received a promotion at work.)
