HSN IS A SCAM AND HERE IS WHY
I purchased the 6 inch mattress topper from Concierge collection item # 484-137.
This was my first and last purchase from this scam company.
Nothing that the lady stated about this item as it was airing were true. I call this “False Advertising” and it’s illegal HSN! This item is crap. The worst is when I tried to review the item to save another consumer from this costly mistake. It would not allow me to do so saying “Our records indicate you have not purchased this item”??????? What??????? After spending 45 minutes on call I finally gave up. They sell crappy products but then make it hard for consumers to review. Hmmmmmmmm.
The reviews that people were already able to make are up in the 50’s for negative 1 star reviews and most of the other products offered by this same company have bad reviews. Then why would HSN continue to sell such a bad product? Maybe GREED! I truly feel bad for the thousands of consumers who were duped into buying this product thinking it’s a great deal! Or any other product that this company pushes…..
How can an item that received a 2.7 rating from 342 reviews be a TS today? And I agree with so many of you that a great many 5 star ratings are not from customers. Sometimes the ratings go from 1 star to 5 stars with almost no 2,3, or 4 star reviews in between.
I have been increasingly disappointed in the quality of the products offered here in the 25 years I have been watching. I would rather pay more for quality items than receive so many things I have had to return.
You just never know any more.
The only scam I see on HSN and QVC is the before and after pictures for makeup and face creams. It is so obvious that the lighting and camera filters have been changed. The color of the eyes on the after pic is deeper and brighter as is the hair and even the background is dull in the before pic and bright and colorful in the after. Cream and makeup does not change the color of your eyes, hair and the wall!!
I kind of agree… I just was about to purchase an item and was told flex pay was 37.99(5 payments). The 1st payment was to be 53.94. So I put 60 in my special account to purchase. It kept getting declined. So I called the bank with HSN on the line the woman kept saying I should call back and she was trying to hang up. The bank said HSN was trying to charge me $120 something dollars instead of what she told me. The HSN lady try to deny it, but the bank said it’s true. After my bank got off the line the HSN lady came clean and said they charge you the $120 something until midnight and then the price goes down. So how come she didn’t say that from the start? Did she really have to lie to me on the phone?Plus online I tried to purchase while on the call and it gave me a different price 51.99 but still wouldn’t go through and she came clean again and explained HSN really charge you $120 something instead. I knew something was wrong when the HSN lady was trying to leave the call when I added my bank to the line. How am I supposed to trust a company who lies to its customers and only come clean when they have to… Smh
I wouldn’t consider it a scam..Maybe somewhat misleading but as long as HSN will refund and assist with the issue it isn’t a scam.
? dear fairemaiden, you sleep just like the beautiful fairemaiden that you are. it sounds positively devine.
?, in the presentation it was pointed out that the featherbed has a mattress pad on top, and that it was supposed to prevent the quills from popping through. It looks pretty thick. Did they come through that, or did you have it upside down?
HSN is not a scam :smileyfrustrated:
? great post. i too have wondered about “poofing posts” but here’s a funny one. one time the title of my review was “meh” it wouldn’t post because it said i used an inappropriate word. i thought that was so funny, but i didn’t repost becase it wasn’t worth the effort. (lazy day)
another time i wrote the designer “is hit or miss” and i was flagged for using a swear word. i felt so embarrassed i didn’t repost. it was the last letter of “is” and the word “hit” that the computer flagged. so the lesson is that the computer might be reading everything.
but sometimes, there are horrible reviews on an item, they are repackaged and put under another number, and then they have no reviews for what we’re looking at and thinking about buying.
also,i have found if we wait too long to review something it also says we didn’t purchase it, again different item number. i finally decided to write a bad review on the face twitcher from ssc that doesn’t work, at least for me..and it wouldn’t let me.
i have had to do some detective work on old products and old reviews!!!
thanks to all of you for these great posts and great responses.
so ? thanks for the post, you got us all talking, and that’s good! :catvery-happy:
I understand your frustration and many have responded with excellent advice. My thoughts:
* I often wonder how something that is “almost sold out” can only have 1 review. For whatever reason that just seems extremely unlikely and a flag goes up. There are many things I would purchase but that review makes me go “hmmm”.
*I don’t like not being able to review something OR having my review removed if I’ve returned the item. I don’t return unless the item is damaged, causes an allergic reaction or does not perform as advertised. Those are reasons that people have a right to know about and yet, often my review goes “poof or I can’t leave a review at all. I do my best to include what I would like to know about an item so I put the time and effort into them.
* I also don’t understand why a company (it’s not just HSN) continues to carry a product that has a MAJORITY of negative reviews. When 9 out 10; 49 out of 50, 999 out of 1000 ALL say the same thing and it’s NEGATIVE about a product…. why continue to sell it? I just shake my head because to ME it comes off (as others have stated) purely about greed on the part of the vendor.
* Last, I would not judge the company (HSN) due to this one experience. If you’re to shopping with them, you may not realize that overall, they have a very good return policy, mark down policy, shipping is fast and well, they rank #1 for me over the other shipping channels due to there excellent customer service. They also have policies and you have to follow them/be aware of them, just like anywhere else.
I sincerely hope everything works out for you and you find the topper of your dreams. Also, welcome to the Community. : )
? seriously, the community is wonderful and we all want to help. we all want value for our money, and none of us want to waste money and time on shipping back a bad product.
it is helpful to know if there were/are no reviews when purchasing a product that turns out to be terrible. it’s really frustrating. it has happened to me. there was no way to get information, so you really do have a valid point. nothing was posted as a review as ? pointed out. ()
maybe we can all address this with hsn. ? () was just trying to understand the problem, as we all are. and as you can see by the quick and thoughtful responses (?) these are really wonderful women.
it’s important to give as much info as you can when posting so we can all learn and help each other. with that said, let me say, “welcome new friend” please give hsn a chance to make this right, be part of the community. you have honesty and passion, please be part of our community. your input is valuable.
also, as you can see we all strive to be kind to one another. nik
You cannot post a review until 4 days after the product was delivered to give you time to assess the purchase and not go on initial reaction. Once you return the item, you cannot post a review at all. I don’t agree with this policy as the few times I return something I do it quickly to have my money refunded as soon as possible, but wish I could post a review. I have been buying from HSN for at least 15 years and have kept way more items than I have returned. Do not judge the whole site by one bad vendor or experience.
what a mess. oh, sigh.. xoxo
? excellent post fairemaiden. i hadn’t looked up the item number before i wrote the post to respond to ?, but those are terrible reviews!!!!! really, i don’t think that i have seen such awful stats on something that is still being sold. the interesting thing is how happy the 5 star reviewers are. we really do need to be careful and i love the term “caveat emptor.” it’s true. at least we have that good return policy. :catvery-happy:
i do wish, though, that hsn would be more vigilant regarding reviews. sometimes there is nothing in a review about size and fit. it would be very helpful to know before i take a chance and purchase. i really do read the reviews and watch the presentations etc. and sometimes i get an awful product. that’s when i have that…”what was i thinking?” moment.
maybe there is something to the idea of “gross sales” without the number being affected by returns. i have wondered about this. there must be a “retail” term for it.
anyway, thanks for the great post here and always. ps i can smell the ribs and potato salad from here. :catvery-happy:
I don’t understand. Here are the stats for this featherbed topper—>
As such, I have to ask—> ‘WHY did you buy this topper in the first place?’ Reviews are there specifically to assist us in exercising our ‘Caveat Emptor’ (‘Buyer Beware’) sensibilities. While HSN is responsible for hawking some ‘junk’ on their site, it is, in the end, we who have to do the research, the ‘due diligence’, before we spend our hard-earned money on anything.
I can also attest that I’ve never had a problem returning any HSN product I was unhappy with, (within their 30-day Return Policy of course).
As for leaving a Review, you can only post a maximum of 500-characters, (which includes all blank spaces and punctuation). That may be a reason. Also, you can’t post about how much money paid, use provacative language, etc. As well, if your Account isn’t linked to this purchase, you can’t leave a Review. If Customer Service can get things straightened out concerning your Account and this purchase, you will be able to leave a Review.
To help you in your search for a Topper, I bought a fantastic one from JCP just a couple of months ago… got a great deal when it went on-sale and, along with a 30%-discount coupon, saved a ton of money—> ‘Beautyrest Comforpedic 5-1/2″ Supreme Gel Memory Foam and Fiber Topper’.
I had one of these before, (same Brand)… a 3″ one, (no mattress pad came with it tho), that lasted 4-years, so, felt very confident buying this new one. The extra thickness, (4″), and the mattress pad, (1-1/2″), that came with it, really are like sleeping on a cloud.
charpugh – I can certainly sympathize with you for getting this topper home and having it be nothing like they made it out to be on TV. I also get very upset when I purchase something from HSN after it’s been hyped up on TV and you really have to wonder if you got the same product they were using while on air.
I do however think you have taken this bad experience a little too far. Not ALL products on HSN are junk and not all things on HSN get hyped up on air to be something they aren’t.
I agree with you that there is way to much “Hype-ing” on too many products while they are being aired. Say what the product will do and don’t give false commentary about what it doesn’t do.
I’ve been “duped” many times and for as much as I absolutely hate it, I can return anything to HSN in 30 days so it isn’t that you are stuck with something you don’t like – but it is a major inconvenience to take it to the Post Office.
As far as trying to leave a review for the product you should and you should be able to. If you can’t you really need to contact Customer Service directly as to why it isn’t allowing you to leave a review. I would love to know after you get all this resolved what the problem was with why you couldn’t leave a review.
Good Luck to you – I’m sorry for you getting “duped” into this purchase but HSN is pretty good about helping anyone get a product returned and getting your purchase price refunded. You should even be able to contact CS about getting free return shipping if this topper clearly is different than what they said while it was being aired. As far as the hassle to return it, I feel your pain.
