I purchased two Shariff crossbodys. Item 420-238 and the deal itself is a good one. Leather bag with studs. Leather is pretty decent too, BUT.. These handbags smell. I feel badly about saying that as I really like Sharif and his product line. BUT this is too much. My eyes were burning when the bag was near me. Putrid smell. Bag is ok. Although the magnetic snap is not strong enough when my wallet is place in it. So of course I will be returning for both reasons. What is that smell from? Why would anyone sell this? The interior of the bag says it was designed in New York by Sharif. So what happens? Does the design get faxed to China and the bags are made there and shipped to USA? I am so veery disapointed about this crossbody/clutch. Does that small ever go away? If it did, I might use velcro to keep the bag from droopin when closed. Maybe Nutra Air spray?
Hi Ebony46, I have not experienced this, however, I did buy a purse once on e_b that arrived smoke filled. It was my last purchase there, years ago already.
I was able to air it out outside for several days and used febreze often to get it back to new.
Then I donated it to an auction for a school event. By that time, it looked and smelled perfect.
I bought a really nice bag at a thrift store that reeked of smoke. There is a product called Zero Odor I usa because one of my cats doesn’t always make it to the litterbox.Spray a couple cotton balls well with the Zero odor stuff them in the bag and hang the bag outside if you can open to really air out.Zero Odor has a slight bleach smell that vanishes pretty quickly and takes the stink with it.I love my thrift store bag.
I have so far not noticed any strong smells from my Sharif bags but have had some other leather bags with strong smells. Since I have lots of allergies I am really sensitive to smells. I got a really nice leather bag from Furla once but the smell was really strong. What I did was to leave it in the garage to air out for a couple of days and stuck some dryer sheets inside of it and that really helped the smell. You might try this or either hang the bag outside for awhile and see if the smell goes away.
I returned mine because the magnet would not keep the flap closed if it’s used as a crossbody. Now why would anyone attach a strap to the flap vs. the body of the bag???? I didn’t find the smell offensive. I would have ordered one in each color had the bag stayed closed.
I noticed a strong odor on a large Sharif wallet clutch I received last fall. The odor quickly disappeared within a day or two of use. I think it comes from the dyes then the bags being sealed in a plastic bag.
