Dash Greek Yogurt maker
To anyone who has the Dash Greek Yogurt maker:
How do you like it? Did you find it easy to use? Would you buy it again? Have you found this to be cost effective?
I am seriously thinking of getting this, because I buy the plain Greek yogurt every grocery trip.
I do not like to have preservatives, extra flavorings or sweeteners in my yogurt or any food. And by making it myself I would know exactly what is in my food.
Pipman, I know you posted a long while back about it. Do you still use it and love it?
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance for your help.
I don’t have the Dash but I own an Easiyo and I think it might be similar. I make either plain or vanilla every week.
It wasn’t cost effective when I would buy the powder base packets but it definitely is now. I just keep 2-3 Tbsp of live culture from each batch to use for the next. You also don’t need a yogurt maker. It can be made easily with just a roaster or something of that nature. For Greek you just need to pour off the whey and you can also add powdered milk to thinken it to your desired consistancy.
I have had the Dash yogurt maker for about 9 mos now and I love it. The fresh yogurt is soooo much better than store bought, and without all the preservatives and other stuff they put in it. I use plain milk, not lowfat or anything fancy. You have to heat the milk on the stove, then let it cool to temp before adding in the yogurt culture, then pour it into the container for the yogurt maker. I set mine for about 11-12 hrs, which is longer than it says, but I found that to be the time I like to make it nice and thick. I usually do it at night before going to bed, then it is ready to cool in the fridge in the morning. Sometimes I strain it and sometimes I don’t, just pour off the whey that has collected to the top. I use the whey to marinate chicken, add to biscuits, rice, etc, and it makes them very good and moist. I add fresh berries, agave, vanilla paste, honey, or whatever else I feel like to the fresh yogurt. My husband adds his hot sauce to his and uses it like a sour cream, which he loves to do.
Personally I think you would enjoy having it just for the delicious yogurt you get from making your own. Enjoy!
Thank you very much. :womanhappy:
