Dressing summer in other seasons
I’m from Texas and am always amazed at the sweaters and long sleeves shown in May and September. We are still in our summer clothes. This is a question for people who live in warm climates. If it is still warm in October or even November, do you wear your flip flops and capris? Have you ever worn sandals or flip flops when you are wearing a sweater? I listened to a guest speaker who couldn’t believe people who wore sandals with jackets or sweaters. Of course she was from up north and had never heard of such a thing. I have a lot of trouble with closed in shoes and sometimes open toes are my only option.
It gets cold where I live. There is a need for all kinds of clothing (at least three seasons). Sometimes, I can get away with lighter winter wear until the end of May. By June 1st, my Summer stuff must come out of storage and prepped to be worn.
I have all kinds of coats, jackets and wear them accordingly. When it’s 20 degrees or below where I live, I break out a shearling or down coat that goes down past my ankles. I can wear wool coats when the weather is not nearly as cold. Leather jackets and trenches in between seasons.
Boots for cold and inclement weather, as well as boots and booties for fashion.
I am in south Texas and I just wear what the weather dictates. I grew up in Germany, so was always used to seasons. Now that I live in Texas, it feels like 2 seasons, or at most 3. I own like one so called winter jacket. The rest of the cooler time I just layer a little light jacket on. Unless we have a really cold spell, its pretty mild here in winter. Its why I just went nuts in the clearance sales as a lot of the items I bought I can wear pretty much year round.
I don’t wear flip flops, but I wear Birkenstock pretty sandals. And other comfy brand sandals. In winter, little we have here, or bad weather, I just wear closed birkenstock shoes or other closed shoes.
Its still like summer now so I don’t have to worry any time soon about colder weather clothes. A nice pair of jeans, a nice t-shirt or blouse and a duster is all I need in fall. Or a maxi skirt.
I don’t really care what the season fashions is. It doesn’t apply to my climate. I like looking at all the sweater knits and cable knits, but I’d so rarely wear it, I don’t get any of it.
Considering I grew up in the cold snowy area of Bavaria, I can’t say I miss the winter much. Mostly I don’t miss driving in winter.
I do miss not having such long hot humid summers. Feels like anything I wear bothers me.
I’m a native Texan–born, raised and live in South Texas. I never pack away my summer clothes. I have a few sweaters that get used a couple times a year at most. I do like the winter styles but not practical for our climate. I do wear my boots all year long because I wear tiered gypsy skirts.
Pamlou I do hv sandals in fall colors that i tend to wear more in the fall- orange and olive…. or brown leather flip flops
My mother ALWAYS wore open toed sandals or slippers in the winter time (she NEVER went barefoot, not even indoors). She didn’t care if there was a foot of snow on the ground, she would be out in her open toed shoes on if she had to go anywhere.
Heck yes Pamlou! I loathe my feet being too hot or cold. I usually have an extra pair of flip flops and ugs in my trunk…..:catwink:
I am uber jealous of y’all who live down south. I wanna go back! Ohio blows. I plan to move back to Texas in a few yrs.
I live in the Southwest where there are very few really cold days. However, once October arrives I put away the capris and the sandals and opt for 3/4 length sleeves, light turtlenecks, blazers, scarves, etc. I wear boots, flats or heels with my regular length pants. I seldom need a coat.
I dress for the weather . it is in the 90’s almost everyday.. Of course it is STILL summer the first day of fall is September 22.
If it is still real hot after fall begins I will still be in sandals and summer clothes. HOT is HOT no mattter what the calendar says .
We have all four season , hot summers cold winters .milder weather in fall and spring
I personally dress for the season. I live up North, however it can be in the dead of Winter & I will see guys out in shorts & flip flops!!! Not me! I am looking forward to it getting cool but it is still in the 90’s and very humid here. I am wanting to wear my denim shirts, boots, capes & all my other Fall clothing. Fall is my favorite time of the year! I love it when the leaves change and the smell of crispness is in the air!!!!
Here in hot and humid Florida I live in flip flops and sandals almost year round. The same goes for shorts/capris. But when I go somewhere nice I wear a closed shoe and the appropriate attire. The couple of months out of the year that are cooler I do wear slacks and jeans and a light sweater or jacket. As SLMangle said, I too dress for the weather and not the season.
I just posted on another forum that where I am people wear flip flops and Bernuda shorts with a jacket. We don’t have to wear a heavy coat very often. Of course, these people aren’t worried about dressing appropriately. Alot of the clothes I have span the seasons, especially jeans and trousers. I put away the sandals when it stays in the 70s. I like three quarter sleeves all year. I’ll wear short sleeves all year with a light sweater or jacket in the winter or fall. I don’t wear sleeveless anytime unless it’s layered. HSN was selling booties (they called them shooties) with open toes and cut outs on the sides just a couple weeks ago. How is that so different from sandles? You still have a bare foot showing in the winter. Of course, I’d wear the open toed shooties with socks, probably with cats on them. Being old gives you some liberty to be outrageous and not care what people think or go for shock value on purpose. :womanvery-happy:
I always dress with the weather, not the season.
