Warning! Travelsmith Anti-Theft Bag NOT Anti-Theft At All!!!
I bought the TS Travelsmith RFID Crossbody bag with anti-theft pacsafe features item number 467-832 because I am planning a trip to Bogota, Colombia, one of the most dangerous places for tourist robberies in the world. I am traveling with locals, who laughed when I showed them all the anti theft features on the bag. In a matter of less than 6 seconds, one of them took a ball point pen and punched it through the zipper on the top of the bag and quickly ran it the length of the zipper and exposed the insides without bothering to even try to use the zipper part. Theives do not care if they ruin the bag, but the bag was not ruined. I was able to unleash the zipper from the clip and rezip it and it looks now like it has never been opened. I was thrilled with the look and features of the bag until that happened. Real thieves know how to get into your bag without you even knowing. They can distract you and steal everything in your purse, and you don’t know it until you actually look down and see it. They suggested that I not carry a bag at all, and put things into inside pocket of a jacket instead.
Needless to say, I will be returning the bag and will not repurchase until they correct this error. Maybe a flap over the zipper would be a good idea.
I just looked at the item and it’s a crossbody so I think that if you wear the bag in front, you might be safer. I’ve never travelled without a crossbody and have never had an issue. That still doesn’t mean something couldn’t happen, but you are aware of where the bag is at all times.
thank you for that detailed report. i was looking at getting this for someone who had her wallet stolen in a museum….
That was bold and rude of that person to do that to your purse. Ok, he made his point, but he could have just told you instead of demonstrating. What if he would have broken the zipper, and he may have weakened it even though you got it to re-zip.
Like you said, professional thieves are going to steal your purse if they want it bad enough. So it doesn’t matter how many pacsafe features the purse has; however, those purses were probably created for normal everyday traveling to normal parts of the world. If you’re wearing that purse at the airport or walking downtown with a group of people, chances are slim that someone is going to yank it off your person.
The purse had great reviews.
I think you are pretty brave to be traveling through such a dangerous place! Even with locals by your side.
Probably no bag can fully protect against professional crooks.
Thanks for posting this info. I had seriously considered purchasing this bag.
Texie, how horrible but good thing you found out before possibly being robbed. Thank you for letting us know about your experience with the bag. I certainly won’t be purchasing one. Wishing you safe travels!
