New York City—What are people wearing?
I just booked a last minute trip to see my daughter in NYC (she is in college). I don’t know what to pack! She says it’s warm, like 70’s, so are women still wearing their summer clothes are are they wearing lightweight fall stuff? This may seem like a silly question, but I’ve made an investment in my wardrobe and I want to bring the right stuff. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!!!!
Layer light weight black items.
You really do not want to look like an outsider. I had plenty of Jeans, jackets, sweat shirts, cross body bag with RIFD is a must a nice dress or the evening and the women love their earrings, caps, neutral colors please.. The tone of speach and look can tell a real New Yorker that you are a vistor.
Multi layer has always been New York style and I do not think it will go anytime soon.
?, how was your NY visit with daughter? Did the weather agree with the items you packed?
I hope you had fun!
Do not bring high end jewelry with you unless you will be attending a black-tie or formal function. Airports check your baggage and things have been known to go missing.
I imagine you will be travelling around the city on public transportation or uber cars?
Pastels are still fine if you want to wear them. A nice sweater or two may be needed for indoors (some places are still to cool with air conditioning blasting) and the evenings can be a little chilly sometimes.
Comfortable shoes for walking (if you intend to do a little sight seeing). Cross body bag if you own one.
Don’t forget to take something black for evening wear 😉
Mary… Velvet gave a great answer; I whole-heartedly agree! I would only add a couple more things. Wear Jewelry; Scarves also dress-up an outfit; and, while 70-degrees is lovely weather, there will be a chill at night, so, take some kind of Outerwear… a snazzy Duster Sweater perhaps?
Having lived and worked in the city for quite a few years lightweight clothes this time of the year are appropriate. The weather is cold for so long you push out wearing heavier fabrics as long as possible. Jewel tones instead of pastels. As I’m sure you are aware people dress up more than most cities.
