Bleeding color in new top
Anyone know a way to set color dye in a rayon top? I remember we used to use a couple tablespoons of salt on cotton cloth to set the color. Any ideas? I got a new pretty pink top but it really bleeds color in soaking and washing, and I don’t want it to rub off on my other clothes.
These are all great tips!
I ended up soaking my pink top in 1/2 white vinegar per advice of ? with 2 teaspoons salt and shallow level of water. I added the top and added just enough water to thoroughly soak. I let it sit for an hour and then rinsed.
Next I added the top to like pink colors and placed in my front loading wash with SHOUT color catcher dye trapping sheet. I am sold on SHOUT ?!! The sheet did absorb pink color dye, despite my treatment. Now I am testing all my new clothes to mach sure they don’t bleed. No tear wash day!
Note for front loading machines they recommend to place sheet in a delicates or mesh bag and place at the back of the drum before adding to the wash load. This prevents the sheet from entering the water pump.
Cold wash on delicate no dryer please, I also have Joys hangers that works well for delicate items.
What I do is on the first wash, I put the new garment in the washer with 1-2 cups of white vinegar. Use the lowest water level you can for the size of the garment and cold water.
This sets the dye and prevents fading. Do not use any soap on the first wash.
Try using Shout sheets in the washer the first few times. They work really well and seem to stop future bleeding.
