Question about the gazelle or Brenda Fit Strider
Hi, I’m 5"2 in height. I’m not sure which of these 3 fitness machines would be better for my height: Tony Little’s Gazelle, Brenda dyGraf Fit Rider, or DyGraf’s Slim strider? I know walking outside is great, but unfortunately it is very humid and hot where I live and I can not handle the heat due to a illness. Part of the reason I’m looking to fitness equipment to help get back into shape. Thank you for your time.
My vote is for the Tony Little Gazelle machine. I’ve had mine for umpteen years, and LOVE IT! I don’t know what the difference is between the new models, but, I can say that this machine works everything. You’ll work out your arms, chest, stomach, tush, thighs, calves… all while saving your feet and knees from the impact of treadmills or regular walking/running/jogging.
Tony Littles Gazelle Freestyle Pro $160 (397-738)
Tony Littles Gazelle Power Plus $250 (411-395)
Brenda Dygraf Slimstrider-360 $175 (393-452) This looks very much like a knock-off of the Gazelle, but far more flimsy… no side-wall crossbar/structure. It looks like it could topple over! And, it’s more expensive that Tony’s Freestyle Pro!
Brenda Dygraf Fitrider $170 (381-042) Don’t like this either. Look at the crossbar in the back. It’s barely the width of the seat! Again, it looks like it could topple over!
I too would vote for Tony Little Gazelle!!! I got mine when he was first on HSN! It’s still in great condition. Such an easy piece of exercise equipment and you get great results! very stable, no wobbling and it’s quiet! I use mine while watching my favorite show in the morning or listen to my tunes on my iPod Touch!
My vote goes to the Gazelle, too.
I am about 5"5 but my 10-year old son uses it too, and he is only 4"7. It’s very easy to use so it doesn’t feel like a chore. I’ve not tried the other machines you mentioned, but I have owned a treadmill. I enjoyed the treadmill and lost a lot of weight on it, but it ALWAYS felt like a chore.
I love my Gazelle, I’ve had it 8 or 9 years. I can’t comment on the others since I’ve never used or tried them.
I’m slightly shorter than you I have had my Gazelle since forever. It’s the best piece of equiptment I have owned it’s easy on my arthritic knees. Best purchase I ever made from HSN :smileyhappy:.
I got my gazelle before Tony was ever on HSN. I got it from an infomercial. I was already using Tony Little video workouts and knew that I liked him as a motivator. The workouts I got with this were on VHS. I have since replaced them with DVD’s. This machine is excellent. With my recent hip replacement this machine has proven to be a life saver. There are muscles that I had not used correctly for a LONG time and this machine is helping me move into recovery at a safe pace. I and my husband love it. It is my pick!
Thank you for all your replies, it has made my choice much easier.
If you have hip problems, lower back issues (arthritis, etc) – Brenda’s SlimStrider 360 is outstanding. I have both the Gazelle and the SlimStrider and they are both worth their money. The SS 360 does help the hips’ rotation much more. I have arthritis in the S1 vertebrae (in the lower back – the S1 is the first one above the pelvis and is the one that goes first for the majority of people of a certain age!) and being able to have motion in the hips has been huge to help with pain levels.
And it does what the Gazelle does too, and more. Either would be a good investment!
I have RA and have torn the IT band – outside of the hip 3 times on one. It has dogged me the pain. I have had alot of physical therapy, chiropractic and consult with ortho surgeon about possible surgery. I have the Gazelle and it is a great machine – but does not exercise the hip joint. What I liked about Brenda’s Slim Strider is that I could not stand on one leg to do the PT exercises and certainly could not stand on the sore hip.
I did a little bit as a time, setting a small goal for myself. Little by little I felt improvement and the strength returning to the hip. The SlimStrider may look flimsey but it is not. I am 5’5" about 135-140# my husband is about 5’10" 170# and works well for both of us.
I have my Gazelle up stairs and this machine downstairs. I think you will be happy with either machine – they are both excellent machines. Like I said – I wanted to rehab my him because I could only take a few steps and it would catch – now that is a thing of the past thanks to the SlimStrider.
I use BD’s SlimStrider, along w her Air Climber….and both are great.
The Slimstrider is sturdy, quiet and givesc your hips full rotations.
Her Air Climber has adjustable tension and arm cords for upper bod. It’sa lightweight, sturdy piece of equipment which I’ve had for years.
The ability on the SS to extend your legs out to the sides, or…to swing them together for an abdominal workout is great.
I have had many types of workout machines and the 2 left standing are the SlimStrider and Air Climber! The AC is on 5-flex as of this post! Good luck
